Willis Jay Barnes

Funeral Services for Willis Jay Barnes, 51, will be 2 p. m on Saturday Sept. 18, 1999 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham with the Rev. James Ashton, Jr. officiating.

Interment will follow at Markham Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. on Friday in the funeral home chapel and from 1-2 p. m. on Saturday at the church.

Barnes died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999. He was born Friday, August 13, 1948 in Midfield, Tex. to Tom Barnes and Eva Brazil Barnes.

Survivors include: mother, Eva Barnes of Markham; four daughters, Charlotte Martin, Sabrina Barnes and Mary Ward all of Houston and Jerilynn Williams of Bay City; four sons, Willis, Jr., Elbert, LaChristopher and Alvin all of Houston; two sisters, Earnestine White of East Bernard and Debra Byrd of Houston; one brother, Lloyd Brazil of Markham; three aunts, Myrtle Sanford, Agnes Brown and Helen Woods; four uncles, Alfred Blackmon, Jessie Flagg, Billy Flagg and Bobby Flagg; special friend, Rosie Lebner of Switzerland; spiritual advisor, Katherine Cox of Dallas; attorney and friend, Roual Schonemorn of Austin; 18 grandchildren; and other friends and relatives.

Pallbearers include: Dwight Sanford, Cleothius Smith, David Sanford, Larry Sanford, Andrew Sardinea, Barrett Sardinea, Cedo Sardinea, Jr., and Cedo Sardenia III.

Willis Jay Barnes

On Friday, August 13, 1948, a baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Barnes, Jr. in Midfield, Texas whom they named, Willis Jay Barnes.

His upbringing was surrounded by his siblings, family and friends.

He attended public school in the community of his birth where he enjoyed life to the fullest.

His spiritual affiliation began at an early age in life. His spiritual growth enabled him to face life right in the face and smile.

He leaves behind many loving memories to his loving and devoted family which includes his Mother, Eva Barnes of Markham; four daughters, Charlotte Martin, Sabrina Barnes and Mary Ward of Houston, Jerilynn Williams of Bay City; four sons, Willis, Jr., Elbert, LaChristopher, and Alvin all of Houston; two sisters, Ernestine White of East Bernard and Debra Byrd of Houston; one brother, Lloyd Brazil of Markham; his sister-in-law, Denise Brazil of Markham; brothers-in-law, Robert Stafford and Elijah O’Neal of Houston; uncle-in-law, Travis Amboree of Houston; three aunts, Myrtle Sanford and Agnes Brown of Markham, Helen Woods of Houston; four uncles, Alfred Blackmon of Van Vleck, Jessie and Billie Flagg of Markham, Bobby Flagg of El Campo; three aunts-in-law, Shirley Blackmon of Van Vleck, Carolyn Sue Flagg and Carolyn Flagg of Bay City; a very special loving and devoted friend, Rose Marie Lebner of Switzerland; faithful spiritual advisor Katherine Cox of Dallas; devoted friend/attorney, Roal Schonemorn of Austin; 18 grandchildren; a special cousin, Willie Mae Sardinea; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, special friends, Inmates of Death Row of Huntsville.

LAWRENCE BATTIES

BAY CITY [Matagorda County, Texas] - Funeral services for Lawrence Batties, 56, of Bay City, who passed away Dec. 10, 2007, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at Bethel Baptist Church in Bay City, with the Rev. L.C. Cunningham Jr., eulogist. Burial will follow at Markham Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. today at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Lawrence Batties

On Monday, October 16, 1951, a son was born to now the late Irving Batties and Menervia Ferrel Batties, in Markham, Texas. He was named Lawrence Batties, and shared his upbringing with his siblings, other relatives and friends.

He grew up in the community of his birth. There, he attended public school along with his schoolmates.

Throughout life, Lawrence held firm to his belief in God, and kept the faith.

His earthly journey came to an end on Monday, December 10, 2007, in Bay City, Texas.

He leaves behind, a devoted and special friend, Kenechia Sims of Bay City, one sister, Daisy Anderson of Egypt, Texas, and two brothers and sisters-in-law, John L. Batties, Johnnie B. Batties (& Angela Rene), and Mary Phillips, all of Bay City, Texas. Also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his loving parents, Irving Batties and Menervia Batties, three sisters, Vivian Brown Whalon, Mary Alice Brown Barnes and Christine Johnson; one brother-in-law, W. J. Whalon.

Minerva Batties

On June 9, 1909, a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Willie Ferrel.

She confessed Christ at an early age in Markham, Texas. She lived in Markham for a number of years and later she moved to Bay City, Texas.

Here she remained until she passed away on November 30, 1981 at 7:45 A. M. in Matagorda General Hospital. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories, four sons, Johnnie B. Batties, Johnnie L. Batties, Paul Batties and Lawrence Batties of Bay City, three daughters, Mary Alice Barnes of Bay City, Christine Johnson of Bay City and Vivian Whalon of Hungerford, also 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grands and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
