Emily Ann Davis, 88, of Bay City, TX, went to be with her Lord on Monday, October 20, 2014.

She was born on August 8, 1926, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, to the late Albert and Edna Rickman Herman. Emily, along with her husband, J. R. Davis, owned and operated The Pizza Place in Bay City. She was devoted to her family, and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Emily is survived by her three daughters, Marsha Ann Buller and husband Tommy of Port Lavaca, TX, Jan Kocurek and husband Alvin of Bay City, TX, and Melanie Kainer and husband Bennie of Portland, TX; grandchildren, Shannon Buller, Blake Buller, Keri (Mike) Hill, Clint (Suzanne) Kocurek, Brian Nance, Kelly (Bryan) Bjork, Kevin Kainer, Kody Kainer, Kade Kainer, and Kaleb Kainer; great-grandchildren, Hayden Buller, Wyatt Buller, Rylan Buller, Audrey Hill, Corbin Hill, Sadie Hill, Emerson Kocurek, Sera Nance, Joshua Rodriguez, Brady Bjork, Jazlyn Kainer, and Kaliyah Kainer; great-great-grandchild, Kaiden Nance; sister, Gloria Schubert; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: J. R. Davis; and sister, Bette Hoskinson.

The family received visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2014 at the funeral home.

The funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 25, 2014, at St. Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jared Stillions officiating.

Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Shannon Buller, Blake Buller, Clint Kocurek, Brian Nance, Kevin Kainer, Kody Kainer, Kade Kainer and Kaleb Kainer.

Honorary pallbearer was Joshua Rodriguez.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the St. Peter Lutheran Church.

J. R. Davis

Funeral services for J. R. Davis, 70, of Bay City were scheduled for 2 p. m. today at St. Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charles Sheppard officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Davis was born Nov. 16, 1915, in Ballinger, Texas, to William S. and Maudie Walker Davis and died Dec. 1, 1985, at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was employed by Long Theatres, Inc., for 30 years and was the owner of The Pizza Place.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Davis of Bay City; three daughters, Marsha Ann Davis Buller of Laredo, Jan Davis Kocurek and Melanie Davis Nance of Bay City; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Peter Blum, Ernest Cotton, Lester Matura, Gary Steele, Jimmy Wakefield and George Yoxtheimer.

Services were under the direction of Dick R. Elkins Bay City Funeral Home.

Matthew Thomas “Tom” Dearmond Jr.

Matthew Thomas “Tom” Dearmond Jr., 42, of Alvin will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Alvin with the Rev. Richard Klein officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery, Alvin [Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City].

Mr. Dearmond was born Jan. 23, 1945, in Orange, Texas, and died May 18, 1987, at Methodist Hospital, Houston.

He operated Tom Dearmond State Farm Insurance Co. He was a member of Alvin Bible Church and Alvin-Manvel Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Dearmond of Alvin; a son, Matthew Dearmond III of Alvin; two daughters, Angela Lorraine and Elizabeth Joy Dearmond, both of Alvin; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Dearmond Sr. of Bay City; his grandmother, Mollie Theo Winder of Bay City; a sister, Donna Dearmond Reis of Bay City; a half-sister, Aladenia Thomason of Arizona; two brothers, Robert David Dearmond of Wharton and Stephen Charles Dearmond of Austin; and a dear friend who was like a brother, Norman McCord of Alvin.

Pallbearers include Johnny Janese, Jim Thompson, Ken Wick, Mike King, Glen Moreau, Larry Sinclair, Ed Thompson, Norwood Richardson and Mike Peters.

Honorary pallbearer is Bill Gardin.

In lieu of the usual contributions, the family requests that contributions be made to the Alvin Bible Church Building Fund, 308 Cypress, Alvin, Texas, 77511.

Zelma "Sissy" Loraine Winder Dearmond

Zelma "Sissy" Loraine Winder Dearmond, 80, of Bay City, died February 27, 2001 at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. She was born August 28, 1920 in Austin, Travis County, Texas to the late Henry Figan and Mollie Theo Skeeters Winder. Mrs. Dearmond was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bay City and an active member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class; a retired businesswoman, and a resident of Bay City since 1952. Zelma gave much of her time and support to the Bay City Public Library and the Bay City Nature Club. She gave most of her time and herself to her family, and especially her many loving grandchildren.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Linda Dearmond of Markham, and Stephen and Tracie Dearmond of Richmond, Texas; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Donna and Steven Reis of Bay City, and Dena Dearmond of Prescott, Ariz; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Jack Rodgers of San Bernadino, California; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John D. "Buddy" and Lucille Winder of Port Lavaca, Buster Wilson and Ida Winder of Red Oak, Texas, and George and Jeanette Winder of Somerville, Texas; seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Matthew Thomas Dearmond, her son Matthew Thomas "Tom" Dearmond, Jr., sisters, Henry Jean Mills, Robbie Lee Winder and Mollie Doris Reavis and brother, Henry Winder, Jr.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Crowe officiating. Interment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Pallbearers will be members of her family and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fellowship Class of the First Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Bay City Public Library, or the First United Methodist Church Organ Fund.

Loraine Dodd

Loraine Dodd, 96, of Bay City died at her residence January 15, 2002. She was born May 5, 1905 in Victoria to the late Herbert J. and Paula Haelbig Schmidt. Mrs. Dodd was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, a resident of Bay City the past 20 years and a former longtime resident of Markham. She also was a former active member of the Art League and the Bay City Country Club Ladies Golf Association.

Survivors include: daughter, Marcella Dodd of Leesburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Mark Dodd and wife Ellen of Bay City, Carmen Gieselman and husband Troy of Dripping Springs, Texas, Lane Dodd of Bay City, Judson Swearingen of Los Angeles, Calif., Van Swearingen of Calif., Gerret Swearingen and wife Sunny of Leesburg, and Priscilla Swearingen of Louisville; numerous great grandchildren; close family friends, Dan and Jane Wendt and Harold and Margaret Ottis all of Bay City. She was preceded in death by her husband; Thomas M. Dodd; son, Thomas M. "Doye" Dodd, Jr; and sister, Gladys Mary Gordon.

A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2002, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, and the Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Harold Ottis, Dale Wendt, Paul Scheel, Gene Kubecka, Daniel Kubecka, and Richard Knapik.

Memorials may be made to the Holy Cross School Foundation or the Charity of Choice.

Thomas M. “Doye” Dodd

Rosary and funeral services were held for Thomas M. “Doye” Dodd, 49, who died Sunday in his Bay City residence.

The Rosary was said at 6 p. m. Monday, with funeral services being held at 2 p. m. today in the Cedarvale Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating, under the direction of Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Dan and Dale Wendt, Jim Latham, Van Davis, Ken Etie and Dr. Charles Shoultz.

Dodd, born Nov. 8, 1932 in San Antonio, is survived by one daughter Carmen Corrine Dodd and two sons Thomas Mark Dodd and Matthew Lane Dodd, all of Bay City; his mother, Mrs. T. M. Dodd Sr. of Markham; and a sister Mrs. Marcella Peebles of Virginia.

Thomas M. Dodd Sr.

Thomas M. Dodd Sr., 76, of Markham died Friday in the Matagorda General Hospital. Dodd was born July 15, 1904 in El Campo. He and his family moved to Markham 45 years ago, where he became an active rancher and rice farmer. He was a member of the Matagorda County Rice Co-op and the Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Loraine Schmidt Dodd, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Marcella Peebles of Bay City; one son, T. M. Dodd Jr. of Del Rio; two sisters, Mrs. Bennie Harper and Mrs. Jackie Pollock, both of Houston; and two brothers, Albert Dodd, Sugar Valley and Oscar Dodd of Taft. A rosary will be held at 7 p. m. Sunday in the Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel, with funeral services held at 10 a. m. Monday in the Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Fr. Charles Sonnier officiating. Interment will be in the Cedarvale Cemetery, under the direction of Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

William Kenneth Doty, 42, of Bay City died in Houston Thursday, February 19, 1981. He belonged to the Church of Christ. Survivors include: wife, Dorothy Doty of Bay City; sons Kenny and Scott Doty of Bay City; sisters, Dora Turneer of Brownswood, TX, Mary Ellen Kudtna of McAllen; brothers, Carol Doty of Waco, John B. Doty of Stanford, Ernest Doty of McAllen, Bennie Joe Doty of South America, Frank and Leslie Doty both of El Dorado, TX. Funeral services will be held at Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel Saturday, February 21, at 11 a. m with Sam Kitchings, minister of the Sixth Street Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers include Audie Northcutt, Art McDowell, Bob Wakefield, Dave Wakefield, Bob Broley and Billy Wright. Dorothy Nell Doty, 79, of Bay City passed away April 26, 2019. She was born October 18, 2019 in Freestone County, TX to William Henry and Bertha Hill Walts.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; husband Willie Kenneth Doty, Sr., and son Ken Doty. She is survived by her son Scott Doty of Pearland; sisters Patsy Ruth Tucker and Janell Morgan; brothers James Walts, David Henry Walts, and grandchildren Thomas Paul Doty and Khristina Elizabeth Doty.

The family will receive friends and relatives 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday, May 4, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow visitation at 2:00pm, at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Nannie Bell Duncan

Funeral services for Nannie Bell Duncan will be Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Golden Avenue Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Kenny James officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Mrs. Duncan died Feb. 23, 2000 in Wolfe, Texas. She was born April 5, 1912 in East Bernard County, Texas to John H. Roe and Fannie Elizabeth Roe.

She is survived by; sons and daughter-in-law, George and Linda Duncan of Campbell, Texas and James Duncan of Concord, Calif.; brother, Johnny Roe of Bay City; sister, Mattie Johnson of Springdale, Ark.; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, John M. Duncan, Sr. on Aug. 6, 1976; one son, John Marvin Duncan, Jr in 1999; and one brother J. D. Roe.

Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.
