In 1919, the Matagorda ISD voted to begin school operations at Gulf. Two board members were elected from Gulf on July 14, 1919 and the first teachers were elected on July 21, 1919. The school board voted to have High School at Gulf and Elementary School at Matagorda on March 13, 1922, but later hirings indicate primary grades were held at Gulf. By September 1925, a school for Gulf Mexican students was in operation. On June 15, 1928, the Matagorda ISD school board voted to allow Wadsworth students the opportunity to attend Gulf High School. TGS ceased production in "Old" Gulf and moved operations to Newgulf, which brought necessary reductions in finances in 1932. The last students graduated from Gulf High School in 1938 and high school students were transferred to Bay City ISD in subsequent years.

Where there was more than one child with the same surname, only the surname was listed unless the original name also had an initial for the first name.
