Louis Dexter Mathis

(October 12, 1936 - November 30, 2012)

Louis Dexter “Toby” Mathis, 76, of Liberty Hill, Texas, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Georgetown Regional Medical Center. Toby was born on October 12, 1936 in Wharton, Texas to parents, Wilford and Bertha Dial Mathis. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ann Spurgers of Liberty Hill, Texas and Sharon Marie Mathis of Edna, Texas, a sister, Jurilene Murphree of Georgia and 5 grand children and 11 great grandchildren. His parents and two brothers, Buford and Mike Mathis, preceded him in death. As per his wishes, there will not be a visitation and he will have a graveside service at the Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda, Texas on Monday, December 3, at 2:00 PM with Bro. Brent New officiating. Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

Marianne Serrill Mathis

Funeral services for Marianne Serrill Mathis, 51, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church of Matagorda with the Rev. Jack S. Lowrey officiating. Burial will be in Matagorda Cemetery.

Mrs. Mathis died Nov. 22, 1984. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Matagorda.

Survivors include her husband, Louis Mathis of Matagorda, and a brother, Richard Serrill Jr. of Matagorda.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins of Bay City Funeral Home.

Mrs. Annie Louise Maynard Dies Suddenly at Home Here

Mrs. Annie Louise Maynard, life-long resident of Matagorda County, died suddenly last evening about midnight at her home on 1516 Austin St. Mrs. Maynard had earlier in the evening visited with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Smith and had left for her home about 8 o’clock. She had been in ill health but her illness had not been considered of a serious nature.

Mrs. Maynard descendant of an old line of Matagordians, was born in Big Hill, later known as Gulf, Texas, five miles east of Matagorda. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Williams. Mrs. Maynard lived in Matagorda and Bay City most of her life with the exception of a few years in Denver.

She is survived by her husband, E. P. Maynard of Bay City; one son, E. P. Jr., and one daughter, Mrs. Calvin Smith. Two grandchildren also survive, as three brothers, Darwin, Willie and Charles Williams of Matagorda, and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph P. Parris of Austin and Mrs. Laura Emmell of Houston.

Services will be from the Episcopal Church in Matagorda Saturday afternoon at 5:30 with burial in Matagorda Cemetery. Taylor Bros. Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Annye Williams Maynard Are Held Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. E. P. Maynard were held Saturday at the Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda with the Rev. M. Lindgren, pastor of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Freeport, officiating.

Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. C. W. Smith of Bay City; one son, E. P. Maynard Jr. of Lake Jackson; two sisters, Mrs. J. P. Parris of Austin and Mrs. L. C. Emmell of Houston; three brothers, W. E., C. P., and S. M. Williams of Matagorda.

Pallbearers were Preston Williams, C. P. Williams Jr., Jimbo Williams, Sam Cheek, Dinsmore Williams and Tula Serrill.

Final Rites Held Tuesday Here For Preston Miller, 58

Funeral services for Preston Miller, 58, of Matagorda were held Tuesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with burial in the Matagorda Cemetery. The Rev. S. E. Myers of Boling conducted the services.

Mr. Miller reportedly took his own life Monday. He is survived by one son, Mr. Fred Johns of Newgulf, and one brother, Ray Miller of Boling.
