Louise Williams Cheek

Funeral services for Louise Williams Cheek, 87, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Matagorda and Bay City, will be held 2 p. m. Wednesday at Christ Episcopal Church, Matagorda, with the Rev. Hugh Jones officiating. Burial will be in Matagorda Cemetery.

Mrs. Cheek was born Aug. 17, 1901, in Matagorda to William E. and Margaret Baxter Williams and died Oct. 29, 1988, in Indianapolis.

She was a member of the Episcopal church.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Niss of Indianapolis; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Houston Cheek, in 1984.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Mr. Sam H. Cheek, 85, of Bay City passed away at Matagorda General Hospital today. Services are pending at the Bay City Funeral Home under the direction of Dick R. Elkins.

Jack Owen Clark

Jack Owen Clark, 83, of Bay City, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996 at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was born on Feb. 16, 1913 in Houston, Tx to Charles and Nonie Harris Clark. He had been a resident of Matagorda, Tx for 30 years and was retired from shrimping. He is survived by his wife, Marie Josephine Clark, of Bay City, by one daughter, Dorothy Anderson of Santa Fe, and by a step-daughter, Billie Jo Harkey of Van Vleck. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jimmy Lee Anderson of Santa Fe and Spring Suza of Santa Fe, by great grandchildren, Lindsey Marie Anderson, Mark Cervantes and Troy Suza, all of Santa Fe, by step-daughter, Becky Dziuk of Sugarland, and by a step-great grandson, Michael Dziuk of Sugarland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 1996 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Vickers officiating. Interment will be at Matagorda Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, TX.

Jo Thornhill Clark

Jo Thornhill Clark, 89, of Bay City died February 13, 2004 at the Bay Villa Health Care Center. Mrs. Clark was born April 27, 1914 in Matagorda, TX to the late Frank Charles and Addie Zipprian Bruce. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, the Eastern Star and a life long resident of Matagorda before taking residence at the nursing home. For many years she owned and operated the Thornhill Washateria in Matagorda, TX.

Survivors include: Daughter & son-in-law: Billie Jo & Tommy Harkey of Van Vleck; granddaughter: Becky Dziuk & her husband Jeffrey of Sugar Land; and 2 great-grandchildren: Michael Dziuk and Rachel Dziuk also of Sugar Land; Very Special Friend: Cilla Huke, Luling, TX. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband William G. Thornhill, Jr. & 2nd husband Jack Clark, and brother, Russell Bruce.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, February 16, 2004, at Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda with Revs. Harley Savage & Lawrence P. Gwin officiating. Interment will be at the Matagorda Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church or to Hospice Support Care, Inc., 1102 N. Mechanic, El Campo, TX 77437. Arrangements with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City (979) 245-4613.

John Edward “Ed” Clarke

A memorial service for John Edward “Ed” Clarke Jr., 72, of Bay City is scheduled for 1 p. m., Dec. 6 at Kingdom Hall with Fred Perez officiating. Burial was Friday, Nov. 28 in Matagorda Cemetery.

Ed Clarke died Nov. 26 at Seabreeze Nursing Home after a short illness. He was born July 27, 1925 in Houston, Texas to parents John E. and Alma Andrau Clarke. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was retired from Phillips Petroleum Company and was a member of the Jehovah Witness Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen O. Clarke in December of 1996. Survivors are very close friends, Mark and Susan Christian, Brandon and Jacob and the Theo and Barbara Sue Krenek family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.
