Private John Ervin Fisher [October 23, 1888 - October 13, 1917] was born to Sidney Joshua** Fisher [April 5, 1862 - June 3, 1925] and Sallie (Smith) Fisher [November 4, 1868 - February 5, 1942] at Bay City, Matagorda County, Texas.  He died from Pneumonia, (lobar), acute, left lower lobe [probable Spanish Flu] at the Base Hospital No. 1, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.  He was attached to Supply Company, 360^th Infantry, 36^th (T Patch) Division.  He is buried in a lost grave at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, Matagorda County, Texas.  A memorial marker is placed at the foot of his mother’s grave.  Besides his parents it is not known if he had any siblings.  As best as can be determined his family was living in Bay City when he enlisted and when he died.  He gave his occupation as farmer on his draft registration card.  His parents are buried at Cedarvale Cemetery (father’s grave also lost).

JOHN IRVIN FISHER

John Irvin Fisher, one of the soldier boys from Matagorda County , died at Camp Travis , San Antonio , at 3 a.m. Saturday, October 13. He was the son of Mr. Sidney Fisher, of this county, and will be buried here, the remains having arrived today. Young Fisher, at the time of his death was in his 29th year and left here a few weeks ago in perfect health.

The Tribune was unable to learn the cause of this young man’s death, the company he belonged to or his position. We sympathize sincerely with the parents in the loss of their boy.

Known List of Matagorda Boys Who Died in Service.

The following names of the soldiers who died while in the service of the U. S. A., are all that has been reported. If any one knows of others, and the cause of their death, if possible, please inform Mrs. Wm. Cash, Bay City, Texas:

From Bay City--John Erwin Fisher, died in training camp of pneumonia.

Mrs. Sallie Fisher

Mrs. Sallie Fisher, age 73 years, 2 months, 1 day, passed away at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Lillie Roper, in the north part of our city Thursday morning.

Mrs. Fisher is survived by her five daughters, Mrs. Mandy Mack, Mrs. Veola Halliburton, Mrs. Lillie Roper, Mrs. Teresa Coker of Bay City, Mrs. Maude Hardy of San Antonio; two sons, E. H. and Manly Fisher of Bay City, Texas, and one sister Mrs. Pearl Landrum of Matagorda.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. with Rev. W. K. Gibson officiating.

Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Taylor Bros. are in charge of the funeral arrangements.
