Glennis Chesney, 78, of Farmenille, Louisiana passed away Feb. 12, 1996.

She was born Jan. 22, 1919 in Batson, Texas to Arthur Glen and Catherine Garvin Jones. She was a former resident of Bay City. She is survived by her husband, Joseph W. Chesney of Farmenille, Louisiana; by two step-daughters, Nancy E. Roberts of Greenville, Mississippi and Betty Jo Rossero of California; by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Roe of Oyster Creek, Texas and Harry Roe of Port Neches, Texas; by one sister, Margie Barlow of Bay City; by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Debbie Jones and Raymond and Bena Jones all of Bay City; by two granddaughters, Vicki Roe and Tambra Anderson, by three great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carrie Mae Roe, a sister, Loretta Arnold, and by two brothers, James Otis Jones and Paul Sherwood Jones. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p. m. Friday, Feb. 16, 1996 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with Rev. D. O. Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Evelyn Dienst

Evelyn Dienst, 97, went home on November 8, 2006.

She was born to John Francis Richardson and Frances Elizabeth Olivia Davidson on October 5, 1909, in Limestone County near Grosbeck, Texas.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Vance Porter Dienst of Bay City; and two sons, James Leon Lewis and Franklin D. Lewis.

Mrs. Dienst is survived by: two daughters, Irene Smith of Bay City, Texas, and Frances Brinkley of Richmond, Texas; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Evelyn and Vance were married on August 14, 1958.

During their 22 years of marriage, they owned restaurants in Bay City, Port Lavaca, Falfurrias, El Campo, Victoria and last Vance’s Restaurant in Rosenberg.

Graveside services were held at 2 p. m. Friday, November 10, 2006, at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Texas.

She was loved and will be greatly missed by all who know her.

Our special thanks to all of the nurses’ aides at S. P. J. S. T. Rest Home No. 2 in Needville and Odyssey Hospice who took care of her with such great love.

Vance Dienst

Vance Dienst, 63, died suddenly September 17 in Rosenberg.

His twin brother, Theodore, preceded him in death three years.

He and his wife, Evelyn, were owners and operators of Vance’s Café in Rosenberg.

Dienst was born and raised in Bay City where he spent most of his younger life prior to World War II. He entered the armed services in 1940 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor at the time of the infamous attack.

Services were conducted by Rev. Frank Seaman of Bay City at the Garmany Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

Graveside services were held in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Monday afternoon, September 20.

Besides his wife, Evelyn, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Carey Smith of Bay City.

Mrs. W. U. Follis, 63, of 811 Calhoun, died at 2:45 a. m. Friday at her residence. Mrs. Follis had been a resident of Houston for five years.

Surviving are two daughters, Miss Catherine Follis of San Antonio and Miss Durrit Follis of Houston; four sons, W. G., D. C., and John Follis of Houston, and W. Shelby Follis of Coriz, Colo., a sister, Mrs. Dora Woods; two brothers, Webb and Wade Perry of Scottsville, Ky.; there are nine grandchildren.

Services were held in the Fogle-West chapel at 11 a. m. Saturday with Rev. Oscar Smith officiating. The body was sent overland to Bay City, where services were held at 2:30 p. m. Saturday at the cemetery. Active pallbearers were Oliver Ferguson, M. P. MacLeod, G. T. Rees, J. A. Watson, L. J. Bordelon, R. W. Edminson. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. F. Harman Kilgore, Dr. W. S. McDaniel, Dr. O. H. Jones, Reed Evans, Leon E. Meyer and J. A. Honea. Fogle-West Company directed.—Houston Post.

Funeral services for Estella Garza, 55, of Bay City are scheduled for 10 a. m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

A rosary is scheduled for 7 p. m. today in the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel in Bay City.

Ms. Garza was born April 17, 1938 at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Gloria Zamora and Emma Gonzales, both of Bay City, and Lorraine Schroeder of North Agusta, S. C.; three sons, Ray Morales of Bay City, Daniel Garza of Collenwood, Tenn. and Gilbert Garza of Van Vleck; a brother, Gilbert Morales of San Antonio; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Leon Garza, Chris Garza, Rudy Garza, Emilio Longoria, Javier Martinez and Bruce Schroeder.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

Funeral services for Rudy Garza, 66, of Markham, will be 1:00 PM Thursday, December 30, 1999, at the Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. Janie Robles officiating. Prayer services will be 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 29, 1999, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

 

Mr. Garza died Monday, December 27, 1999, in Bay City. He was born August 26, 1933, in Mission, Texas to the late Leonidez and Sophia Mercado Garza. Rudy was a member of the Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Church in Van Vleck and a resident of Markham for the past 27 years.

 

Survivors include: daughters, Irma Garcia, Diana Gonzales, Corina Ruiz and Joan Perez, all of Markham, and Irene Garza of Michigan; sons, Leon Garza of Bay City, Lionel and Steve Garza, both of Markham; sisters, Sylvia Luna of Bay City, Linda Garza and Olga Bryant, both of Ohio; brothers, Ray Garza of Tennessee, Leon Garza of Bay City, Ramiro Garza of Kilgore, Texas, and Raul Garza of Waco; 31 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Macaria Garza; son, Jesse Lopez; and three brothers, Raul, James, and Emilio Garza.

 

Pallbearers are Mark Ruiz, Tony Gonzales, Leon Garza, Jr., Willie Quiroga, Raymond Garcia, and Sergio Zepeda. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Marcaria Garza

Funeral services for Macaria Garza, 58, of Markham will be at 1:30 today at the Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Church in Van Vleck, with Rev. Janie Robles officiating.

Interment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. A prayer service was held at 7 p. m. Monday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Sister Janie Robles officiating.

Mrs. Garza died at her residence on Sunday, March 29. She was born Feb. 29, 1940 in Bay City to the late Felipe and Thomasa Zamora Lopez. She was a member of the Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Church in Van Vleck, and a resident of Markham for the past 27 years.

She is survived by her husband, Rudy Garza of Markham; daughters, Irma Garcia, Diana Gonzales, Corina Ruiz and Joan Perez all of Markham; sons, Leon Garza of Bay City, Lionel and Steve Garza, both of Markham; sisters, Janie Robles, Elena Huerta, Andrea Trevino, Josie Garcia and Angolina Quiroga, all of Van Vleck, Maria and Felipa Aguilar and Lupe DeLeon, all of Bay City; brothers, Felipe Lopez of Bay City, and Ray Lopez of Pearland; 23 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Lopez, and a brother, Juan Lopez.

Pallbearers are Joseph Huerta, Martin Huerta, Eddie Quiroga, Paul Quiroga, Bobby Trevino and Jesse Saldana. Honorary pallbearers are Willie Quiroga and Max Hernandez.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
