in Greensville County, Virginia Louisa Jane Thorp Turner was apparently the sister of John L. Thorp (b c 1811 in VA) who was also living as a plantation owner in Matagorda County in 1850. Their father was Lewis Thorp. Henry Thorp, who was living with Louisa Jane in 1850 was probably her brother, as John L. Thorp had brothers named Peter and Henry. Louisa was born c 1815 in VA and died 27 Dec 1895. She was buried at Columbia Cemetery, West Columbia, Brazoria Co., TX.

Special to the News. Houston, Tex., June 8--This afternoon at 3 o'clock occurred the death of Dr. R. G. Turner, one of the prominent physicians of this city, at the home, No. 7?6 St. Charles street, of his son, V. B. Turner. He had been ill for some time and recently returned from Mineral Wells, whither he went for the curative properties of the water. His daughter, Mrs. Kitchen of Kentucky, his son, V. B., and several friends were at the bedside when he died. Dr. Turner was a native of Alabama, but came here soon after the Civil War. He was then a young man. He first located in Matagorda County, but remained there only a short time. Thence he moved to Columbia, Brazoria County, where he remained several years. Thence he went to Fort Bend County and was a citizen of Richmond at the time of the troubles between the political factions known as the Jaybirds and Woodpeckers. After that he came to this city, which has since been his home. He has ever commanded the highest respect of all with whom he came in contact. His friends possessed for him the warmest affection. He had extensive experience in the treatment of yellow fever and was recognized as an authority on that malady. The Mayor of this city in an official report thanked him for the wise handling of a case of yellow fever in a manner that prevented its spread. He was for several years surgeon of Dick Dowling Camp, U. C. V., and a detachment of the camp will turn out in the morning to escort the remains to the Columbia train, on which they will be taken to Columbia for burial. Dr. Turner's Funeral. Special to the News. Houston, Tex., June 9.--The remains of the late Dr. R. G. Turner wee taken from here this morning on the 7:30 train of the International & Great Northern road to Columbia, in Brazoria County, where the burial was conducted this afternoon, the remains being placed in the old family burial ground. Mrs. Kitchen, the daughter, and V. B. , the son, with other relatives and friends escorted the remains and were present at the funeral. Those who accompanied the remains to act as pallbearers are Dr. W. M. Brumby, William Corrieran, Dr. Burton, J. E. Eisemann, A. C. Hernoton, A. F. Lunn, B. B. Rice and Elliott Cage. There was this morning at the train a detachment of Dick Dowling Camp, U. C. V., as an escort of honor. The car in which the casket was taken had the appearance of a vast ambuscade of beautiful funeral designs, symbolic of the upright and generous life the deceased had led and reflecting the bright hopes of eternal joy in the everlasting future.
