Rosalie Einhorn was born in Houston on January 20, 1925. Her mother was Fredia Dietch Einhorn from Hungaria, and her father was Israel Einhorn from Russia. They were also Jewish. Rosalie had one sister. Rosalie was a senior at San Jacinto High School when she became engaged to Daniel, and they were married on June 21, 1942, one week after she was graduated.
Daniel worked at the Houston Shipyards for a year, and on August 9, 1943, he entered the military service. Rosalie was working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company at the time of his enlistment, but she left that job to follow Daniel. First they were in Fresno, California, where she worked a switch-board, and after that they were in Spokane, Washington, where Rosalie became an aircraft factory worker assembling B-24 airplanes. While she worked there, she was known as “Rosie the Riveter” or as “Tex.” Later Daniel was stationed overseas, and Rosalie moved back to Houston where she was employed as Miss Classified at the Houston Chronicle. Daniel served in the Pacific theatre, and was honorably discharged on March 26, 1946. After his discharge, Daniel was employed by Edison Brothers in Houston, and also attended the University of Houston School of Technology.
Three children were born to Daniel and Rosalie in Houston. Ira Jay was valedictorian in his class at Bay City High School, and graduated with honors from Trinity University in San Antonio. He and his wife Carol had three sons, Joel, Ariel, and Gabriel. They lived in Evanston, Illinois, where Ira was a pediatrician.
Barry Allen was graduated from Bay City High School in the top ten of his class, and from Trinity University with honors. Barry and his wife Sallie had two children, Brian and Sarah, and resided in San Antonio, where Barry was an attorney.
Shelly Renee was graduated from Bay City High School in the top ten of her class, and from Trinity University with honors. Shelly and her husband, Dr. Norman Young, had one son, Zachary, and two daughters, Bonnie and Heather. They lived in Reno, Nevada.
After Daniel completed his three years at the University of Houston, they moved to Bay City, and he worked at Radio Center as a technician. In 1952, they opened their own business, known as Chasnoff Radio and TV.
Daniel was a life member of the Bay City Lions Club; served on the board of their Synagogue in Wharton; was involved with Boy Scouts, the Shrine Club, and the American Legion. He served as president of B’nai B’rith in Wharton and Beth David Center in Bay City. Rosalie was a life member of the Wharton Chapter of Hadassah, held offices in the Sisterhood in Wharton and also the Beth David Center. She was also involved in Girl Scouts.
Later Daniel and Rosalie sold their business, and he was employed as manager in that same business. She retired and in addition to other activities, served as a volunteer at the Bay City Public Library.

On May 19, the families and close relatives of Herman Chasnoff, Daniel Chasnoff and Dorothy Chasnoff Blum celebrated their 70th birthday at the home of Jerry Blum. Herman's daughter, Estelle Panzer recounts the story of their not quite routine birth: Tillie Chasnoff was a 36-year-old grandmother with her own youngest child still in diapers when she delivered in Indiana in 1919. Her doctor announced to Tillie and John that they were the proud parents of twin boys. Tillie's response was, "That's just wonderful, doctor, but I think there's a little something you missed. There's another bay in here. I'm quite sure of it." The doctor suggested that she get some sleep--that she would feel better in the morning. Tillie knew what she was talking about. The following morning she gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Just two weeks short of her 97th birthday, Tillie Chasnoff died.
"She left us many gifts," said Estelle Panzer, "and to that one
extra special gift she left us--her triplets--may we say 'mazel tov,
good health and long lives to all of you.'" |

Chasnoff, 84, died Monday, September 22, 2008 in San
Antonio, Texas. She was born January 20, 1924 in
Houston, Texas, the daughter of Israel and Frieda
Einhorn. Mrs. Chasnoff was a life member of Hadassah
Women’s Organization and the Lioness Club.
