William Joseph Aimone

William Joseph Aimone, 47, of Bay City passed away Sept. 24, 1996 at his residence.

He was born July 28, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to George and Lulu Jeffery Aimone. He worked as a Nuclear Reactor Operator Instructor at South Texas Nuclear Project. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, had served in the U S Navy; served as an officer in the National Guard;  was an avid softball player, and moved from Midland Michigan to Bay City in 1984.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Aimone of Bay City; by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Aimone of Bellville, Michigan; by two sons, Joshua and Logan Aimone of Bay City; and by five brothers, Michael Aimone, Jeffery Aimone, Jon Aimone, and Patrick Aimone, all of Bellville, Michigan and Scott Aimone of Aurora, Colorado.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p. m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 1996 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Nick Novak officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Pallbearers will be Greg Chitwood, Michael Aimone, Jeffery Aimone, Jon Aimone, Patrick Aimone, and Scott Aimone. Honorary pallbearers include Kevin Turner, Larry Bond, Brad Hardt, Bruce Mankey and Jimmy Page.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

George Andrew Bunk

Funeral services for George Andrew Bunk, 85, of Wadsworth will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wadsworth with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

A rosary will be said at 7 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel.

Mr. Bunk was born Jan. 19, 1901, in Wadsworth to John and Mary Herreth Bunk and died Jan. 15, 1987, at his residence.

He was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Watkins Bunk of Wadsworth; two daughters, Joyce Knapik of Houston and Paul Kimbrough of Port Lavaca; two sons, George Joe Bunk of Bay City and Murray Bunk of Wadsworth; a sister, Theresa Bunk of Bay City; two brothers, Henry Bunk of Wadsworth and Clarence Bunk of Bay City; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Darron Gann, Darrell Gann, Terence Allen, Jimmy Allen, William Townsend, Tom Corrigan and Travis Cartwright. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Bunk’s nephews.

Contributions can be made to the restoration of the St. Francisville church or the organization of your choice.

Helen Bunk

Funeral services for Helen Bunk, 76, of Wadsworth are scheduled for 1 p. m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wadsworth, with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

A rosary will be held 7:30 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel, Bay City.

Mrs. Bunk was born March 19, 1912, in Bay City to Berry and Willie Mae Smith Watkins and died May 5, 1988, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

A lifelong resident of Wadsworth, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Altar Society.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula Helen Kimbrough of Port Lavaca and Joyce Knapik of Houston; two sons, George J. Bunk of Bay City and Murray Bunk of Wadsworth; four sisters, Lillian Coleman of Taft, Texas, Willie Belle Hudgins of Jones Creek, Beatrice Ryman of Dickinson and Bernice Slaughter of Wadsworth; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Darron Gann, Darrell Gann, Terrence Allen, Jimmie Allen, William Townsend and Travis Cartwright.

Henry Resendez Charles
March 18, 1932 - March 26, 2024

Henry Resendez Charles, 92, passed away March 26, 2024, peacefully at home with his family at his side. He was born March 18, 1932, in McFadden, Texas to the late Luis Charles, Sr. and Concepcion Resendez Charles. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katy Acosta Charles, son Joe Henry (Buzzard) Charles, son-in-law Arnulfo Vargas, Jr, and Henry’s siblings, Jesse Charles, Sr., Angelina Charles Valdez, Catarina Charles Robles, Luis Charles, Jr., Rosita Charles, Herminia “Minnie” Charles Silvas, George “Juan” Charles, Daniel “Mache” Charles, Natividad “Nate” Charles.  

Henry’s life was dedicated to his faith in God, his love for his family and his dedication to our community.

Henry met the love of his life, Katy Acosta Charles, and the two married in June of 1949. They made Bay City their home where Henry began working construction for Chambliss & Kirksey.  Henry’s work ethic was impeccable and paved the way to his employment at Phillips 66 in Old Ocean, Texas. Henry worked his way up from a helper position to his certification as a first-class pipe fitter. He gained respect from co-workers because of his loyal, helpful attitude and retired from Phillips after 27 years of dedicated service.

Henry spent many days on the baseball field, where he was known for his leadership skills. He played shortstop and second base, gaining the nickname “Coach”. He played with many teams including The Falstaff Aces, Knights of Columbus and The Aztecas.

Henry’s love for baseball led to a successful career coaching in the Bay City Little League Association. He had many winning seasons coaching The Giants and after retiring from Little League, the community, and the Little League Association honored Henry by dedicating a baseball field in his name.

Henry was faithful member of Our Lady Catholic Church where he enjoyed assisting with church festivals and ushering during mass services.

Henry is survived by his daughters, Ella Charles Vargas, Rita Charles Schnur (Rudy Garza), Carolyn Charles Martinez (Tony),  Henry Ann Charles (Valarie), son Daniel Henry Charles (Laura), along with 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Henry’s kind neighbors, friends, Houston Hospice of El Campo, and longtime friend Ms. Celia.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 am Friday, April 5, 2024, with the Rosary being recited at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00, with Fr. Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Joe Gonzales, Rolando Rodriguez, Jerry Guajardo, Brett Schnur, AJ Vargas, Carrington Charles, Ashton Bollom, and Joseph Ochoa.

Kathleen “Katy” Acosta Charles

Kathleen “Katy” Acosta Charles, 68, of Bay City passed away March 4, 1997 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was born Nov. 25, 1928 to Baldomero and Estella Gomez Acosta. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Matagorda General Hospital, and a lifelong resident of Bay City. She was a Teacher’s Aide for the Bay City ISD, serving the Pierce Elementary School for the past thirty years. She married Henry R. Charles on June 2, 1949 in Bay City.

Mrs. Charles is survived by her husband, Henry R. Charles of Bay City; by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Ella Jane and Arnold Vargas and Carolyn and Tony Martinez all of Bay City, Rita Ann Schnur of Houston, and Henry Ann Charles of San Antonio; by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe Henry and Yolanda Charles of Houston and Daniel Henry Charles of Bay City; by four sisters, Esther Acosta, Mary Ann Cervantes, and Estella Silvas all of Bay City and Alicia Villarreal of Corpus Christi; by five brothers, Albert Acosta of Houston Abel Acosta of Victoria, Louis Acosta, Anthony Acosta, and John Gilbert Acosta all of Bay City; and by thirteen grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lucia De los Santos. A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Wednesday, March 5, 1997 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Thursday, March 6, 1997 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Msgr. James Brunner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers include, Arturo Charles, Salvador Ramirez, David Weeks, Guadalupe Valdez, Joe Ranguma and Ray Rangel. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

John Elmer Fanson

Funeral services for John Elmer Fanson, 79, of Bay City will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Diane Black officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Fanson was born Feb. 24, 1908, in Chicago, Ill., and died March 2, 1987, at Southwest Memorial Hospital, Houston.

He owned and operated F & H Auto Supply until his retirement. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, Masonic Lodge 864, Shriners and Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Ruth and Richard Hart of Renton, Wash.; two brothers, G. I. Fanson of Seguin and Arnold Fanson of Wadsworth; a sister, Lois Mueller of Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Carol Hart Paulsen and Christopher Hart of Bellevue, Wash.; and a great-granddaughter, Nicole Hart.

Pallbearers include Lee Schulz, Jack Nagel, Gordon Hardegree, Dr. Jess Lambujon, Milton Greenberg, W. H. Boeker, “Sonny” Wright Salter and B. F. Schulz. Honorary pallbearer will be Carey Smith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Fanson, in 1982.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Matagorda County Dialysis chapter.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Alice Fanson

Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Alice Fanson, of Bay City, 3 p. m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church. Officiating at the services will be the Reverends Frank Seaman and Diana Black.

Fanson died January 3, 1982 at her residence.

Survivors are husband, J. E. Fanson of Bay City; daughter, Peggy Ruth Hart of Renton, Washington; grandchildren, Carol Paulson and Christopher Hart of Renton, Washington; sister, Mrs. Ann Miller of Phoenix, Arizona.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church holding offices in all levels, a member of the Chautauqua Club, Study Club, Book Review Club and life member of the PTA.

Burial will follow services at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Lee Schulz, Jack Huebner, Rip Schulz, Jack Young, Percy Harrison and Bill Boeker.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Frist Presbyterian Church of Bay City.

John Bernard “Jack” Graham

Funeral services will be held for John Bernard “Jack” Graham, 71, of Bay City, 3 p. m. today (Wednesday) at the First United Methodist Church.

Officiating will be the Rev. Leroy Stanton.

Graham died March 8, 1982 at Hermann Hospital.

Survivors are wife, Pauline of Bay City; sons, John Bernard Graham Jr. of Bay City, Mark Stevens Graham of Sweetwater; brothers, James Presley “Prep” Graham and Elmer Shepard “Shep” Graham of Bay City; sister, Louise Lowery of Sweeny; brother-in-law, Judge Lowery of Sweeny; grandchildren, Bruce Graham of College Station and Lori Graham of Bay City.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and retired from Phillips Petroleum Company.

Burial will follow services at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Thelma Pauline “Polly” Graham

Thelma Pauline Graham, 82, of Bay City, died Saturday, December 2, 1995 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston.

She was born April 21, 1913 in Alvin, Texas to parents William A. and Myrtle Blythe Kidd.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. B. “Jack” Graham in 1982, and her parents and brother William F. Kidd.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors are son and daughter-in-law, Bernard and June Graham, Bay City; son, Mark Graham of Snyder; grandchildren, Bruce and Michelle Graham, Port Lavaca, Lori and Matthew McCray, Bay City; great-grandchildren, Whitney Graham of Snyder and Eric McCray of Bay City.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 5, at 3:00 P. M. from the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Toland officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Quentin Watkins, Lee Edward Baca, Leney Tyler, Lindsey Thompson, Gerald Ussery, and Arthur Milberger.

Marie Alvinia Shaw

Graveside services for Marie Alvinia Shaw, 76, of Bay City will be held 10 a. m. Thursday at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, with the Rev. W. E. Dugger Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Shaw was born Aug. 24, 1911, to Ed and Christine Gregersen Johnson and died Oct. 19, 1987, at Matagorda General Hospital.

A lifelong resident of Bay City, she was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Baxter of San Leon, Texas; two sons, Jim Shaw of Magnolia, Texas, and Robert E. Shaw of Deer Park, Texas; eight grandchildren and six great-grandparents.

Funeral Services Held Here Monday For Robert L. Shaw

Funeral services were conducted from the First Presbyterian Church here Monday afternoon for Robert L. Shaw, 45, of 3200 Ave F, Bay City.

Mr. Shaw, a Bay City resident for 12 years, passed away suddenly at his home last Saturday afternoon.

The Rev. Jack Lancaster officiated at the services. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery, with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Born in Buckeye, Mr. Shaw was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a veteran of World War II, and was a long-time employee of the Schumaker Company of Houston.

Survivors include his wife; his mother, Mrs. Iriton Shaw of Bay City; one daughter, Patricia Ann Shaw of Bay City; two sons, Robert Edwin and Jimmy Lee of Bay City; two sisters, Mrs. Forrest Laxton of Bay City and Mrs. Delma Iron of Kingsville.

Pallbearers were Gifford Ryman, T. L. Steubing, Henry Hildreth, Fred Broughton, W. C. Gosling III, and Dr. Charles Shoultz.

Irene Raney Tarkington

Funeral services for Irene Raney Tarkington of Alvin are scheduled for 1 p. m. Tuesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel in Bay City with the Rev. Don Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Tarkington was born in Clarendon, Ark., to Elmer Rose and Martha Shepard Raney and died April 9, 1994.

Formerly of Bay City, she was a resident of Alvin since 1966. She and her husband were employed in insurance and real estate and she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Alvin.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathryn Tarkington and Jack Brodie of Hot Springs, Ark. and Anita Tarkington Lee of Alvin; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, S. L. “Tark” Tarkington in 1965 and by a son-in-law, Don N. Lee in 1987
