He practiced dentistry in Bay City since 1947 and has been a community leader for the past three decades. Dr. Breeden was born at Old Gulf, Texas, and his family moved to Bay City while he was in junior high school. He graduated from Bay City High School, and during his high school years achieved prominence on the football field. In his Senior year he was awarded the Crofoot Trophy, now known as the Carey Smith Trophy, an annual award given to the most valuable football player. He attended Baylor University and graduated from the Washington University of Dentistry in St. Louis. After graduations in 1945, he went into service in the U. S. Navy. After two years in the Navy, he returned to Bay City, and started his professional career as a dentist. Dr. Breeden and his wife, the former Mary James Sisk, were married December 9, 1945, in Bay City. He is survived by his wife and their three children: James Shelton Breeden of Nashville, Tenn., Robert Neil Breeden, attending S. M. U. at Dallas, Mary Claire Breeden, attending Business School in Austin and a brother, B. L. Breeden of Lake Jackson. He was a member of the 9th District Dental Society, the Texas Dental Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and throughout the years always took part in church and community activities. He has served as president of the Knife and Fort Club, president of the Rotary Club, president of the Booster Club, and was a member of the Bay City Country Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and has been a resident of Bay City 43 years. He was a Veteran of the World War II having served in the U. S. Navy. Survivors include: wife, Mary James Breeden of the home address; daughter, Mary Claire Breeden of Bay City; sons, James Shelton Breeden of Nashville, Tenn. and Robert Neil Breeden of Dallas; brother, B. L. Breeden of Lake Jackson. Funeral service will be held today at 3 p. m. at the First Baptist Church, Mar. 17, with Rev. W. D. Baker officiating. Interment service will take place at the Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers are Frank Hurley, W. Q. Kenn, George Shoultz, Dr. Robert Kelly, Dr. Kenneth Culbreth, E. M. Huitt, Hugh Harper and Fred Broughton. Family wishes memorials sent to American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church in Bay City. Arrangements with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mary James Breeden were held at 2 p. m. Saturday, February 22, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Bay City, with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Mrs. Breeden passed away Thursday, February 20, 2003. She was born November 25, 1919 in Bay City to the late James C. and Fannie McDonald Sisk. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, a lifetime member of Friends of the Library, a charter member of the Junior Service League, a member of the Book Review Cub, and a Board member of the Bay City Cemetery Association. She graduated from Bay City High School, then attended Gulf Park College in Gulfport, MS and also attended the University of Texas in Austin, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Mary James Breeden was married to the late Dr. Shelton E. Breeden, DDS, who passed away March 15, 1975. Mrs. Breeden is survived by: three children, Jim Breeden of Dallas, Texas, Bob Breeden and wife Susan of Geneva, Switzerland, and Mary Claire Pollard and husband Kent of Bay City; four granddaughters, Allyson and Mary Leigh Pollard and Sarah and Elizabeth Breeden. Pallbearers were Dr. Bob Kelly, Dr. Ken Culbreth, E. M. Huitt, Val McDonald, Frank Hurley and Dr. Tillman Daniel. Honorary pallbearers include Rick Johnson, Jim Allen, Dr. Bart Griffith, Bill Thompson, Bill Penny, Bobby L. Breeden and Judge Neil Caldwell. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home of Bay City, Texas.

Dr. Shelton Breeden, age 55, died at 1:15 a. m.
Saturday in the Diagnostic Clinic, Houston, after a long illness.
Funeral services were held today at 3 p. m. in the First Baptist
Church with Rev. W. D. Baker officiating. Interment was in Cedarvale
Cemetery. The pallbearers for his services were: W. Q .Keen, Frank
Hurley, Jr., George Shoultz, E. M. Huitt, Fred Broughton, Hugh
Harper, Dr. Robert Kelly, and Dr. Kenny Culbreth.
