Walker Barton Griffith MD

Walker Barton Griffith MD passed away December 12, 2018 of congestive heart failure.

He is predeceased by his parents, Walker “Slow” Griffith and Ida Matthews Griffith of Humble, TX.

After graduation from Humble High School he attended Texas A&M University for three years and graduated from University of Texas Medical School in Galveston in 1960.

In 1961, Barton was drafted as an Obligated Volunteer by the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis. After two years of service as a Captain in Lawton, Oklahoma, the family moved to Bay City, Texas where he practiced family medicine in the Medical Arts Clinic until retirement in 2004. After retirement, Barton was able to enjoy raising cattle, fishing, hunting quail and playing dominoes.

Barton was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Republic of Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Inge Griffith; sons, Mike Griffith (Allison) and Steve Griffith (Laura); daughter, Karen Duffy (Brian); grandchildren, Michael Griffith (Maegan), Andrew Griffith, Brittan Griffith, Brooke Carrerra (Robin), Rebecca Kammer (Joseph), Brian Duffy, Emily Duffy and Matthew Duffy; and great-grandson, Walker K. Griffith.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Bay City, TX with Dr. Russ Munch officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to First Methodist Church of Bay City, the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
