Memorial Donation

Harmonie Club representatives Neva Wilson and Diane Bowers (right) present a donation of $100 to Rev. Herb Willke to help fund the construction of the Kerry Dale Bell Tower and Memorial Garden at St. John's Episcopal Church. The structure is being built in memory of 1st Lt. Kerry Dale, USMC. At left is Lt. Dale's widow, Tami Petersen Dale, daughter Amber, and father Jim Dale. The bell tower contains the bell from the Old Hawley Church. The public is invited to the dedication ceremony for the memorial to be held at 12:30 p. m. Sunday during which Marine and Naval aviators plan a missing-man formation flyby. Memorial Dedication

Family members and relatives of the late 1st Lt. Kerry Dale, U. S. M. C., stand in the Bell Tower and Memorial Garden which bears his name following its official dedication Sunday. The husband of Tami Petersen Dale and father of Amber, Lt. Dale was killed in the crash of his fighter aircraft in July. Nearly 100 people attended the dedication of the memorial at St. John's Episcopal Church. Addressing the gathering, Lt. Dale's father, Jim Dale, recalled his son's love of God, country and family. The dedication was concluded with a "mission-man formation" flyby flown by Marine and Naval aviators.

Veda C. Dale, age 63, of Palacios, formerly of Houston, died Sunday, September 16, 2001. She was born July 21, 1938 in Dallas, Texas, daughter of James E. and Bernice Chenault. She was the former owner and operator of Palacios Sporting Goods until her retirement. Aside from being a businesswoman, she was a civic leader and director of Palacios Chamber of Commerce, director and chairman of Friends of Elder Citizens in Palacios, member of Harmony Club, and a faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church in Port Lavaca. Preceded in death by parents, by son, Kerry Dale in 1988, and brother David Ripple.

Survivors include: husband of 44 years, Jim Dale of Palacios; daughter, Laurie Ford and husband James of Houston; son, Jim Dale of Coppell, Texas; five grandchildren, Amber Dale of Palacios, Katie and Kerrie Ford of Houston, Jessica and Mickey Dale of Coppell.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 22, at Grace Episcopal Church, 213 E. Austin, Port Lavaca, Texas, with the Rev. Canon Robert DeWolfe officiating. A noon meal and fellowship will follow in the parish hall. Friends will be urged to then join Veda's family for interment of the ashes at Hawley Cemetery near Blessing, Texas. Directions will be provided.

James “Jim” Preston Dale, 81, of Palacios, TX passed away to be with his Lord on Sept. 22, 2012.

A Memorial Service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, located at 300 3rd Street in Palacios, led by Reverend Cynthia Tobola.

Mr. Dale was born on Aug. 12, 1931 to the late James Harry Dale and Lorene Brashear Dale in Fort Worth, TX. He proudly served in the United States Navy, and during his time in service, he served in the Korean War where he earned several exemplary and notable awards and medals; one of them being the Purple Heart.

After his years of military service, he met the love of his life, Veda Jane Chenault, whom he married in 1957. He graduated with honors from the University of Texas in 1958, earning a degree in Chemical Engineering. He began his career with Standard Oil of California in El Paso, TX and worked in various other refineries in Pascagoula, Mississippi and Houston, TX.

Jim and Veda ultimately settled in Palacios, Texas, where together, they opened up their own local business, Palacios Sporting Goods, awarded The Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year.

Jim was a proud member of the Former Texas Rangers Association, an involvement that he deeply cherished. He was an extremely active and proud member of the Episcopal Church, where he was very well known and loved by the many for whom he served as a Eucharistic Lay Reader. During retirement, he stayed active in teaching concealed handgun license courses, and had a great love for animals, especially his beloved dog, Sparky.

He is survived by his daughter, Laurie Ford and husband James of Houston, Texas, his son James Earl Dale of Dallas, Texas, his daughter-in-law Tami Petersen of Palacios, and his grandchildren Amber Steffek, Katie Ford, Jessica Dale, Kerrie Ford, and James Mackensey Dale, and one great-granddaughter, Kynleigh Steffek.

He is reunited with and preceded in death by his wife, Veda Chenault Dale, and his youngest son, 1st Lieutenant Marine Kerry Duane Dale.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, community, all of those whom he impacted, and many more.
