Death of an Old Citizen

The death at Bryan Tuesday of Mr. J. V. Doubek, at his home in that city removes one of the older adopted sons of Texas. Born at Prague, Austria, on January 9th, 1813, he sought the glories of America in his early manhood, landing here in 1869. In 1886 he made Belton his home, and in later years when his children were grown and scattered he often visited them, and in that way was often a visitor to his sons in this county, where he formed many acquaintances and some strong friendships among the older residents. Of late months he has made headquarters at Bryan, as a traveling man, while his wife was on a visit to a daughter, Mrs. Olga May Moore, in Los Angeles, Cal., beside whom there are surviving him, two sons, O. J. and V. H. Doubek of Bay City, and another daughter, Mrs. F. R. Moore, of Victoria. Mr. O. J. Doubek reached his bedside at Bryan before his death, and his remains were brought to Bay City for interment. The 2:30 S. P. train Wednesday was met at the depot by a large number of friends of the family who formed the funeral procession to the cemetery. Rev. John Sloan conducted the service at the Grave.

Deceased was of Catholic faith, and a long time member of the Knights of Pythias.
