Della Bradford

Mrs. W. L. (Della) Bradford, 90, a lifelong resident of Matagorda and Bay City passed away at her home in Bay City July 17. Survivors include: one son, Lunn Gilmore of Bay City. Mrs. Bradford was a member of the First Methodist Church and of the Eastern Stars and Rebekah’s. Funeral services will be held July 18 at 4:30 p. m. at Taylor Brothers chapel with the Rev. Wayland Elmore of the First Methodist church officiating. Interment will be in Matagorda cemetery. Pallbearers are: A. G. Ferguson, R. B. Webb, E. C. Smith, C. O. Middleton, James H. Cheatham, Frank Hattenbach; honorary pallbearers are: E. L. McDonald, J. C. Lewis, P. R. Hamill, Frank Lewis, M. L. Hale, Charles Weaver, C. R. Bell and Dr. Charles Shoultz. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Vicky Boman Broomfield

Funeral services for Vicky Boman Broomfield, 40, of Houston will be held at 2 p. m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999 at the Matagorda United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dottie Dumas officiating. Interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery.

Broomfield died Monday, Sept. 20 1999. She was born April 29, 1959 in Pasadena, Tex. to William R. and Norma Chandler Boman.

She was a dispatcher for Gulf Coast Delivery Services in Houston.

She is survived by: her parents of Houston; husband, Kenneth Gibby of Matagorda; daughters, Julia and Rod Till of Ala., Kendell Gibby of Houston, and Cidney Talasek of Bay City; sons, William Cody Webb of Houston, Spencer Webb of Matagorda; brothers, Rick Boman of Dickinson and Steve Boman of Austin; and one grandchild, Dylan Till of Ala.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Doris Rhodes Brousard

Memorial services for Doris Rhodes Brousard will be held at 3 pm Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Matagorda.

Mrs. Brousard was born Sept. 18, 1919 in Matagorda and died Oct. 9, 1986 in Aurora, N.C. where she resided the last 20 years. 

She is survived by her husband, Donald V. Brousard; five children, Natalie Morton, Donna L. Spain, Donald Brousard Jr., Douglas and Dana Brousard; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  In Lieu of flowers, the family requests all remembrances be sent to cancer aid funds.

Douglas Broussard
Boy Drowns in River At Matagorda Sun.

Douglas Broussard, age 17, was drowned at the mouth of the Colorado River at Matagorda Sunday.

Broussard, who was fishing with Joe and B. J. Patterson, decided to swim the river, carrying his fishing tackle. He became entangled in the fishing cord and drowned before rescuers could reach him. His body was found an hour and ten minutes after he went under.

Bess Margaret Moberley Brown

Funeral services for Bess Margaret Moberley Brown, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church in Matagorda, Texas, with her pastor, The Rev. Kay Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow in Matagorda Cemetery. Her grandsons, Neil, Lynn, Mark, Robert, Craig, and David will serve as pallbearers.

Bess Brown was born Sept. 9, 1904, in Matagorda. She died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at home. Bess Brown was a loving wife, homemaker, caregiver, and friend to many. She was Bess to much of the family, Peggy or Aunt Peggy to friends, nieces and nephews. She was Mother to her children and Honey to all the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Brown was receded in death by her husband, Mack Newton Brown; one son, Robert Bomar Brown; grandson, Randall Wayne Brown, and her sister, Eileen Patterson.

She is survived by: two sons and their wives, Mack Neil and Mary Helen Brown of Rosenberg, and Wayne D. and Katherine Brown of Alvin; seven grandchildren and their wives, Neil and Marci Brwn, Lynn nd Mary Brown, Mark and Peggy Brown, Johnna and David Little, Robert and Debby Brown, Donna Gail Brown, and Craig and Julie Brown; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Oscar Rucks Moberley and wife, Doris; and numerous nieces and nephews; she also leaves a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Matagorda, Texas.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, between the hours of 5-9 p.m. at the Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel in Rosenberg.
