Emmanuel Mexican Mission

Emmanuel Mission was organized in 1930 with Paul Siebenmann directing the work. There was no building in which to worship, so the first services were held in an old cotton gin on Eighth Street. Connie Anderson was the Bible teacher.

In January, 1958, property was purchased by First Baptist Church on the southwest corner of Avenue G and Twelfth Street and dedicated to the Emmanuel Mexican Mission for a new church building. The entire property included the southern half of Block 100. The building was dedicated in March, 1958. The 4544 square foot brick building and property was valued at $173, 000 in 2021.

In 1955 the mission added a kindergarten ministry to its program, with Lupe Delgado as director. She began serving on September 14, 1955, a position she held until her retirement in June, 1986. The Home Mission Board supplemented the salaries of "Miss Lupe" and the mission pastor.

On February 1, 1989, the building and property were deeded by First Baptist Church to Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Pastors serving the mission, and later Emmanuel Baptist Church included: Paul Siebenmann, 1930; E. Aloreja, 1950; Alberto Jua, 1954; Francisco Veles, 1956; Amando Virgen, 1957; Ruben Hernandez, 1961; and Candido Gonzales, 1966 - 2019.
