Robert J. Sisk Family
By Margaret Lou Albert

Robert J. “Bob” Sisk, child of Charles L. J. and Mary E. Trice Sisk, was born in 1874 in Paint Rock Valley, Alabama, and came to Texas with the family at the age of twenty-one. He became a storekeeper along with his father and his brother James C., and he and James later became partners in the grocery and hardware business.
-

In 1913, Robert married Allie Lee Milner from Oklahoma. Allie Lee’s parents had died, and she brought her younger brothers and sisters, Roosevelt, Mack, Mark and Pitt, to Texas with her. Her brothers and sisters lived with her and Robert until adulthood, and were reared by them along with their two children, Robert Lee, born in 1914, and Allie Jay, born in 1920.

Robert Lee attended Bay City schools and later married Grace Warren, a nurse, in 1948. They resided in Bay City. At one time they toured Ireland, the ancestry home of the Sisk family, and discovered that the Sisk family name was still in prominence there. Robert Lee died in 1979 and was buried in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Grace continued to live in Bay City.

Allie Jay married W. H. Parham in 1954, and they lived part of the time in Bay City, and the rest of the time at their summer home.

Robert J. Sisk died in 1944, and Allie Lee Sisk died in 1973; both were buried at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Local Resident Of Many Years, Allie Lee Sisk, Dies Monday

Allie Lee Sisk, an early pioneer of Bay City, passed away in the Matagorda General Hospital July 16 after being hospitalized for several months.

Mrs. Sisk came to Bay City in 1913 fro Waurika, Oklahoma. She and Robert J. Sisk were wed that same year and began various business activities.

Around this time, the Sisk brothers, R. J. and J. C., purchased the Doubek & Hawkins Hardware Store on 6th street. The business was named Sisk Grocery & Hardware Company. However, when oil became the financially promising industry of the county, R. J. Sisk acquired more oil lands and began to devote more time to these interests. He sold his part of the hardware store to his brother and opened an office in his home. To their oil interests the R. J. Sisks added real estate.

Allie Lee Sisk was left a widow on March 9, 1944. She continued with her husband's business endeavors, especially real estate, until her recent illness. Mrs. Sisk had been hospitalized for the past several months preceding her death.

Survivors of Allie Sisk include her daughter, Mrs. Allie Jay Parham, a son Robert Lee Sisk, one sister and two brothers. Funeral services will be held July 19 at the First Christian Church where she was an active member until the time of her death.
