Edward Edgar Zipprian

Matagorda, May 13.—After a brief illness Edward Edgar Zipprian of this place died at the Gulf Hospital at 8 o’clock p. m. Saturday, April 23, 1927.

The remains were prepared for burial and placed in the Methodist Church here until Sunday afternoon. Rev. Odis Rainer, Baptist minister of Bay City, conducted the funeral services before a large gathering of relatives and friends who followed the casket to the cemetery where “Mother Earth” received the worn and emaciated body to her bosom to await the resurrection morn.

Exquisite hot house floral offerings from many friends manifested their esteem for this good man, and their deep sympathy for the bereft ones.

E. E. Zipprian was born at Big Hill, now known as Gulf, in 1878, and grew to manhood there.

He was the youngest of five children of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Zipprian. After his marriage in 1904, to Miss Minnie Belle Smith, also a native of Matagorda County, they took up their residence here and three children came to bless their home; viz: Edward Lewis, aged fifteen years; Mary Elva, aged five, and Evelyn, aged three.

Beside his wife and children surviving him are his aged father, three brothers, John, James and George Zipprian, and one sister, Mrs. Paul Billingsley, all of this vicinity except James Zipprian, who resides in Corpus Christi.

Mr. and Mrs. Zipprian both united with the Baptist Church several years ago and have been faithful in their belief up to the present time.

He was independent in land and cattle and for some time preceding his death had been much interested in the erection of a lovely modern bungalow home which was nearing completion at the time of his death and he was looking forward with pleasure to the day when he and his family should take possession. Indeed, he was so deeply concerned about the new home that he neglected his health and when the break came he had no strength to combat his illness and rapidly succumbed.

It is a great grief to his loved ones that he will never occupy the new home with them, in which they had all hoped to be so happy together but the assurance given from a wise, all-seeing Father, is that if they continue in the faith, the broken circle will again be renewed, by and by, in that eternal home where there are no more partings, no more sorrows, no more tears.

The entire community is in sincere sympathy with the bereft wife and children and the other members of his family in their great bereavement and he will be missed in our town for a long time.

Jacob Zipprian Died Suddenly
Prominent Stockman-Farmer Victim of Heart Failure
Buried In Matagorda

Special to The Tribune

Matagorda, Texas, Jan . 26.—Jacob Zipprian, aged 56 years, died suddenly at his home at Big Hill early Saturday morning, supposedly from heart trouble.

He lived with and took care of his aged mother and had been complaining of not feeling well for several days. After doing the morning chores about the place he came into the kitchen where his mother was and sat down, telling her he was feeling very badly. She went and straightened his room that he might lie down, and when she returned she found him lying in a crouched position against the wall. Realizing he had fallen and knowing she needed assistance to get him to his room, she hurriedly called to her nearest neighbor, Mr. Jesse Landrum, who came at once and as soon as he went to Mr. Zipprian he found that life was extinct.

He came to town and notified relatives and in short order several friends hurried to the scene and prepared the body for burial after which it was brought to town and place in the Episcopal church to await the arrival of the casket from Bay City.

Rev. R. S. Burke will conduct the funeral services at 2 o’clock this afternoon and he will be laid to rest beside his father who passed away many years to go.

Mr. Zipprian was a quiet, unassuming man of exemplary habits, a member of the Christian church and a devoted son. If he ever had an enemy it is not known.

Living the quiet life that he has he has naturally accumulated considerable property in cattle, land and cash, amounting to about $50,000.

Mr. Zipprian was born on Matagorda peninsula and lived there with his parents until after the ’75 storm which drove them to Big Hill, where they have resided ever since.

Besides his mother, four sisters and two brothers survive him, viz: Mrs. Andrew Eidlebach of Flatonia, Christian Zipprian of Big Hill, Willie Zipprian, Mrs. Fred Duke, Mrs. Gus Gottschalk and Mrs. John Dunbar of this place.
