DIED

Mr. L. W. Uzzell, a highly respected and old time citizen of Texas died at his home No. 1319 Davis avenue, this city, at 10:50 o'clock yesterday morning after a long illness. He was in the 79th year of age and leaves a wife and several step children to mourn his loss. One of his step children is Conductor James E. Reeves. The funeral will occur from the family residence at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon.

Death of Mrs. Sam Wharton Occurred At Noon Today

Resident of Laredo For a Number of Years,
Passed Away After Illness of Several Weeks Duration

Mrs. Mamie Wharton, wife of Sam Wharton, died at her home 1618 Juarez Avenue at 12:30 noon today following an illness of over a month, her condition having been serious for the past few weeks.

Mrs. Wharton was a native of Matagorda county, Texas where she was born in 1878, and was a daughter of Mrs. Uzzell of this city. Besides her husband and mother deceased is survived by seven children. Mrs. Wharton had made her home in Laredo for the past fifteen years or more and the news of her death came as a shock to all who knew her. The family have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.

The funeral will take place from the Wharton home, 1618 Juarez Avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock and friends and acquaintances of the family are invited to attend.

Laredo, Sept. 28--Sam Wharton, 59, chief joint car inspector for the Texas-Mexican Railway here, died Sunday. He had been with the company 42 years. Funeral services will be held Tuesday.

Ethel Mae Wharton Watson

Ethel Mae Wharton Watson, 91, went to be with her Savior on Friday, August 18, 2006. She was born in Laredo, Texas to Sam and Mamie (Uzzell) Wharton on December 3, 1914.Ethel was a wonderful homemaker, a devoted grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was an award-winning Avon Representative and an award-winning member of the Garden Club. Known to all as "Nana" or Mrs. Watson, her home and table were always open and welcoming.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers: Clyde, Eddie, Arthur, Sam, and Clarence Wharton; half sister, Myrtle Rose Elps; and beloved daughter, Patricia M. Collier. She is survived by her two daughters, Connie L. Lankford of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Jean Ann Black of Marshall, Texas; son, K.M. "Bud" (Sandra) Watson, Jr. of Jones Creek, Texas; chosen daughter, Mary (C.P.) Pena of Corpus Christi, Texas; and brother Wade L. (Jeanne) Wharton of Kennewick, Washington; as well as eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at Seaside Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 21, 2006 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

K. M. Watson

K.M. Watson, 69, died Saturday in a Freeport nursing home. He had lived in Corpus Christi until six weeks ago and was a retired insurance carrier supervisor for American Capital Insurance Co.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; five daughters, Mrs. Patricia Collier and Mrs. Connie Langford, both of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Jean Ann Black of Marshall, and Mrs. Bernice Edwards and Mrs. Betty Wittenbach, both of Freeport; two sons, Karl M. Watson, Jr. of Farmington, Mo., and Bob Brannan of Freeport; two sisters, Mrs. Tish Bailey of Alice and Mrs. Connie Cole of Santa Rosa; 13 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Cage-Mills Downtown Chapel.
