November 26, 1830 - October 27, 1891
Aged 60 yrs, 11 mos,
and 1 day

Our precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.

Jacob Smith (September 16, 1842 - October 30, 1859), son of Jacob and Elizabeth Sargent Smith is buried in the Sargent Cemetery.
Most of the children of Jacob and Elizabeth H. Sargent Smith are buried in Matagorda Cemetery.
Evidence indicates that Lewis A. and Bell [Isabella] Smith also died before their mother.
They are both evidently buried with their mother as their names appear on her marker and they have foot stones.

Elizabeth Smith

Elizabeth Smith, wife of Jacob Smith, died at her home on lower Caney on last Wednesday night, at the age of nearly four score years. Grandma Smith was one of the pioneers of the county, highly respected and honored by all who knew her and the BREEZE joins the large circle of friends in extending sympathy.--The Bay City Breeze, August 7, 1897

He was taken to Kenner for interment in the family burying ground. He leaves a large family to mourn him. They have the sympathy of their friends.

Jacob Smith

The remains of Uncle Jacob Smith were brought up from Matagorda last Monday evening and intered in the Kenner cemetery. Another old land mark has passed away. Uncle Jacob has spent more than three score years in this immediate neighborhood and has many friends who mourn his death.
