Samuel William Fisher
 

Samuel William Fisher was born on May 29, 1819, in Missouri, son of Samuel Rhoads and Ann Pleasants Fisher. Employed as a merchant in Matagorda County, he married Eliza Ophelia Smith, August 16, 1848, at Matagorda. She was born June 17, 1823. Samuel W. Fisher received one-third of a league of land on April 14, 1838, declaring he came to Texas before the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Eliza died April 30, 1877, and Samuel on September 15, 1874; both are buried in the Matagorda Cemetery.

in 1854 he was made a trustee for the first public school and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda. He was made administrator of the will of his brother, Israel P. Fisher, who died May 6, 1848. Samuel's will was probated in Matagorda, October 13, 1874, leaving his estate to his wife, Eliza.

Christ Church records, Matagorda, show the following children:

1. Samuel Rhoads Fisher, born December 12, 1849

2. Frederick Kenner Fisher, born May 22, 1852, married July 12, 1877, to Lucy Adelaide Selkirk. He became a doctor and practiced in Matagorda, Indianola and Galveston

3. Coleman Fisher, born December 21, 1853, died June 18, 1855, and is buried in the Matagorda Cemetery

4. Walter Pemberton Fisher, born June 15, 1856. He died in the 1900 storm in Galveston as he tried to reach his family.

5. Nettie P. Fisher, born 1858

6. William Comstock Fisher, born January 18, 1860, married Alice Porter. He became a doctor. Their children were W. C. Fisher, Jr.; Sidney L. Fisher, who died in France in World War I; Captain Royden Kenner Fisher; a daughter, who married W. C. Cromby of El Paso, Texas; Lynette, who married C. C. Forshey of Houston

7. Henry Mansfield Fisher was born April April 7, 1862, and died of yellow fever October 24, 1862

8. Charles, born in 1867.
