Poole, Sr. was a prominent banker, cattleman and community leader of Matagorda and Brazoria counties.

Family was of the utmost importance to Barry.

Barry spent much of the time in his younger years hunting and fishing on the Poole Ranch with his beloved Uncle Donald and Aunt Muggie Poole. He was a successful cattleman, rice, soybean, and milo farmer in Matagorda county for 27 years. Barry was also a professional chef/restaurateur and owner with Judy of four restaurants in his hometown of Bay City. He also co-authored several highly acclaimed cookbooks with Judy.
