He came to the United States from London at the age of 21. My mother was born in County Heath, Ireland in 1850. My mother and father were married in New York in 1872. They were early pioneers that landed at Indianola in 1875. I grew up living along Tres Palacios Creek near Deming’s Bridge. My father was a rancher and served as Worthy Master of the Masonic Order. I attended Tres Palacios School near early Tidehaven landing which was near my home. My name is on the 1895 census as a student in that school. We lived on the west bank of Turtle Creek across from Palacios in large two story house. We were farmers and ranchers. Our stately old ranch house is no longer there. I died in 1946. My husband buried me in this tomb above the ground to wait for him. -- Palacios Cemetery Tour

Louis Wolf Killed in Car Wreck Saturday

Mr. Louis Wolf, rancher of Matagorda county for nearly 60 years, died of injuries received in a car wreck Saturday morning about 11 o'clock. Mr. Wolf was driving alone from his home near Buckeye and was about a quarter of a mile from his home when the car evidently got out of control and skid marks showed it swerved from one side of the road to the other and then turned over. Mr. Wolf died within a short time after the accident.

His death ends the colorful career of another of the old time cattle men of this section. He was born in Mills County, Iowa, August 24, 1875 the eldest son of J. J. Wolf and Cynthia Marie Van Sickle Wolf. He came to Texas in 1897 and went to work on the J. E. Pierce ranch and within a few years became ranch foreman, a position he held until the Pierce cattle were sold to the Ward Cattle Company. He continued as foreman for the Ward's for several years until he resigned to go into business for himself. In 1917 he acquired the old Bundick Ranch west of the Colorado River and near Markham. Through the years he acquired other lands in that section which he operated until his death.

In 1919 Mr. Wolf and Miss Sarah J. Rowles of Blessing were married. She died in 1946. There were no children.

He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Blanche O'Connor, who has lived with him for the past several years. Two other sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Palmer of Iola, Kansas, Mrs. Effie Modrall of Lockwood, Missouri and two brothers, John Wolf of Fort Scott, Kansas, and Elmer Wolf of Lockwood, Missouri survive also.

Services Monday afternoon at 3:30 from Taylor Bros. Funeral home with burial in Cedarvale Cemetery. Officiating were Rev. W. M Hathaway and Rev. R. E. Black.

This was the third traffic death of the year for Matagorda County.
