Graveside services were held for Carl James Ackerman, 82, of Collegeport, 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Collegeport Cemetery.

Officiating at the services was the Rev. J. R. Gwin.

Ackerman died January 15, 1983 at Wagner General Hospital in Palacios.

Survivors include wife, Emilie W. Ackerman of Collegeport; sister, Frances Feldt of Bentenville , Ark. ; 1 nephew and 1 niece.

Ackerman was a resident of the Collegeport area for 58 years.

Pallbearers included Gus Franzen, Gerald Wells Jr., Chester Corporon, Gary Corporon, Jimmy Murry and Mason Holsworth.

 EMILIE WILLIE ACKERMAN

Graveside services for Emilie Willie Ackerman, 71, of Collegeport, were held Aug. 23, at 4 p.m. at the Collegeport Cemetery with Rev. Jay Gross officiating.

Mrs. Ackerman was born Sept. 30, 1915 in Liberty , TX and died Aug. 22, 1985 at Wagner General Hospital . She was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Collegeport.

Mrs. Ackerman was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Ackerman, on Jan. 15, 1985.

Survivors include two sisters, Alvena Laslie of Blessing and Annie Wooster of Woodville , TX ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Gerald Wells, Jr., Jimmie Murry, Mason Holsworth, Gus Franzen, Gary Corporon, and Chester Corporon. Honorary pallbearers were nephews.

Elizabeth Emma Bagley

Mrs. Bagley Rites to Be On Sunday

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Emma Bagley, 69, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Baptist Church at Collegeport, with Rev. Rayford Harris and Rev. D. A. Geeo. Interment will be at Collegeport Cemetery .

Mrs. Bagley died Thursday at Palacios.

She is survived by three daughters Mrs. Sims McDonald and Mrs. Charles Chaplin, both of Bay City, Mrs. Bessie Woods of Collegeport; two sons, Joe Bagley of Collegeport, W. W. Bagley of Yorktown; three sisters, Mrs. Joe Van Hoosier of Claton, Oklahoma, Mrs. T. F. Long of Leigh, Oklahoma, Mrs. Luby Christmas of College Station; and one brother, W. H. Thomson of Palacios.

In charge of arrangements is Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Benjamin Lewis Bonnett

 Lewis Bonnett

Mr. Lewis Bonnett, age 92 years, 2 months and 11 days, died Thursday and was buried in Collegeport at 4 p.m. the same day.

The religious services were conducted by the Christian Science Society. The funeral was under the direction of Walker Furniture Company.

The Matagorda County Tribune, Friday, February 12, 1932

Funeral services for B. L. Bonnett Civil War veteran and long-time citizen of Matagorda County, were held at his home in Markham, February 12 at 2 p.m. Mrs. Williams, prominent member of the Christian Science Church of Bay City officiated at the funeral, and interment was made in the cemetery in Collegeport, Texas.

Mr. Bonnett was born in the state of Ohio , Nov. 30, 1938 . Growing to manhood in that State, he enlisted in the Union Army at the outbreak of the Civil War and remained in the service until he was discharged at the close of the conflict. He then settled in Iowa , where he spent a number of years as a successful farmer and stock raiser of that state. For a number of years he has been living in Texas .

Mr. Bonnett was thrice married. His first wife, who was married to him before the Civil War, is buried in Ohio , and his second wife is buried in Iowa . After coming to Texas , he married on November 12, 1912 , Mrs. Nannie K. Brown who now survives him. He is also survived by two grandchildren in Iowa and a niece and nephew in Ohio .

Although Mr. Bonnett was not a member of any church, he was the son of a Methodist minister and in his later years has been greatly devoted to the Christian Science Church to which Mrs. Bonnett  belongs. Relatives and friends feel keenly the departure of one who has attained the distinction of having lived so many happy years. Surely his noble example of longevity can only lead everyone who knew him to a better understanding of that scripture which says, "The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness."

Family information indicates that Dorothy M. Burnett willed her body to science. The body was later cremated and interred in Collegeport Cemetery. The Social Security Death Index has her date of birth as January 17, 1908 and the Texas Death Records have her date of death as March 31, 1984.
