ONE KILLED, TWO INJURED REPORTED WAR CASUALTIES

Feather and Fields Injured; Henry Thompson Killed

      Palacios casualty list in World War II continues to grow and this week three more have been received, two injured and one death.

      Early Wednesday morning Mrs. Frances Thompson was advised by the War Department that her husband, Pfc. Henry Thompson, had died from injuries received in action in Germany on March 16th. Mrs. Thompson and son, born March 1, are here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Jordan.

Local Stores Closed Today For Reburial Of Returned Soldier

Palacios business houses will close Thursday afternoon for the funeral services of Private First Class Henry Thompson, Infantry Army of the United States. The service will be held in the Palacios Funeral Home at 2 o’clock with Rev. Rayford B. Harris, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be made in the Palacios cemetery with grave side military rites by the Lloyd Queen Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The 23-year-old soldier died March 16, 1945, in Germany one year exactly from the date of his entry into service. He was a member of the late Gen. Patton’s troops. He was fatally wounded March 15, 1945, for which he was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart decoration.

The returned veteran was born March 13, 1922, at Antlers, Oklahoma, and was moved to Matagorda County with his parents a short while later. He attended school at Van Vleck and Collegeport, and was employed by the Aaron Truck-Lines at the time of his entry into service.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances Jordan Thompson, two small sons, Earl Henry Thompson and Michael Lee Thompson, all of Palacios; his father, W. H. Thompson of Bay City; and his mother Mrs. Pearl Lundy, of Modesto, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. W. H. Duke of Bakersfield, Calif.

THARP, PEARL ORA--Funeral services were conducted in the Memorial Chapel at Greenlawn Mortuary, Friday at 3 p.m. for Pearl Ora Tharp, 59, 606 1/2 Sterling Road, who died Aug. 15 in a Bakersfield hospital. The Rev. Dale Hufft officiated at the services and interment followed in the Oak Hill Section at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Tharp was a native of Texas and had resided in Kern County for 26 years. She had been employed as a babysitter. Survivors include her widower, Roy Tharp, of the home address; one daughter Venita Stambaugh of Bakersfield; her mother, Mrs. Willie Barrett of Bakersfield; one brother, Frank Terry of Bakersfield, and six grandchildren.
