Alta Faye Sewell

Funeral services for Alta Faye Sewell, 70, of Sweeny will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday, June 6, 1999 at First Baptist Church of Sweeny. Interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda.

Mrs. Sewell was born March 4, 1929 in Matagorda to Dena Bell and Charlie Roy Williams. She died Thursday, June 3 in Sweeny. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sweeny and taught school for 35 years at Sweeny Elementary School. She received her degree in Education from T. S. C. W. in Denton and her Masters of Education from the University of Houston in Houston.

Mrs. Sewell is survived by her husband of 43 years, Earnest C. Sewell of Sweeny; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Sandy Sewell of Brazoria; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Mike Staton of Clute, Janis and Davis Ososkie of Tallahassee, Fla. and Nanci and Donnie Glover of Lake Jackson; sister, Ruth Puckett of Abilene; brother and sister-in-law, Charlie D. and Martha Williams of Palestine; and by ten grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the National Kidney Foundation.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Ada Luddington Shannon

Funeral services for Mrs. Ada Luddington Shannon, 77, of San Francisco, California, will be held Thursday, August 15, 1996, at noon, in the Chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City, with Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda.

She was born n Matagorda Jan. 18, 1919, to Lee Luddington and Yetta Luddington, and passed away Saturday, August 3, 1996, in San Pablo, California.

Shannon was married to Willie Shannon of Palacios, the son of John Shannon and Sylvia Rivers Shannon. They later moved to Los Angeles, California, where she resided 40 years. She later moved to San Francisco where she made her home with her niece, Marva Luddington Tanner.

Survivors include one brother, Floyd Luddington of Bay City, and one aunt, Mrs. Lena Baines Robbins of Matagorda. Also a host of nieces and nephews which include her niece and nephew-in-law with whom she lived, Mrs. Marva Luddington Tanner (& George, Jr.) and family, San Francisco, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Willie Shannon.

Active pallbearers will include J. W. Brown, Sammie Lee Smith, Curtis Franklin, Greg Plummer, Mike Smith, III and John Love.

Honorary pallbearers will include George Tanner, Jr.; Floyd Luddington, Robert Windle and Calvin Luddington.

Reba Smith Sherrill

Funeral services for Reba Smith Sherrill, 88, of Bay City were Monday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel and Bro. Gene Polvado minister of the Abell Street Church of Christ officiated. Burial followed at the Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda.

Reba Serrill passed away Nov. 27 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was born July 11, 1909 in Coushatta, Louisiana to George Alonzio Smith and Louvenia Sherwin Smith.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James Robert “Bobby” Sterry and Mary of Boling and Christopher William Sterry and Trish of Bay City; by a sister, Georgia Northcutt of Dayton, Texas; and by four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers included Michael Sterry, Bret Leatherwood, Lee Cox, C. W. “Chris” Sterry Jr., Audie Lee Northcutt and Hartzel Sherrill.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Elijah Simons, 67, Rites Are Held Here Wed. Afternoon

Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 p. m. Wednesday for Elijah Arnold Simons, 67, who died Tuesday at Matagorda General Hospital. Mr. Simons was a resident of Matagorda. Services were held at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City with Rev. Jack Perce of Houston officiating. Interment was in Matagorda Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lena Marie Simons at Matagorda; eight daughters, Mrs. Marie Bowman of Matagorda, Mrs. Arzella Brumbellow of Kemah, Mrs. Iown Chandler of Matagorda, Mrs. Arnelia Fredrich of Clue, Mrs. Lois Howard of Clute, Mrs. Lillie Bullin of Clute, Mrs. Elsie Fay Tevehouse of Clute, Mrs. Addie Jewel Daiton of Fort Worth; five sons, Arnold Simons of Houston, Thurston Simons of Alta Loma, Vergil, John and Carrol Simons, all of Matagorda; three sisters, Mrs. Rosie Green of Houston, Mrs. Pawnee Allison of Houston, Mrs. Lillian Belvin of Houston; three brothers, Bert Simons of Fort Worth, George Simons of Tomball and Homer Simons of Houston.

Alice Barbara Smith

Funeral services for Alice Barbara Smith, 51, of Matagorda, will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Milton McWilliams officiating. Burial will be in Matagorda Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was born June 8, 1933, in Gulf, Texas, and died Dec. 9, 1984, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Houston.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Smith of Matagorda; mother, Vera Gottschalk of Matagorda; daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Michael Smith of League City; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Yeamans, Bill Russell, John Kemp, Gene Lawhon, Larry Waite and Ed Hauk. Honorary pallbearers include Murry Watkins, Alvin Smith, Tom Ward, Clancy Baxter, Doug Havard and Ray Culver.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.
