William W. Watkins

Bay City—Funeral services for William Wilburn Watkins, 82, of Newgulf, are to be held Tuesday at 2 PM at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

The Rev. Ben Roper will officiate. Masonic graveside services will be in the Matagorda Cemetery.

Watkins, a retired Texas Gulf Sulphur Co. employee, died Sunday at Newgulf.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lela Gottschalk Watkins; one daughter, Mrs. Rita? Gubbles of Tilden; one son, Wilbourn Gottschalk of Newgulf; and one sister, Mrs. Della Bradford of Bay City.

Willie Belle Watkins

Funeral services for Willie Belle Watkins, 77, of Bay Villa in Bay City will be held 3 p. m. Nov. 13 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Guy Pry officiating. Burial will be in Matagorda Cemetery.

Watkins was born June 26, 1907, in San Marcos and died Nov. 11, 1984, at Bay Villa.

Survivors include: mother, Mrs. Maud Pack of Franklin, Texas, son, Billy F. Watkins, of New Gulf; sisters, Katie McLaughlin of Bay City and Beulah Mathews of Franklin, and Jeanette Martin of San Antonio; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers include R. L. Vordick, Wayne Herrington, Ed Herschap, Robert Fulton, John Talbort and Clinton White. In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to the Matagorda Cemetery Association or to the charity of your choice.

Randy Steven Watson

Funeral services for Randy Steven Watson, 48, of Angleton will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday, March 25, 1999 at First Methodist Church in Matagorda, Ronnie Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Matagorda Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p. m. Thursday, March 25 at the church.

Mr. Watson died March 19. He was a lifetime resident of the Brazosport area and served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Watson is survived by his son, James Steven Watson of Angleton; sister, Janey Nill of Clute; brother, Jimmy Dale Watson and wife Trudy of Rio Hondo, Tex.; nieces, Wendy Lorraine Tullier and Lisa Marie Watson; and nephew, Robert Wayne McFerran.

Pallbearers will be David Simons, jimmy Laws, Joe Davis, Mike Hall, David Frazier and David Vartec.

Ronald Lee Weaver
(June 3, 1951 - December 8, 2006)

Ronald Lee Weaver, 55 of Matagorda, passed away Friday, December 8, 2006. He was born June 3, 1951 in Donna, TX to Harold Lee Weaver and Margery Joan Findley Weaver. He was a resident of Matagorda since 1996 and was a veteran of the US Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was employed as a Lock Operator at the Colorado River Locks, Corp of Engineers, in Matagorda.

He is survived by his wife: Cathy Ann Weaver of Matagorda; his daughter: Wendy Walker of Matagorda; his sons: Michael Weaver of Canyon Lake, Paul Weaver & wife Crystal of League City and Sean Walker & wife Tina of Houston; by his sister: Cheryl Cunningham of Smithson Valley; his brothers: Larry Weaver of Wyoming and Tommy Weaver of Alvin; and by 6 grandchildren. His parents, Harold L. and Margery Joan Weaver, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. The interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda, TX. Military burial honors will be under the auspices of Philip H. Parker VFW Post 2438. Pallbearers will be Buddy Lacy, Don Hutchinson, Larry Weaver, Tommy Weaver, Mike Weaver, Paul Weaver, and Sean Walker.

Funeral services for Spencer Charles “Buddy” Webb II, 39, of Bay City will be held 10 a. m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Bay City with the Rev. W. D .Baker and the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.

Burial will be in Matagorda Cemetery, Matagorda.

A boat tribute will leave Allen’s Landing in Matagorda at 2 p. m. Tuesday.

Mr. Webb was born Dec. 9, 1948, in Houston to Spencer Charles and Theora Hudson Webb and died Nov. 7, 1988.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Vicky Broomfield of Bay City; mother, Theora “Tedo” Coleman of Port Lavaca; three daughters, Cydney Lee Webb of California, Margaret Nicole Webb of Houston and Julie Broomfield of Bay City; two sons, Spencer Charles Webb III of California and William Cody Webb of Bay City; grandmother, Carrie Hudson of Port Lavaca, a brother, Michael Webb of Houston; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

(March 20, 1929 - August 15, 2011)

Mardell Dewey West, 82, of Matagorda passed away August 15, 2011. He was born March 20, 1929 in Llano, TX to the late Irland Duey West & Gertrude Ophelia Moore West.

His wife, Virginia Nell West preceded him in death. Survivors include brother Ronald West & wife Margret; sister-in-law Gloria Fry; nieces Debra Glidden, Wilma Jean Fry, Rhonda Whaley, Mary Pulley & Wynell Gonzenbach; nephews Terry Don West, Randy Fry, Charles Ray King, Thomas West & Darrell West and a number of great nieces & nephews.

Funeral service was 2:00 PM Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Community Baptist Church in Matagorda with Bro. Mitch Sauls officiating. Interment followed at Matagorda Cemetery. Pallbearers were Reno Trevino, Luther Carroll, Charles Ray King, Thomas West, Darrell West, and Roger L. Pulley Sr.

Virginia Nell West
(February 16, 1929 - January 6, 2011)

Virginia Nell West, 81, of Matagorda, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2011 in Bay City. She was born February 16, 1929 in Brownwood, TX to the late Camel and Vera Wells Brantley. She worked many years as a Telephone Operator and a PBX Operator, was a long time resident of Matagorda, and was a member of Community Baptist Church of Matagorda.

She is survived by her husband: Mardell Dewey West of Matagorda; by her nieces: Connie (Dennis) Krause of Marble Falls, Debra (Rafferty) Glidden of Marble Falls, Wilma Jean Fry of Marble Falls, Rhonda (Kennon) Whaley of Auburn, AL, Mary Kathryn (Roger) Pulley of League City, and Wynell (Don) Gonzenbach of Austin; by her nephews: Randy (Sandy) Fry of Marble Falls, Charles Ray (Peggy) King of Navasota, Thomas West of Slidell, LA and Darrell West of Austin; by her sister: Gloria (Willford) Fry of Marble Falls; by her Brother-in-law: Ronald (Margaret) West of Auburn, AL; and by numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Community Baptist Church of Matagorda with Bro. Mitch Sauls and Bro. Luther Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda. Pallbearers will be Charles Hargroves, Thomas West, Charles Ray King, Darrell West, Karl Grimes and Roger Pulley.

Tommie Jean Westbrook

Tommie Jean Westbrook, 70, of Matagorda, died May 16, 2004, in Austin at her daughter's residence.

She was born October 26, 1933, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to the late Wayne and Bertie Stovall Weaver.

She lived a life of great love and compassion; she loved all and was loved by all.

Survivors include: husband of 54 years, Billy Westbrook of Matagorda; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Henry Clark and Brenda and Mike Ewing; sisters and brothers-in-law, Billie and Charles Ellis and Delores Freeman; six grandsons and their wives, Bill and Denise Westbrook, Barry and Leslie Westbrook, Renny Harvard, Russell Harvard, Michael Ewing and Stephen Ewing; one granddaughter and husband, Jerrilyn and Paul Raine; and one great-granddaughter, Ceralla Raine Lauryn Westbrook; also, many nieces, nephews and numerous others.

She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Westbrook.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday May 20, 2004 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, with the Reverends Martin Westbrook and Larry Macomber officiating.

Interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robby, Harold, Bill and Barry Westbrook, Sterling Kirk, Mitch Bow and Ronnie Fisher.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
