I certify, That the within named William Nye, a private of Captain James Selkirk’s Company (d) of the Sixth Regiment of Texas Infantry, born in Texas in the State of Texas, aged 20 years, 6 feet, -- inches high, light complexion, Grey eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a Farmer was enlisted by Cap. E. A. Peareson at Matagorda, Texas on the 4th dy of October 1861 to serve for the war, and is now entitled to discharge by reason of Disability as per special order No. (no number or date). The said William Nye was paid by Capt. Udolpho Wolfe to include the 29th day of February 1862, and has pay due from that date to the present date – 8 mos & 15 days amty to Ninety three 50/100 Dolls. (93.50). There is due to him Eighty Dollars traveling from Arkansas Post, Arkansas, the place of discharge to Victoria, Texas, and there is due him the sum of Twenty five Dollars clothing allowance for the last six months the ending Oct. 4, 1862 place of enrollment, transportation not being furnished in kind. There is due him ____. He is indebted to the Confederate States Eight 50/100 Dolls. on account of clothing. Given in duplicate at Arkansas Post, this 15th day of November 1862. James Selkirk, Cap. D Commanding Company. For pay from 1st of March 1862, to 15th of November 1862, being 8 months and 15 days at Eleven Dollars per month 93.50. For pay for traveling from Arkansas Post (Ark) to Victoria, Texas, being Eight hundred miles, at ten cents per mile, 80.00, for clothing allowance, last 6 months 25.00. JOHN PHILLIPS

J. B. Phillips

Mr. J. B. Phillips, for many years a resident of Matagorda and a veteran of the civil war, died at his home Thursday morning, July 8, 1926, at 5 o'clock. Deceased lived to the ripe old age of 69 years and 5 months. Funeral services were held from the home that evening at 5 o'clock. Rev. John Sloan of Houston conducting the service.

 

Deceased is survived by four daughters and one son, viz: Mrs. J. D. Moore of Bay City, Mrs. J. H. Inglehart, Mrs. C. P. Williams, Mrs. M. Pennington, and J. B. Phillips, Jr., all of Matagorda; also 12 grandchildren mourn his loss, his wife having preceded him to the grave 17 years ago.
