Sergeant John* Garcia, U.S. Army [October 20, 1917 - March 29, 1945] was born to Juan** Garcia [February 13, 1891 - April 9, 1982] and Mary Louisa (Barbosa) Garcia*** [October 12, 1901 - July 23, 1967] at Goliad, Goliad County, Texas.  On March 19, 1941 he joined the U.S. Army at Houston, Texas.  He gave his home of record as Matagorda County.  At the time of his death he was serving with the 290th Infantry Regiment, 75th Infantry Division, when he was Killed In Action shortly after his unit crossed the Rhine River near Hunxe, Germany.  He is buried at the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands in Plot H, Row 13, Grave 26. At the time of his death his family was living in Bay City.  He was survived by his parents; brothers: Daniel, Ezequiel, Santiago and Alfredo; sisters: Josefina and Sarita.

MARY LOUISA GARCIA

 

Mary Louisa Garcia, 65, of Bay City passed away July 23, 1967 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.  She was born October 12, 1901 in Charco, Texas to the late Nabor Barbosa and Cecilia Mendoza Barbosa.  She was a lifetime resident of Bay City, a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a Gold Star Mother.

 

She is survived by:  her husband John Garcia of Bay City; daughters:  Josephine Garcia and Sara Garza both of Bay City; sons:  Ezequiel and Alfred Garcia both of Bay City; brother:  Natividad Torres of Raymondville.

 

She was preceded in death by her son Sgt. John Garcia, U.S. Army, who was Killed In Action in Germany during WWII and is buried in the Netherlands.

 

Rosary will be at 8pm Monday July 24th at the funeral home.  Funeral service will be at 3pm Tuesday July 25, 1967 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father J.P. Shannon officiating.  Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

 

Pallbearers are:  Amos Garcia, Nat Charles, Roy Rodriguez, Robert Arias, Humberto Gonzalez and A.I. Breaux.

 

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros Funeral Home, CI5 – 4613.

JOHN GARCIA

 

John Garcia, 91, of Bay City passed away on April 9, 1982 at his home in Bay City.  He was born February 13, 1891 in Goliad, Texas to the late Victor and Masadonia Garcia.  He had lived in Bay City for 38 years and was a member of Our Lady of  Guadalupe Catholic Church.

 

He is survived by:  sons:  Ezequiel and Alfred Garcia both of Bay City; 22 Grandchildren and 43 Great Grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife:  Mary Louisa Garcia in 1967 and his son Sgt. John Garcia, U.S. Army who was Killed In Action in Germany during WWII and is buried in the Netherlands.

 

Rosary will be at 8pm Sunday April 11th at the funeral home.  Funeral service will be at 9am Monday April 12, 1982 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father J.P. Shannon officiating.  Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.  Pallbearers will be his grandsons:  Alex Garza, Jr., Jimmy Garza, Jimmy Garcia, John Garcia, Freddie Garcia and Sammy Garcia.
