Mattie J. Blair was born January 14, 1861 in Texas and died April 12, 1902 in Matagorda County. She was interred at Hawley Cemetery in Section A by her infant child who died on February 28, 1902. She married William L. Blair about 1883 and by 1900 they had the following children:

Living near Mattie and William in 1900 were the families of Joseph Blair and another William Blair, probably Thomas William, who were both brothers of William L. Violet, the mother, was living with Thomas William is also buried at Hawley. She was born in Tennessee on December 10, 1836 and died in the Blessing area, December 17, 1903.

Violet's maiden name was Violet Lawson Blair and she was the daughter of Lemuel Martin Baird (1804-1854) and Violet Lawson Henderson Baird (1807-1853). She married in Grudy County, Tennessee on November 6, 1854 to William Thomas Blair (1834-1869). William was the son of Alexander McLean Blair (1803-1849) and Malinda White Henderson Blair (1811-1870).

After the death of Mattie, William L. Blair married Rebecca "Reba" T. Robertson on May 18, 1905 in Matagorda County. Rebecca was born March 24, 1877 and was the daughter of James R. Robertson and Annie Marie Thornhill Robertson. They were still living in Matagorda County in 1910 with his children: Robert B., Claud L., Lemuel M., Nellie, Millie and Fred and their two children, James Robertson and Annie P.

By the 1920 census, William and Reba had moved to Bay City and added two more children to their family, George Thornhill and Alice.

William died on May 13, 1924 and was buried at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Rebecca was living in Ganado in 1953 at the time of the death of her son, James Robertson Blair.

Rebecca lived until the age of 95 and died on September 4, 1972 at the Manor Care Nursing Home, 7505 Bellerive, in Houston. She had been living at 5221 Pine Street in Pasadena previous to her stay at the nursing home. She was buried in Cedarvale beside William.

Other Blair family members buried at Cedarvale were: James Lemuel Blair, Fred Blair and James Robertson Blair.
 


W. L. Blair

Mr. W. L. Blair, for many years a citizen of this county, died at his home in this city Tuesday after a lingering illness. The burial took place in Cedarvale Cemetery yesterday and was attended by a large concourse of people.

Mr. Blair followed farming for a business, but had been living in Bay City for several months prior ot his death. He leaves a wife and several children to whom the sympathy of the entire community is extended.

Lemuel M. Blair

Lemuel M. Blair was born  and was the son of William L. and Mattie J. Blair. He married Bertha Lee Nolte (Feb. 3, 1894-Jul. 9, 1966), daughter of Carl & Hannah Elizabeth Sterry Nolte on October 16, 1912 and they had one son, William Nolte Blair. Lemuel died on March 28, 1928 and was buried at Matagorda Cemetery. Bertha died on July 9, 1966 and was buried beside Lemuel. Their son, William Nolte was born August 4, 1916. He served in World War II, Texas Mt Sgt US Marine Corps. He died on November 9, 1969 and was buried at Matagorda Cemetery.
 


James Lemuel Blair

James Lemuel Blair, 69, died at his home in Houston, at 10:20 a. m., Thursday. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Blair; one son, H. H. Blair of Houston; three brothers, W. T. and J. E. Blair of Houston, and A. M. Blair of Pelham, Tenn., and one sister, Mrs. Allie Henley of Pelham. Mr. Blair was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Funeral services were held Friday in the parlors of the Boulevard Undertaking Company, Rev. A. J. McCary officiating.

Mr. Blair was among the early comers to Palacios and is remembered by many as one of our most progressive and foremost citizens. The family has a host of friends here with whom we join in expressing our heartfelt sympathy.

James Robertson Blair

Funeral services were conducted from Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel Thursday morning at 11 o'clock for James Robertson Blair, 47, of Van Vleck.

Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery, with the Rev. A. C. Maxted officiating. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Mr. Blair died suddenly December 1 of a heart ailment.

A former service station operator in Bay City, Mr. Blair was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, Mrs. Reba Blair of Ganado; two sisters, Mrs. R. W. Keyes of Arlington, Virginia, and Mrs. A. A. Cobb of Dallas; one brother, George of Houston.

Pallbearers were Ross Dean, Otis Bickham, Phillip Johnson, Cecil Millican, Burt O'Connell and L. L. Bickham.
