John F. Kopecky was born on June 7, 1865, and came to America from Czechoslovakia at the age of nineteen. He settled in Lavaca County, near Hallettsville, and became a farmer. He married Frances Wojtek (April 16, 1870-January 9, 1964). John moved his family to Granger, Texas, where he bought a farm and lived for several years, and then moved to Midfield, Matagorda County, Texas, bought a farm, and lived there until he was killed by a horse on April 7, 1922. He was buried in Hawley Cemetery. Frances continued to live at Midfield for a number of years, and then moved to El Maton where she died at the age of ninety-three and was buried in Hawley Cemetery.
John and Frances had twelve children. 2. Frances Kopecky married John Machee at Granger and they had four children. John Machee and Frances died in Granger and were buried in the Granger Cemetery. 3. Frank Kopecky was born in Granger, and died there at the age of twenty-two. He was buried in the Granger Cemetery. 4. V. L. Kopecky was born on December 4, 1892, and lived in Matagorda County, where he had a farm and several businesses in El Maton and Bay City. He married Louise Vavrecka and they had five children. He died on August 11, 1968. 5. Joe Kopecky was born on December 20, 1893. He married Ellen Hall of Jackson Mississippi, but they were later divorced. Joe served in World War I. He received the Purple Heart after fifty years. Joe was the Lightweight Champion Wrestler of the World. He died of cancer on September 26, 1973, and was buried in Hawley Cemetery. 6. Charlie Kopecky lived in Pasadena, Texas, where he was retired from Sinclair Oil Refinery. He married Rosalie Aberhart and had one child. Both he and Rosalie were buried in the Pasadena cemetery. 7. Tracy Kopecky married Mike Baggett and they had two children. Mike retired from Crown Refinery in Pasadena. Mike and both of his children were deceased and Tracy lived in Pasadena. 8. Agnes Kopecky married David Boxton and they had three children. David retired from Sinclair Oil Refinery and was deceased. Agnes continued to live in Pasadena. 9. Ernest Kopecky was born on June 7, 1903, was a farmer and lived with his mother in El Maton. He died September 7, 1936. 10. Robert Kopecky was born in 1905, and was twenty-two years old when he died on December 27, 1927. He was buried in Hawley Cemetery. 11. Lillian Kopecky was born on June 4, 1909, in Granger. She lived in Midfield, El Maton, and Bay City. She married J. D. Arguier in 1973 and lived in Oklahoma City. J. D. worked in the oil industry and was killed in Monahans in an explosion. Lillian moved to Bay City and later married Jerome Flint of Covington, Virginia. He served with the United States Army and retired as construction superintendent in Freeport and moved to Blessing. 12. Vlasta Kopecky was born in Jonah, Texas, in Williamson County on December 16, 1911. She moved to Midfield and El Maton and married Anton Domorad, a rice farmer. Anton was born on November 16, 1911, and died on April 24, 1975, and was buried in Hawley Cemetery. Vlasta died March 12, 2006 and was buried at Hawley.

Mrs. Francis Kopecky, 93, passed away in El Maton at 1:30 a. m. this morning. Services will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday morning at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Barton of Taylor, Tex., officiating. She was a member of the Brethren Church and had lived in Matagorda County since 1916. She was a member of the SPJST of Granger. Mrs. Kopecky is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Tracy Baggett and Mrs. Agnes Boston of Pasadena, Mrs. Lillie Flint of Bay City and Mrs. Vlasta Domorad of Collegeport, four sons, John and Joe of El Maton, V. L. of Bay City, and Charlie of Round Rock; 10 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 16 great, great grandchildren.

Kopecky, John M., 81, of El Maton, died Thursday afternoon at
Methodist Hospital in Houston. Services will be held at 3 p.m.
Saturday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel. H. E. Beseda of the
Czech Moravian Brethren will officiate. Interment will be in
Hawley
Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise Kopecky of El
Maton; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Popek, Mrs. Elsie Sliva and Mrs.
Martha Thompson, of El Maton; Mrs. Alice Vacek of Blessing, and Mrs.
Albina Vavrecka of Sugarland; one son, Alfred Kopecky of El Maton;
four sisters, Mrs. Dave Boston and Mrs. Mike Baggett of Pasadena,
Mrs. Anton Domorad of Palacios, and Mrs. Jerry Flint of Bay City;
two brothers, Joe Kopecky of El Maton and Charles Kopecky of Round
Rock; 13 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Johnny Vavrecka, Weldon
Popek, Joe Glen Sliva, Carlos Vacek, Johnny Lee Thompson, Dr. Alfred
A. Kopecky. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth and Emil Sliva,
Johnny Popek and E. R. Vacek. He was a member of the Czech Moravian
Brethren and the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge.
Funeral services for Louise Kopecky, 95, of
Blessing will be held 10:30 a. m. Thursday at Taylor Brothers Funeral
Home chapel with the Rev. John Tripp and the Rev. Henry Beseda
officiating. Burial will be in
Hawley
Cemetery, Blessing.
Mrs. Kopecky was born July 10, 1892, in
Nelsonville, Texas, to Charles and Frances Janca Schiller and died Jan.
5, 1988, at Bay Villa Nursing Home, Bay City.
She was a long-time resident of Matagorda
County and was a 15-year resident of Blessing prior to moving to Bay
City two years ago. She was a member of the Lutheran church.
Survivors include five stepdaughters, Elsie
Williams of Collegeport, Martha Thompson and Mary Popek, both of El
Maton, Alice Vacek of Blessing and Alvina Vavrecka of Sugar Land; a son,
Alfred Kopecky of El Maton; a brother, Charlie Schiller of Houston; 13
grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers include Emil Sliva, Alfred A.
Kopecky, E. R. Vacek, Weldon Popek, Johnny Lee Thompson and Johnny Popek.
Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers

KOPECKY, Victor L., 75, of 1407 Ave. F, Bay City, died Sunday in a Houston hospital. Funeral services set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Joseph Barton, pastor of the Czech Brethren Church of Taylor, Tex., will officiate at the services.
Burial will be in the Hawley Cemetery , under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.
Kopecky was a retired cafe owner. He is a lifelong resident of the county and moved to Bay City from El Maton in 1945. He was a member of the SPJST Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bertha Kopecky of Bay City; three daughters, Mrs. Lydia Gates of Bay City, Mrs. Oleine Nedbalek of Houston and Mrs. Helen Smith of Pineland; two sons, Gus A. Kopecky of Houston and Virgil Kopecky of Bay City; four sisters, Mrs. Tracy Baggett and Mrs. Agnes Boston of Pasadena, Mrs. Lillian Flint of Bay City and Mrs. Vlesta Domorad of Palacios; three brothers, Charles Kopecky of Round Rock, John Kopecky and Joe Kopecky of El Maton; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held for Mrs.
Louise Vavrecka Kopecky, 85, of Bay City, 2 p. m. Wednesday at Taylor
Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.
Officiating at the services will be the Rev.
Chester Sassman.
Kopecky died February 6, 1982 at her
residence.
Survivors are daughters, Lydia K. Gates of
Bay City, Ollie D. Nedbalek of Houston, Helen L. Smith of Pineland;
sons, Gus A. Kopecky of Houston, Virgil L. Kopecky of Bay City; 14
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Kopecky was a resident of Matagorda County
since 1918.

Joe Kopecky
Joe Kopecky, 79, a resident of Blessing passed away September 26 at the Matagorda General Hospital. He was a member of American Legion Cecil Lee Post No. 649 Blessing, the SPJST lodge, and the Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: 4 sisters, Mrs. Treacy Baggett and Mrs. Agnes Boston both of Pasadena, Mrs. Lillian Flint of Bay City and Mrs. Vlasta Domorad of Markham; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held September 28 at 2 p.m. at Taylor Brothers Chapel with Pastor Henry E. Beseda of Caldwell, Texas. Interment will be at the Hawley Cemetery in Blessing with pallbearers being; Mel Lee, John Graff, Tick Pierce, Buck Janak, Victa? Zemanek, and A. C. Bogart.

Robert Kopecky, son of Mrs. Frances Kopecky died Tuesday morning at the family home. Robert had been an invalid all his life but was happy and cheerful. The sympathy of the neighborhood goes to Mrs. Kopecky and family in the hour of their sadness. Funeral services will be at Hawley, where he will be buried Wednesday P. M.

Lillian Flint, 94, formerly of Blessing, died January 29, 2004 at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City. Mrs. Flint was born June 4, 1909 in Granger, Texas to the late John and Frances Voytek Kopecky. She was a resident of Blessing since 1970, before taking residence in the nursing home in 2001. Survivors include: step-daughter, Phyllis Beverage of Boca Raton, Florida; sister, Vlasta "Blondie" Domorad of Markham; three step-children and one great grandchild; care giver, Sue and Thomas Jahns of Blessing; nephew, Alfred Kopecky of El Maton; and three nieces, Alice Vacek of Blessing, Mary Popek of Bay City, and Martha Thompson of El Maton. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Jerome "Jerry" Flint; sisters, Frances Malish, Tracy Baggett and Agnes Boston; and brothers, V. L., Joe, John and Charlie Kopecky. Vlasta Kopecky Domorad, 94, of
Bay City passed away Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Bay Villa
Nursing Home. She was born December 16, 1911 in Granger, TX
to the Late John Frank & Frantisky Woytek Kopecky. Mrs.
Domorad was a life long resident of Matagorda County, a
Lutheran, and housewife. She was also, a member of the
American Legion Post 649 Auxiliary for 36 years and SPJST.
Vlasta loved fishing, playing bingo, and spending time with
her loved ones.
She is survived by children:
Margaret Jurek & husband Louis of Markham; 2 grandsons,
Jason and Neil Jurek both of Markham; close friends, Jimmy
Henkes, Wilma Vavra, Ona Lea Pierce, Lee Hall Pierce, and
Frances Jurek; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Domorad was
preceded in death by her husband Anton R. Domorad on April
24, 1975; parents; sisters, Frances Malish, Tracy Baggett,
Agnes Boston, and Lillian Flint; brothers, V. L., Joe, John
and Charlie Kopecky. A Graveside Service will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Hawley Cemetery under the direction of Ona Lea Pierce.
