Julia Hodges Wadsworth

Mrs. Julia Hodges Wadsworth, wife of W. B. Wadsworth, departed this life on Monday, April 10th, 1899, at the close of the day, after a lingering illness of several weeks. Mrs. Wadsworth was a member of the Episcopal church, an earnest, lovely Christian, first in every good word and work of her church and town. Endowed with rare gift of heart and mind she shone in every sphere of life; and departing she leaves a vacant place in the hearts and lives of her relatives and many friends that can never be filled. Our hearts go out in sympathy and sorrow for the husband and little son in their great loss of wife and mother. But they have the blessed consolation of knowing that she is so faithfully served, and is waiting and watching to welcome them to their home above.

Football Is Fatal To Gulf Youth, 16

Gulf, Oct. 22.—Leonard “Sleepy” Walker, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Walker of Gulf, was fatally injured in the high school football game here Friday afternoon between Gulf and Angleton. It is thought he was injured early in the game, as no one saw the accident, and it was not known until he collapsed.

He was taken to the hospital immediately after collapsing and never regained consciousness. Death came at 11:45 a. m. Saturday as the result of concussion of the brain.

The entire community, as well as the high school body, is aroused over the death of this young man, and it is thought probable that the football team will disband for the year on account of the accident.

Besides his parents, he is survived by several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Sunday with interment in Matagorda.
