MABANK WEEKLY BANNER - Wednesday March 20, 1929

A. J. Barlow died last Monday afternoon about five o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dora Curlin, in Dallas. His body was brought to Mabank Tuesday about noon in the Eubank Brothers hearse and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Murphrey. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. M. Manning yesterday afternoon at the Elm Grove cemetery. The burial was by the Masonic fraternity of which he had long been a member.

The deceased was born in Simpson County, Mississippi in 1859. In 1887 he moved with his family to Louisiana. They came to Texas in 1906 and settled in the southern part of Van Zandt County where they lived until moving to Mabank. For the last few years he had been making his home in Dallas.

He was married to Miss Elizabeth Burkett in 1876. To this union twelve children were born, nine boys and three girls.  His wife preceded him in death several years ago. Surviving him are nine children; Bruce, Clifton, R. T., Bert, Jack and Victor Barlow, and Mrs. May Meyers, Mesdames Pearl Antony and Dora Curlin.

Early in life he professed a belief in Christ and united with the Methodist church of which denomination he remained an active member until death.

A. J. Barlow was a good man and upright citizen, kind to his neighbors and just in his dealings.  He will not only be missed by the members of his family but a large circle of friends.
