Mrs. Vernie Lewis of Bay City visited in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Magee over the week-end. We were happy to have her in Sunday School again. Mrs. G. A. Duffy and Mrs. Maggie Hopper of El Campo were visitors in the Fred Cornelius home Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Chiles and Wyona Jean went to Houston Friday to attend the fat stock show, and visit relatives, returning Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Arl Hunt and baby daughter of Palacios spent the day here Sunday in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Woodson. Mrs. Abbie Anderson has returned home after an extended visit with her daughter, Mrs. Lester Bunge, and family at Garwood. While there she visited the fat stock show in Houston with them. Rev. Joseph Barton of Bellville, pastor of the Czech-Brethren Church, filled his regular monthly appointment here Sunday afternoon, holding service in the Methodist Church as usual. Mrs. W. K. Keller attended the Sub-District Meeting of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service, which was held in Markham Friday. In spite of the rainy day, quite a good attendance was noted, with several conference and district officers present. Mrs. Fred Cornelius spent Friday in Refugio, visiting her sister, Mrs. Lous Duhon and family. We are all on our tip-toes at the prospect of an oil well coming in here in the very near future. The town has been over-run lately with “least-hounds” and buyers of royalties, and some very good prices are being paid.

Mr. J. M. Woodson and family enjoyed a few days visit the past week from his uncle, Mr. W. A. Wigley and their daughter, Barbara Ann, from Gober, Fannin County. They were accompanied by Mr. Ray Caplinger. Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Wratislaw and Mr. Bobbie Schulze of Lake Charles, La., arrived Monday for a few days visit in the J. J. Kretschmar home. Mrs. Vincent Fromen, teacher of the first and second grades of our school, assisted by members of the P. T. A., entertained the children with a Valentine party Tuesday afternoon at the school house. Refreshments of ice cream and pink iced heart-shaped cookies, also popcorn were served to all present. Mrs. Maggie Hopper was honoree at a birthday party last Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. G. A. Duffy in El Campo. Those attending from here were Mrs. T. E. Cornelius, Mrs. A. W. Hurta and Nancy Carole, Mrs. R. E. Coffin, Mrs. W. A. Malick, Mrs. J. B. Bures, Mrs. Fred Cornelius, Mrs. L. L. Chiles, Mrs. W. K. Keller, and Mrs. Hoyt Johnson of Markham and small son. This was a happy occasion and Mrs. Hopper received many lovely gifts. The J. M. Marshall family moved last week to Huffan, where he was transferred by his employers, The Sinclair Refining Co. We regret losing this good family. Mr. and Mrs. John Ackerman and two children of El Maton spent the day here in the Herbert Green home. Other visitors there were Mr. Green’s uncle, Mr. Andy Green, and two brothers, Messrs. Kenneth and Donald Green, all of El Campo. Mrs. Jack Askew entertained the Home Demonstration Club last Wednesday afternoon at her home. Miss Alma Miller, Home Demonstration Agent and nine members were present. Mrs. W. O. Selkirk of Blessing was a pleasant caller on Mrs. W. K. Keller Thursday. Mrs. J. E. Fitzgerald and daughter, accompanied by Mrs. Frank Ray and baby drove to Aransas Pass Friday to visit in the home of their daughter and sister Mrs. C. W. Warren, returning Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Jack Askew left Thursday for Luling for a few days visit with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zapalac, accompanied by the Jerry Hlozek family of El Campo, drove to Corpus Christi Wednesday for a visit with relatives, returning Friday. Mrs. Wayne Cook and daughter of Corpus Christi spent last week here in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Warn. Mrs. A. W. Hurta invited a number of little friends in to celebrate her little daughter, Nancy Carol’s birthday last Wednesday afternoon; of course the mothers came too. Those present were Mrs. Vincent Fromen and Mary Vashti, Mars. Martin Herman, Mrs. A. V. Bosak, Mrs. E. E. Hurta and son, Marvin, Mrs. F. J. Hurta, Sammie, Susie, Billie and Frankie Joe, Mrs. V. O. Hale, Kathryn and Patsy, Mrs. J. T. Cornelius, Ardell and Juanita; Mrs. Steve Zapalac and Wyona, Mrs. J. E. Fitzgerald and Geraldine, Mrs. Elmer Cornett and Douglas of Clemville, and Mrs. Hoyt Johnson and Joice of Markham. Mrs. Hurta served refreshments of ice cream and cake to all present. Little Nancy Carol received many nice gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Peters were visitors in Victoria last week with their daughters and their families. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cornelius spent several days last week in San Antonio attending the Fat Stock Show. Mrs. J. T. Cornelius is in the hospital in El Campo, ill with pneumonia. We sincerely hope she will soon be convalescent. Miss Dora Fay Cornelius of Houston was an over-sight visitor here last week. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Wratislaw, and Mr. and Mrs. Welch of Palacios were visitors here Sunday evening in the Kretschmar home. Mrs. Jerry Biskup and Miss Evelyn Kretschmar spent the day in Houston Monday shopping and attending to business. Mrs. J. E. Rollins returned home Sunday from Lockhart where she had been the past two weeks attending the bedside of her mother, who is very ill. She reported her mother slightly improved when she left.

Mrs. John Sedlacek and son and Mrs. Bill Sedlacek and children of Gonzales, came Tuesday and remained until Thursday visiting their relatives, the A. W. and F. J. Hurta families. They were accompanied home by their mother, Mrs. Anna Hurta, who will spend a month with them. Mrs. W. T. Gunter Sr. of Palacios was a visitor here Thursdays. Midifield’s Birthday Club honored two of their members, Mrs. W. A. Malcik and Mrs. Edwin Kana, with a party Tuesday afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Malcik. Many lovely gifts were received by the honorees, and admired by all, after which refreshments of cake, tuna fish salad, and wafers, candy and coffee, were served by the hostess to the following members of the club: Mesdames J. B. Bures, Fred Cornelius, W. E. Keller, R. E. Coffin, T. E. Cornelius, L. L. Chiles, A. V. Bosak, Hoyt Johnson, Josie Cornelius, Maggie Hopper, and the following guests: Mrs. Joe Kana, Mrs. Anna Hurta, Mrs. F. J. Hurta, Mrs. F. J. Trojcak of El Campo, Mrs. George Knebel of Bay City. Midfields’ Home Demonstration Club held an all-day meeting at the schoolhouse Thursday, with a covered dish lunch at noon, both Miss Alma Mille, home demonstration agent, and Miss Thelma Wells, assistant agent, present, to teach the members the art of making Aluminum Trays. Seven members were present. Mrs. R. E. Buchanan enjoyed a few days visit from her sister, Mrs. Haley of Houston over the weekend. Mrs. D. P. Jordan and Mrs. Frances Thompson and two sons of Palacios were visiting her mother, Mrs. Abbie Anderson. We are glad to report that all of the pupils and teachers of this community, who were included among those of Tidehaven Consolidated Schools who were ill from food poisoning last Thursday, were able to resume their usual activities Monday. We are glad to welcome some new neighbors at The Sinclair Plant, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Yandell of Alice, who moved in Saturday. Mrs. Mary Macha came in from Robstown and spent the week-end here in her home looking after business interests. Mrs. Rosie Jurek of Galveston was a visitor at the home of Mrs. J. B. Bures Monday. Mr. Labay was in Austin last week to attend the state interscholastic basketball meeting held there. Mrs. T. E. Cornelius spent the day in Palacios Monday visiting old friends.

Mr. Marvis Mason of Amarillo spent several days here last week visiting in the home of his sister, Mrs. Jack Agnew. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fitzgerald and children are now residents in this community, coming from Pierce. They are occupying the Hlozek cottage. We extend our welcome to them. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Lassman of Victoria spent the day Sunday in the home of her parents here, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Agnew. Mrs. Steve Neuman was hostess last Thursday evening for a Stanley Party at the school house. Mrs. Conroy, agent, was present, and the following guests: Mrs. J. B. Bures, Mrs. W. A. Malcik, Mrs. R. E. Deffenbaugh, Mrs. F. A. McBride, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Coffin. Mrs. Neuman served a plate lunch consisting of sandwiches, cake, cookies and punch to all present, assisted by her daughter Wanda. Mrs. W. K. Keller attended a meeting of the Bay City Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy last Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Frank Carr in Bay City. Mrs. W. A. Malick has been ill with flu the past few days, and Mrs. Robert Bullard is able to be about again after a turn with it. We hope we can soon have some real warm and dry weather that will put an end to such illnesses. Mrs. Arl Hunt and baby son, Gallen, spent the weekend here in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Woodson. Arl joined them over Sunday. W. E. Masssoletti has gone to Lake Charles, La. where he has employment with an oil company. Mrs. Dorothy Shillings and three children of Port Lavaca spent Sunday here in the Fred Cornelius home. They also attended Sunday School, where Mrs. Shillings attended in her childhood. It was nice to see her and her young family. Some more new residents in Midfields are Mr. and Mrs. Sherrer from Clemville, who moved into the Macha cottage Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Neuman spent the day in Houston Sunday.

Miss Polly Nygard, who is employed in Bay City spent the weekend here in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Nygard. Mr. and Mrs. Will Malcik spent the day in Flatonia Sunday, visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Malcik. Mr. Joe Kana has been in the Nightingale Hospital the past week, but has sufficiently recovered to be brought home. We are all glad he is so much better of his illness. Mrs. Emmett Seale and two children spent last week in the home of her parents here, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Cornelius. They reside in Houston. Mrs. Fred Cornelius was ill last week, but we are happy to report her able to be about again as usual. Mr. and Mrs. Alton Richardson and daughter, and Mrs. Emmie Richardson, left Friday morning for a visit with relatives in Bonham and other north Texas towns. Mrs. J. P. Pierce of Palacios, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Terry Scarborough of Kenedy, and her little grandson, Terry Boy, were visitors in the home of W. M. Keller and wife Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Hurta and Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Bosak were the guests of Mr. F. J. Brhlik for a Sea-Foods dinner at The Green Lantern in Palacios last Saturday evening. Mr. David Yates of San Marcos spent the week-end here the guest of his friend, Mr. Allen Labay. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bullard visited their son Mr. Billie Bullard and family at Cedar Lane Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Glaze of Sargent were visitors Wednesday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bullard. Mrs. G. A. Duffy and Mrs. Maggie Hopper of El Campo were visitors in the Fred Cornelius home Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hurta and Nancy Carol spent Wednesday in Houston on business. Little Frankie Joe Hurta, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Hurta, was quite ill for several days last week, but is much better at this writing. W. E. Massoletti, who is employed in Houma, La., was home for a couple of days last week. He was called home to attend the funeral of his sister’s husband at El Campo. Mrs. Fred Cornelius attended a birthday party of Ganado last Monday honoring her mother, Mrs. L. M. Raleigh of that place. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hlozek and children of Ganado were here Friday visiting Mrs. Hlozek’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zapalac. Mrs. T. E. Cornelius spent last week in Houston, where she was called on account of the illness of her father, J. T. Davis. She left him much improved, however. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. McBride and children moved to Alcoa last Saturday where Mr. McBride has permanent employment. We are sorry to lose them from the community, and hope some one will soon occupy the nice little cottage they vacated. Our sympathy is extended to Mrs. J. L. Robbins in the death of her mother, Mrs. F. D. Martin, which occurred March 23rd, at her home in Lockhart. Mrs. Rollins had been attending at her bedside for sometime when she passed away. Mrs. Fred Cornelius, Mrs. L. L. Chiles and Wyona Jean, Mrs. Hoyt Johnson and children, Mrs. J. B. Bures, Mrs. W. A. Malcik, Mrs. R. E. Coffin, and Mrs. W. K. Keller, attended a birthday party at El Campo Saturday afternoon, honoring Mrs. G. A. Duffy at her home in El Campo Saturday afternoon, honoring Mrs. G. A. Duffy at her home in El Campo which was largely attended by relatives and friends. Rev. Keen, Methodist pastor, filled his regular appointment here Sunday evening. He was accompanied by his son, Robert Keen, and a Mr. Stone of Houston. Mrs. Keen was ill and could not accompany Brother Keen, and we always miss her very much when she does not come, and hope she soon will be well again. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Fitzgerald have purchased the Massoletti Grocery store and took charge at once. Mr. Massoletti will continue to operate the Café and Beer parlor, we understand. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Frick of Markham and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Richardson and Ann, and Mrs. R. Scherrer went to Houston Friday evening to visit a brother, Mr. Claude Johnson, who is seriously ill in the Veterans Hospital there. They returned Sunday evening. Mrs. Sally Adamson of Houston is here this week visiting in the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. L. Yandell. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Malcik and Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Hurta drove to San Antonio and spent the day Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Machac of El Campo and daughter, Mrs. L. E. Bouquet, were here Thursday to visit their son and brother, Dolphine Machac. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Carroll of Houston were visitors here Saturday in the W. G. Fitzgerald home. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Warren and baby of Aransas Pass were here recently in the J. M. Fitzgerald home. The Sunday School here will give an Easter program following Sunday School next Sunday, and the public will be very welcome. Mrs. Fred Cornelius, Mrs. L. L. Mrs. Otto Bram of Danevang and Mrs. Steve Dornak and children of Victoria visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peters, Tuesday. A. V. Bosak and Chas. Byers are on the sick list this week. Chas. Byers is confined to the hospital in El Campo. We wish them both a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kana, Mrs. W. A. Malcik, and Chas. Nemic Sr., attended the funeral of Raymond Bartosh Wednesday in Needville, Tex. Mr. Bartosh was a brother of Bill Bartosh who was a resident of this community for several years. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family. Mrs. R. E. Coffin spent Thursday in Sweeny with her daughter, Mrs. Ludwin Keller. Mrs. A. W. Hurta and Nancy Carol spent Thursday with her brother and sister, J. R. Guynes and family of Sweeny, Mrs. L. J. Nicholson and family of Clute, Tex., and Garland Guynes of Clute, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hardey and son Ronald visited Mr. and Mrs. Noel Fuller and son over the week-end. Mrs. W. K. Keller and Mrs. A. W. Hurta attended the Eastern Star and Masonic night given by the Rainbow Girls in El Campo Tuesday night. A beautiful initiation ceremony was carried out by the Rainbow Girls which was very impressive. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Eagen and Mickey of Houston visited friends here Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steffa and daughters, Thelma and Geraldine, of Crosby, visited friends here over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Mood and children of Galveston spent Friday and Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Malcik. The Home Demonstration Club met Wednesday with Mrs. Jack Askew, with the vice-president, Mrs. L. L. Cessor, presiding. The meeting was opened by repeating the Lord’s Prayer. Three new members were added to the roll. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mrs. Askew read the poem “My Prayer,” which she composed. A program and discussion of “Quick Fixed Dishes” was discussed. Refreshments of sandwiches, potato chips, doughnuts and coffee was served by the hostess. Mrs. Noel Fuller attended a 3-day district meeting for the home demonstration clubs in Galveston this week. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Malcik spent Sunday in Sublime, Texas, with Mrs. Malcik’s father, Mr. William Woytek. The Glascott Drilling Company is moving from this community to Long Mott, Texas. L. A. Campbell, who is a driller for this company, will be leaving as soon as all the rig is moved. Mrs. L. A. Campbell accompanied her daughter, Mrs. Cloydene Myrtle and Mrs. Kane to Corpus Christi for a few days visit. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Lyster of Chicago, Illinois, is visiting with Mrs. J. B. Bures this week.

Mr. and Mrs. K. B. White of Houston visited Mrs. White’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Keller Monday. Mrs. W. K. Keller attended the U. D. C. meeting Tuesday at the home of Miss Tenie Holmes in Bay City. Mrs. Chas. Peters underwent a tonsillectomy Monday at the Matagorda General Hospital. We are glad to report she is doing fine. Mrs. Oscar Marek and son of Victoria are spending the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Peters, and taking care of her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Dornak and sons of Victoria spent the week-end with Mrs. Dornak’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Peters. Mrs. L. L. Chiles and Mrs. I. E. Chiles were business visitors in Houston Thursday. Mr. H. J. Zahn had the misfortune of falling and breaking his wrist, while on duty at the Sinclair Station this week. Mrs. Maggie Hopper and Mrs. Dora Duffy of El Campo spent Wednesday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cornelius. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Malcik spent Sunday in Flatonia with Mrs. Malcik’s father, Mr. William Wojtek. Mr. Sidney Pecha of Ganado visited friends here Sunday. Mrs. Josie Cornelius of El Campo spent a few days in the J. T. Cornelius and R. Bullard home this week. Mrs. Herbert green honored her husband with a birthday supper Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fitzgerald and children and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Massoletti and Archie Bob were supper guests. Out sympathy goes out to W. E. Massoletti and family in the sudden death of his father, Tom Massoletti of Ganado Tuesday. The home demonstration club met Wednesday at the school house. After a short business session, Mrs. Noel Fuller gave a very interesting trip to Galveston and Mrs. W. A. Malcik gave the council report for the month. Orders for more aluminum trays were taken and one new member was added to the roll. Mrs. F. A. McBride and children of Port Lavaca spent the week with her mother, Mrs. R. E. Deffenbaugh. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Lewis spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Magee and family. Mrs. J. B. Bures was called to the bedside of her mother, Mrs. Rosie Brhlik of Houston, Saturday.

The Community was saddened Monday with the passing of a long time resident and friend, Mrs. Rozina Brhlik. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of this loved one. Mrs. Sophie Sedlacek and son, Clifton, visited with the A. V. Bosak family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Kana of Baytown and Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Mood and children of Galveston visited with relatives here Sunday and attended the American Legion picnic in Blessing. Rev. Josef A. Barton held his regular services here Sunday with a large crowd in attendance. Rev. Barton was accompanied by his wife and children and an aunt, Mrs. Mary Hegar of Temple. They were supper guests in the W. A. Malcik home and then returned to Nelsonville Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Knebel and baby of Houston visited relatives here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Schoelman visited relatives in Port Lavaca Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Bram of Danevang, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Marek and son, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Dornak and sons of Victoria visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peters Sunday. The community was saddened last Monday with the passing of Mrs. Rozina Brhlik. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of long time resident and friend, of this loved one. Little Tommy Newman underwent an appendectomy Sunday night at the El Campo Hospital. He was brought home Friday and is well on the road to recovery. Staff Sergeant John Kubela and Mrs. Kubela and baby visited Mrs. Kubela’s mother, Mrs. Matilda Macha, last week. Sergeant Kubela is an engineer in the Air Corps and is enroute to Europe. Mrs. Kubela wills stay at the home of her mother for an indefinite time. Hebert Buchanan has enlisted in the Marines and will leave June 5 to take up his duties. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hurta and children spent Sunday in Houston with Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Alexander and daughter. Paul and Raymond Hale of Houston spent the week-end with their sister, Mrs. R. R. Woodson and family. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Harris and family of Crosby are visiting the Noel Fullers this week. Jack Askew was a business visitor in Houston Saturday. Mrs. W. K. Keller spent Sunday and Monday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Jordan, and sister, Mr. and Mrs. K .B. White in Houston. Mrs. W. A. Malcik attended the funeral of her cousin in Needville Monday. Mrs. Annie Hurta, Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Bosak, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hurta and Nancy Carol spent Sunday in Gonzales with Mr. and Mrs. John Sedlacek of Temple, Texas. Mrs. Annie Hurta remained in Gonzales for a visit. The Home Demonstration Club met Wednesday at the school house with the agent, Miss Alma Miller. After the business part of the meeting was taken care of it was then turned over to Miss Miller, who gave a very helpful demonstration on laying, cutting, enlarging, and altering patterns. Also colors to suit your complexion were chosen by each person present. Miss Helen Alexander of Houston arrived here Saturday to spend her vacation with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. R Richardson. Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Fortenberry spent several days with Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Richardson this week. Mrs. George Genzer and son, Jerry, spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. V. O. Hale. Midfield has two cases of measles, so far as we know now. Susie Woodson has recovered now and Nancy Carol Hurta is still sick. Mrs. A. V. Bosak, Mrs. Edwin Hurta, and Mrs. Sophie Sedlacek spent Sunday in Gonzales with their mother and sister, Mrs. Annie Hurta and Mr. and Mrs. John Sedlacek and son. Mrs. Hurta suffered a light stroke Tuesday, but is better at this writing. We are glad to see Charles Peters out again after his siege of the mumps. Sergeant Eugene Kretchmar is visiting his family, John Kretchmar and Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Wratislaw. Mr. and Mrs. Larriner of Victoria visited with Mrs. Larriner’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Askew last week. Mr. and Mrs. Noel Fuller and Noel Jr. left Monday for a three –week vacation to Missouri and Arkansas. Mrs. Robert Bullard left Friday for Phoenix, Arizona, for a visit with her father. She will be joined there by her daughter and family, Lieutenant and Mrs. M. M. Teague. Technical Sergeant Max Allbrecht, wife and daughter, Jeanelle, of the U. S. Air Corps, stationed in London, England, are at home in Houston on a 45-day furlough, visited with Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Keller Sunday. Mrs. Allbrecht is a niece if Mrs. Keller. They were accompanied by Arthur Queen of Palacios and son, Clinton, of San Antonio. The Daily Vacation Bible School will begin Monday, June 12th at 8:45 a. m. The Bible School will be held in the school building and every child in the community is cordially invited to attend this meeting. It will run from Monday through Friday, June 12th at 8:45 a. m. Mrs. Ludurn Keller and children of Sweeny spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Coffin. Delphin Machac and A. V. Bosak spent Wednesday in Victoria with Delphin’s sister, Mrs. Leonard Bouquet. Delph is taking his vacation this week. Mrs. Bennie Knebel was hostess to a Stanley Party Friday night at the school house. Mrs. Conroy, demonstrator, from Bay City, gave a very interesting demonstration. The hostess served sandwiches, cake, and cokes to Mesdames: W. A. Malcik, A. V. Bosak, Steve Zapalac, R. E. Deffenbaugh, Milton Vavra and Henry Knebel. The Home Demonstration Club met Wednesday with Mrs. L. R. Cessor. After the business session Mrs. Ray Teat Jr. gave the Council report. Rally Day will be July 12th at the LeTulle Park. There will be a contest held for those entering a dress they have made. A game of dropping clothespins in a milk bottle was played, with Polly Nygard being the winner and receiving a jar of dewberry jam that Mrs. Cessor had made. Our next meeting will be held June 21st with Mrs. J. B. Bures and a demonstration on preparing food for the deep freeze will be given. After the many nice and useful gifts were opened and admired by the surprised bride, refreshments of cake, cookies and punch were served. Mrs. R. R. Woodson, Mrs. Arl Hunt, Mrs. Jack Woodson and Mrs. V. O. Hale attended the shower from here. We are sorry to report that Mrs. F A. McBride is confined to the nightingale Hospital again. Bible School opened Monday morning with 23 pupils enrolled. We are glad to have these pupils and hope we will have several more before the week is up.

Mrs. T. E. Cornelius was hostess to a joint birthday and watermelon party at her home Monday. The game was played seeing who could make the most words out of the word “watermelon.” Mrs. A. V. Bosak won the game and a crocheted pin cushion was her prize. After the many nice and useful gifts were opened and admired, the hostess gave each lady an apron and salt shaker as a souvenir. Mrs. R. E. Deffenbaugh underwent a major operation Tuesday morning and her daughter, Mrs. F. A. McBride underwent a major operation Wednesday morning, both in the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo. We wish them both a speedy recovery. Marshall Wayne Mason of Luling was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Askew this week. Lieutenant and Mrs. M. M. Teague and children arrived Friday from Newport News, Virginia, to visit with Mr. and Mrs. R. Bullard. Lt. Teague has been transferred to Corpus Christi and Mrs. Teague and children will remain here for a while with her parents. Mrs. F. J. Hurta surprised her husband with a birthday party Thursday night at their home. Games of Canasta, dominoes, and “42” were played and refreshments of sandwiches, cookies and drinks were served to about 30 guests. The Birthday Club honored Mrs. Hoyt Johnson with a birthday party at her home in Markham Friday. After the many nice and lovely gifts were opened and admired, refreshments of ice cream and cake were served to Mesdames Maggie Hopper, George Duffy, Josie Cornelius of El Campo, Fred Cornelius, L. L. Chiles, J. B. Bures, W. A. Malcik, A. W. Hurta of Midfield, and Miss Nina Hoffenheinz of Houston. Miss Minnie Pauline Nygard and Harold A. Lukefahr were married in the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City in 9 a.m. Monday, August 14th. Mr. and Mrs. Lukefahr will make their home in Bay City. The gin is in full swing here now, having ginned 341 bales of cotton up until Monday noon. Deffenbaugh are the proud parents of a new son, born August 23 at the Nightingale Hospital and weighing eight pounds, seven and one-half ounces. Ludwin and his family lived here for many years and in recent years had moved to Sweeny. Mrs. Keller is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Coffin, and Ludwin Keller is the nephew of W. K. Keller. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved family. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Labay have moved into their new apartment in Mrs. J. B. Bures home. Mrs. J. B. Bures and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kana attended the football game and the crowning of the rice festival queen in Bay City Friday night. Mrs. J. B. Bures honored her nephew, F. J. “Sonny” Brhlik, of Palacios, with a supper Tuesday night before his induction into the Army Saturday. Those enjoying the supper were Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Brhlik, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Brhlik of Palacios, Mr. and Mrs. George Knebel and children, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Kana and daughter of Bay City, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kana of Midfield. Sonny left Saturday for Camp Hood. L. M. Raleigh Is 81 Mrs. L. M. Raleigh of Ganado honored her husband on his 81st birthday Thursday with an open house. Among his friends and relatives attending this happy occasion were his daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Fred Cornelius and Mrs. L. L. Chiles, and a friend of the family, Mrs. W. K. Keller. Mrs. Cornelius Feted Mrs. Fred Cornelius was honored with a covered dish luncheon Saturday at her home, the occasion being her birthday. About 35 guests called to make this occasion a happy one. Fred Cornelius Injured Fred Cornelius met with a painful accident Friday when his hand was caught in the belt of his hay baler and one finger cut off and two badly crushed. Gerry Has Party Miss Geraldine Fitzgerald was honored with a birthday party Sunday at her home. After several games were played the gifts were opened and admired and the children sang “Happy Birthday” to Geraldine. Mason Askew is confined to the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo with a broken collar bone he received while practicing football at school Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Bosak and Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Keller spent Sunday and Monday in Houston with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Jordan, and her sister, Mrs. K. B. White. Mr. and Mrs. Bullard and children of Cedar Lane visited with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bullard Sunday. We were glad to have them with us in Sunday School. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Woodson visited with Mr. and Mrs. Keller in Port Aransas Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Kana of Baytown spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Malcik. David Yates has moved into the home of Mrs. J. B. Bures since the completion of her house. Mr. Yates is teaching in the Tidehaven School. Our sympathy goes to the family of Arthur Thomas of Blessing. Mr. Thomas has been a resident of Matagorda County for several years and had been employed as janitor in Blessing school for a number of years. His always happy smile will be missed not only by the school children, but by all who knew him.

Mrs. Fred Cornelius and Mrs. J. B. Bures were honorees at a joint birthday party Wednesday at the home of Mrs. J. B. Bures. Mrs. W. K. Keller had charge of the recreation. After several games were played, gifts were opened and admired. Delicious refreshments of chicken salad on lettuce leaf, Ritz crackers, angel food cake, and coffee were served. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Zapalac and Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Knebel were hostess to a stainless steel party Wednesday night at the school house. A delicious supper was served to about 35 guests and enjoyed by all. Mrs. Fred Cornelius visited with her mother, Mrs. L. M. Raleigh, in Ganado Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Rich Carbine of San Antonio visited in the Cornelius, Chiles, and Bures homes Saturday. Mrs. F. J. Hurta and Mrs. Betty Hendrix were in Victoria on business Saturday. Mrs. L. L. Chiles, Mrs. Hoyt Johnson, and Mrs. F. C. Cornelius were business visitors in Houston Monday. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hurta and Nancy Carol were in Houston on business Monday. A Bures family reunion was held Sunday in the home of Mrs. J. B. Bures. The Home Demonstration Club met Wednesday with Mrs. Fred Cornelius. Roll was called and the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Miss Miller gave the Council report and reported also that the County Home Demonstration Christmas party is to be held at the Prairie Center School on December 5. Mrs. L. R. Cessor made a motion that each one give a gift to be sent to the Austin State Hospital for both men and women. The meeting was turned over to Miss Miller, who showed the beautiful hammered aluminum trays and plaques. Mrs. Lowe of the McCroskey Club showed how to wrap and plait coat hangers. The hostess served chicken salad on lettuce leaf, cheese crackers, cookies, and coffee to Mesdames W. A. Malcik, W. K. Keller, L. R. Cessor, Rex Teat Jr., A. W. Hurta, Lowe, J. B. Bures, and Robert Bullard, and Miss Alma Miller. The Home Demonstration Club Achievement Day was held Thursday with the El Maton Club as their guests. Due to bad weather only one place was shown in the tour and that was the remodeled home of Mrs. Bures. Mrs. A. V. Bosak and A. V. Jr., Mrs. Sophie Sedlacek and Mrs. Theresa Sugarek spent Sunday in Gonzales with Mrs. Annie Hurta and Mr. and Mrs. John Sedlacek. Three of the deer hunters brought home their game the first day of the season Jim and Bob Fitzgerald each killing one and A. V. Bosak killing two. Mrs. Blake Garner spent the week-end with her sister, Mrs. R. E. Coffin and husband. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Cornelius are the proud parents of a baby girl born Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Mrs. J. M. Woodson is confined in the Rugeley Blasingame Hospital in Wharton for a while. She underwent surgery there Saturday. Her many friends wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Theo Krenek and Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Brhlik of Palacios attended the funeral at Woodsboro of Pete Michna. The Michnas were former residents of Midfield, and the community extending sympathy to the family. On Sunday, July 29, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Aikin of Woodboro were supper guests in the V. O. Hale home. Mr. Aikin is Mrs. Hale's brother. While in this vicinity the Aikins also visited the W. K. Kellers and another sister, Mrs. F J. Brhlik, and husband of Palacios. On the same date the Hale's also had dinner guests, Mr. and Mrs. George Genzer and two children of Bay City and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Woodson of Markham. Miss Kathryn Hale spent a day last week with her sister, Mrs. George Genzer in Bay City and several days with her brother, Riley, and family in Markham. Other recent visitors in the V. O. Hale home were Mrs. F. J. Brhlik, and her son, F. J. Brhlik, Jr. (Sonny), and family of Palacios. Miss Geraldine Fitzgerald spent most of last week with the Frank Rays in Bay City. Mrs. Ray is her sister. Jim Cornelius and his daughter, Juanita, had supper with the Dave Bolings of Palacios last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Kruger returned to their home in Houston last Thursday after spending a week with Mrs. Krueger's sister, Mrs. Theo Krenek. Mrs. Krenek has two of her grandchildren, little Annette and Michael Kana of Bay City with her for a few days, while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Kana, are on a business trip to Dallas and Ft. Worth. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kana had as week end visitors, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Pilgrim and children of San Antonio. Mrs. Pilgrim is their daughter, Georgia Ann. Mr. Robert Bullard returned Saturday night after a week's stay in Houston. While there he visited relatives and received medical treatment. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cornelius took their granddaughter, Wyona Jean Chiles, to Huntsville where she will attend "Twirling School." The Cornelius' spent Sunday night with Mr. and Mrs. Bishop in Huntsville. The Bishops were formerly of the Sinclair Plant west of Midfield.

Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Fitzgerald and daughter, Geraldine, accompanied another daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Tipton of Plainview, to Tyler. There they attended the revival being conducted by Bro. Oral Roberts and report a wonderful meeting. From there they went on to Spring, Okla., where they visited another daughter, Mrs. W. A. Roberts, and family. We are happy to report that Mrs. J. M. Woodson is home from the hospital. She has with her at present her two daughters, Mrs. Vernon Keller of Gallup, N. M., who arrived the day Mrs. Woodson underwent her operation, and Mrs. Eugene Rickaway of Bloomington, who arrived with her two small sons, James and Mark, a few days earlier. Mrs. Keller's mother-in-law, Mrs. Keller of Corpus Christi, visited in the Woodson home several days last week. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sedlacek of Cuero, were visitors in the Edwin Hurta home at El Maton Sunday. They were joined in the afternoon by the F. J. Hurta's, A. W. Hurtas and Albert Bosaks of Midfield, the W. H. Roberts and Lewis Hurta of Bay City, and Mr. and Mrs. George Hejtmanek and sons of Buckeye. A fourth baby daughter weighing 9 lbs. and 11 oz. was born to Mr. and Mrs. Nedbalek last Thursday night. Congratulations! Geraldine Fitzgerald had visiting her a few days, a niece, Priscilla Fitzgerald of Danevang. Visiting several days in the Robert Bullard home last week were Mrs. Verda May Teague and children of Corpus Christi. They were on their return home from visiting relatives in North Carolina and Indiana. While in North Carolina Mrs. Teague spent one week at Montreal attending a Leadership Training School for women of the Presbyterian Church. Herbert Buchanan has recently started working as an office manager for the A. W. I. Co. in Houston. He plans to attend classes at the University of Houston also. Mrs. M. J. Several of the Tidehaven football boys, Carrol Magee, Harold Green, and Bobby Neuman, visited Mr. Tex Kassen, former Tidehaven coach, at Beeville on September 2. Mr. T. H. Skinner is confined to the hospital in Victoria for medical treatment of a skin infection. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rickaway of Bloomington visited the J. M. Woodsons of Midfield and the Robert Rickaways of Blessing last weekend. We are glad to report that Mrs. J. M. The R. E. Buchanans had visiting them last week-end Mr. and Mrs. Arville Buchanan and three small daughters. Arville, Mr. Buchanan's son was a Midfield school boy not too many years ago. Members of the Midfield Sunday School were happy to have Arville and two of his little girls, Sharon and Gayle, in attendance at Sunday School Sunday. There they received a hearty welcome from a number of old friends. The writer wishes to correct a statement made recently in this column to the effect that Mr. Arville Buchanan and family are from Houston. They live in Spring, a small town on the other side of Houston. Mr. John Kretschmar returned Saturday from a visiting trip of several weeks duration. In Cameron he visited Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Eikenhaust and daughter, Kathlene and Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Koon. Mrs. Eikenhaust and Mrs. Koon are his sisters. He visited a cousin and her husband and some friends in Waco, and at Temple he enjoyed the company of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Eikenhaust and their two children and other friends. Upon his return home he found his older daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Wriatislaw, confined in the Palacios hospital for medical treatment. He also found his younger daughter, Evelyn, and family, the L. L. Richardsons of La., here for a short stay. Norman Green is attending a business college in Houston on Saturdays. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cornelius left Sunday morning for Houston where they will spend several days visiting relatives. While there Mr. Cornelius will have a medical checkup and may have to remain longer. During the absence of Mrs. Cornelius, Mrs. W. K. Keller will take care of the Post Office. Little Michael, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Kana of Bay City, is staying with his grandmother Mrs. Theo Krenek, while his mother accompanied by Mrs. Joe Kana are on a trip to Michigan. Following their regular monthly preaching services held in the Midfield Methodist Church, the Czech Brethren congregation enjoyed a 'covered dish' dinner and social period at the Midfield school building. Sunday the John Andersons of Lake Jackson visited in the Robert Bullard home. Carol, 9, and John Alan, 5, are spending this week here with their grandparents and Sharon, 11, is staying with friends in Lake Jackson while their parents are on a vacation trip to the Dominican Republic. Mrs. Fred Cornelius returned recently from a visit with a sister-in-law, Mrs. Julia Taylor and her daughter Mary in Aztec, New Mexico. She made the trip with another sister-in-law and husband, the Herbert Graybills of Houston. Mrs. Cornelius reports that they found their folks well and that they had a wonderful trip. Mrs. F. J. Hurta, who was quite ill last week and spent a couple of days in the hospital, is considerably improved. Visitors in the W. K. Keller home Wednesday afternoon of last week Mrs. D. P. Jordan and her two daughters, Mrs. Ed. Barrett and Mrs. Ben Blackburn and small son, all of Palacios. Mrs. Theo Krenek had visiting her several days last week a sister, Mrs. P. R. Coster of Alice, Texas. Mrs. Coster was on a return trip from Galveston, where she visited her daughter, Sandra Kay, who is taking nurses' training at John Sealy Hospital. Mrs. Jerry Kardstedt of El Campo spent Monday afternoon visiting Mrs. Theo. Krenek. Miss Betty Lou Fitzgerald celebrated her seventeenth birthday Sunday. Enjoying a birthday supper with her besides the home folks, were a sister and family, the Frank Rays of Bay City, and Tidehaven's Coach Aiken and family. Another Midfielder who celebrated a birthday recently is Mr. Albert Bosak. Visiting in his home last Thursday were a sister-in-law, and husband, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Roberts, and two nephews, Mr. Clifton Sedlacek and family and Mr. Earl Sedlacek and family, all of Bay City. Visiting and having dinner in the Fred Cornelius home Sunday were Mrs. Victor Fulton of El Paso, Mrs. T. H. Skinner, Mr. Dick Boling and wife of Rosenberg; Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Chiles and daughter Wyona of Brazoria; and Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Johnson and three children of Markham. This gathering was also in celebration of birthdays, as Mrs. Cornelius and Mrs. Skinner both put money in the "Birthday Jar" at Sunday School Sunday. Mrs. W. K. Keller was recently awarded the "silver loving cup" by the United Daughters of the Confederacy for winning first place in the state on a poem the topic of which was the life of General Robert E. Lee. This award was presented to Mrs. Keller in a meeting of the J. E. B. Stuart Chapter of the U D. C. at the Country Club, Wharton, last Wednesday. The Captain E. S. Rugeley Chapter, of which Mrs. Keller is a member, had been invited to be present for this special occasion. Congratulations, Mrs. Keller! Our community is indeed proud to have such a talented person as a resident. Note: A number have expressed the desire to read this poem, by Mrs. Keller, and we hope it may soon appear in print. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Kana of El Campo celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in St. Peters Church at Blessing Sunday. Father V. J. Bily read Mass for them. Dinner and the reception were in the National Hall at El Maton. Relatives and friends from various places were present at the happy occasion, and the couple were the recipients of many lovely gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Gonzales have visiting them their daughter, Lucille, her husband and baby of El Paso. Mrs. Tom Cornelius had as a guest in her home last week her father, Mr. J. T. Davis of Houston. Attending the Sweeny-Dickinson Football game at Sweeny last Friday night in which Sweeny beat Dickinson 54 to 0 were Mrs. Fred Cornelius and Mrs. Victor Fulton, accompanied by Mrs. Hoyt Johnson and Joyce of Markham. Their special interest in attending was to see Mrs. Cornelius' granddaughter, Wyona, in her role as one of the Sweeny cheer leaders. Wyona is serving their third year as cheer leader in the Sweeny High School. Mr. Fred Cornelius, in company of Daniel Cornelius of Markham, was in San Antonio and vicinity on business last Thursday. Mr. Thomas Skinner of Victoria visited his mother, Mrs. T. H. Skinner last Friday. Mr. Jim Cornelius spent last Thursday night in Houston. 'Twas a business trip. Business took John Carrio to Edna on Friday of last week. Mrs. F. J. Hurta and Mrs. Albert Bosak made a business trip to Schulenburg October 3. Mr. Garner, who is at present making his home with Mr. and Mrs. William Shindler, spent a couple of days last week in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bill Fitzgerald, at Collegeport. While there he had the privilege of visiting another daughter also--Mrs. Lucille Calloway of Cuero, and her small daughter. The Robert Bullards were happy to have their granddaughter, Frances, home Sunday. She is a student in Jefferson Davis Nursing School in Houston. Visiting in the Bullard home on Sunday evening were another granddaughter and family, the Donald Wells of Old Ocean.

Members of the Tidehaven Home Demonstration Club attending a meeting a meeting of the Matagorda County Federation of Women's Clubs held in the First Methodist Church in Palacios were Mrs. Fred Cornelius, Mrs. W. K. Keller, Mrs. Guy Washington and Mrs. Frank Matthes. The Tidehaven Home Demonstration Club sponsored a "Fun Night" in the Midfield Schoolhouse Saturday night. Games were led by Mrs. Martin Nelson and Priscilla Hurta assisted by Mrs. F. J. Hurta. Refreshments served were cookies, coffee, and punch. Eugene Kretschmar, who is employed by the Western Pipe Line Co. in the role of office manager, and who has been located in Port Lavaca for some time, has been sent to Tucson, Ariz. He will probably be out there about a year. Mrs. Abbie Anderson spent from Monday until Friday of last week with the Lester Bunge family of Garwood. Upon her arrival Monday she found her 10 years old grandson, Oscar, to be ill, but reports that he was considerably improved by the time she left. We wish him a speedy return to health. Saturday Mrs. Anderson spent the day with her son, Halley, and family in Palacios. Mrs. L. L. Chiles of Brazoria spent the day in the Fred Cornelius home April 8, and her husband was there a short while Saturday. Mr. Charles Beyer, who was taken ill Sunday April 7 and spent a couple of days in the hospital in Bay City, seems to be doing all right now. Mrs. Edgar Beyer was on the sick list last week. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. Beatrice Lejsal, of Houston, acted in the role of nurse for her. Mrs. Beyer is much better and it is hoped she will soon be feeling fine. Mr. Willie Schultz is in the Veterans' Hospital in Houston for care and treatment. Mrs. Robert Bullard and Miss Molly Bullard, accompanied by Lloyd McDaniel of Clute, spent the week-end with Mrs. Bullard's daughter, Mrs. Verda Teague and children in Corpus Christi. Mrs. Theo Krenek and Mrs. Allan Dabelgott attended a wedding shower for Miss Angeline Shasta in El Maton Sunday. A visitor in the W. E. Richardson home Sunday was J. O. Frick of Collegeport. Our sincere sympathy is extended to the Joe Kana's in the death of a cousin. Mrs. Jimmy Williams and two children of Palacios spent the week end in the home of her mother, Mrs. G. E. Magee. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hurta and Nancy Carol, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Roberts and Mrs. Albert Bosak visited Mrs. Arthur Lostak who is in the new Herman Hospital in Houston. She underwent surgery Sunday. Mrs. Lostak has best wishes for a speedy recovery. Mrs. F. J. Hurta took the Intermediate Class of the Midfield Sunday School to the Danevang Lutheran Church to witness the confirmation of Curtis Jensen Sunday.

Miss Betty Lou Fitzgerald is wished a speedy and complete recovery from a broken ankle which is keeping her pretty well confined at home for the present. Brother David Parsons dismissed his regular preaching services at the Midfield Methodist Church Sunday night because of the Baccalaureate Services at Tidehaven High School. Brother Parsons was in attendance at this service. The Baccalaureate program of the 1957 Class of the Tidehaven High School held in the High School auditorium, was very nice, Reverend V. J. Bily of the St. Peter's Catholic Church of Blessing preached the sermon, in which he stressed the importance of having the love of God in one's heart and loving one's neighbor as one's self. He cited the New Commandments as a code for living if one wishes to have a truly happy life, and gave a number of pointers which should be helpful to all who heard him. The Processional and Recessional as well as a special piano-organ selection were played by Mary Louise Kopecky. There were two special music numbers by the Senior Class Chorus, and a song by the audience. Supt. G. K. Nelson gave the Introduction, Rev. Robert E. Black gave the Invocation and Rev. A. W. McGregor, the Benediction. There was a happy family get-to-gether at the Midfield schoolhouse on Mother's Day. Present were Mrs. Grace Raleigh of Ganado, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Babcock and son from Galveston, Mrs. Louis Duhon of Refugio, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Kendal of Austin, the L. L. Chiles family of Brazoria, the Hoyt Johnsons of Markham and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cornelius of here. This is an annual affair. Mrs. Nelo Seaman, the former Miss Virginia Zapalac, and twins of Palacios visited in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Zapalac, Saturday night, May 11. Eugene Kretschmar, who is employed as office worker by the Western Pipe Line Co., and who has recently been on a job at Tucson, Ariz., is now in Dryden, Ontario. Miss Peggy Nygard, bride-elect of Travis Harrison, was honoree at a miscellaneous bridal shower given in the Midfield Schoolhouse, Wednesday, May 15, at 7:30 p. m. Miss Nygard received many lovely and useful gifts. Refreshments of cake, sandwiches and punch were served. Mr. Robt. Bullard visited his daughter, Mrs. Boyd Foltyn, at her home near Tintop Wednesday of last week. Mrs. John Anderson and children and Harriet Henson of Lake Jackson paid Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bullard a visit last Saturday. Visiting in the Robert Bullard home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Bullard of Sheridan.

The Ripper reunion was held at the Midfield school house on May 26. Mrs. Charles R. Beyer celebrated her birthday and Viola Mueher of Weimar also had a birthday that day. Beyer, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Beyer and family, Mrs. Theresa Krenek, all of Midfield; from El Campo, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Knebel and family; from Bay City, Mr. and Mrs.. Don N. Baker and Mr. and Mrs. George F. Knebel and Margaret; from Palacios the Bill Jenkins family; from Houston the Eddie Knebel family, Mr. and Mrs. John Lejsal and family, Leo E. Muehr, Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Grobow; from Columbus, A. J. Brune Jr., and family; from Weimar, Mr. and Mrs. Rud Muehr, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Muehr, Mr. and Mrs. William Show and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Wanjura and family, Mrs. Leo Horak and children, Mrs. Louise Ripper and Mr. and Mrs. Fred F. Beyer and family. Basket lunches were brought by those attending and everyone enjoyed the day. Quite a number of Midfielders attended the wedding of Miss Peggy Nygard and Travis Harrison which took place in the First Presbyterian Church in Bay City and the Reception which followed and was held in the Morocco Room. Miss Juanita Cornelius of this community was one of the bridesmaids, and the bride was given away by her father, L. C. Nygard, also of this community. The Midfield Methodist Church had their vacation Bible School this week with about 309 in attendance. Regular Czech-Brethren Church services were held in the Midfield church followed by a covered dish dinner at the school house. Bro. David V. Parsons, the Methodist minister, has been returned to the Markham charge for another year. The community welcomes back Bro. Parsons and his fine family.

Mr. and Mrs. Haines Morgan of Houston were weekend visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Karie Bilbrey and Mrs. W. T. Roberts. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Johnson of Wharton were calling on the W. E. Richardson family Sunday and attended church services here that evening. Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Dodd and children of Bay City were visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Coffin Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Cessor are having some improvements added to their residence here. Mr. and Mrs. John Williams and Mrs. Mary Berry of Houston, spent the weekend in the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Cornelius, the parents of Mrs. Williams. Mrs. Cornelius' father, Mrs. J. T. Davis, also of Houston, is here for an extended visit in the Cornelius home. Mrs. F. J. Hurta attended the American Legion Auxiliary meeting in West Columbia Sunday. She represented the Blessing Auxiliary. Mrs. L. L. Chiles of Brazoria and Mrs. Hoyt Johnson and daughter Dianne [Deean?] of Markham spent the day Monday with their mother, Mrs. Fred Cornelius. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bullard were Lake Jackson visitors recently. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Zapalac and little daughter of Flatonia spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zalapac, who are Raymond's parents. Mrs. Theo Krenek, and F. J. Brhlik of Palacios went to Houston Wednesday to visit their brother-in-law, Mr. Anton Bosak who is confined to the San Jacinto Hospital. Mr. Bosak was stricken with a heart attack. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bullard were in El Campo and attended the Civil Defense Demonstration given that day, when they reported as unusually well executed. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Talafuse of Garwood were Sunday visitors in the W. E. Richardson home, and attended evening services in our church. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Emmert and children of Houston spent the holiday here Monday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Cornelius. Mr. and Mrs. Karie Bilbrey have begun erection of a building across the street from the Post Office, and will put in a stock of groceries. F. J. Hurta is the contractor. We are glad to see our town growing. Several new homes have been constructed in recent months--the spacious and lovely new brick residence now nearing completion for Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cornelius, will be quite an addition to our town. Miss Leona Valigura of Ganado, bride-elect of Mr. Norman Green who is one of our promising young men, was honoree of a miscellaneous shower in the Community Center here Monday evening. The hostesses for the happy occasion were: Mrs. T. E. Cornelius, Mrs. W. E. Richardson, Mrs. A. V. Bosak, Mrs. A. W. Hurta, Mrs. Don Schoelman, Mrs. F. J. Hurta, Mrs. Jack Woodson, and Mrs. F. B. Ward. This lovely affair was well attended and the honoree received many nice and useful gifts. The wedding of Miss Valigura and Mr. Green will be an early event in May. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Keller and son Kerry of Sweeny and Sue Keller of Bay City visited Monday in the home of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Coffin. Mrs. Theo Krenek, Mrs. Joe Kana, and Mrs. Charlie Nemec Sr. attended the K. J. Z. T. District meeting in Nada Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dusek of Granger spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Malcik. Mrs. Dusek and Mrs. Malcik are sisters.

Mr. Robert Bullard made a business visit to Bay City and Sargent Monday of last week. Mrs. Victor Fulton of El Paso has been a visitor in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cornelius the past ten days. Mrs. Fulton lived in Midfield when a young girl and friends here are always glad to welcome her back. Mr. Jim Walleck of San Antonio, was a visitor in the A. V. Bosak home from Thursday to Saturday. He too was a resident in this community some years ago. Mrs. J. C. Sexton and Mrs. Ed Barrett were visitors in the Keller home Wednesday, from Palacios Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Rhodes and Mrs. P. R. Dawdy of Blessing were also visitors there the same day. We were happy to have our new District Superintendent, Rev. Palmer of Corpus Christi, preach for us Sunday morning at the 9:00 o'clock servicde; and for the opportunity of making his acquaintance. He also preached at 11:00 o'clock in the Markham Methodist Church and conducted the first Quarterly Conference of this year in Clemville at 2:30 p. m. Officials from this church attending the conference were Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hurta, Mrs. W. K. Keller, Mr. R. E. Coffin, Mr. Roy Buchanan, and MIss Nancy Carol Hurta. Mrs. Mary J. Cornelius of El Campo, who spent several weeks in Nightingale Hospital after udergoing major surgery, is spending awhile in the J. T. Cornelius home here while she regains her normal strength. Friends are glad to know she is going well. Mr. J. T. Davis of Houston is here for a visit with his daughter, Mrs. T. E. Cornelius and Mr. Cornelius. Mrs. Herbert Green enjoyed a birthday dinner in her honor Friday evening. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nelson of Bay City, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Green and Mr. and Mrs. Conley Green of El Campo. Mrs. Green was the recipient of a number of nice gifts. Mrs. Abby Anderson spent from Monday to Thursday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lester Bunge and family in Garwood. Mr. and Mrs. Conley Green, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Green, and Mrs. Wayne Green, all of El Campo, spent the day here Sunday, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Green. Harold Green and "Sonny" Hale left Sunday for Sweetwater, in West Texas where they will be employed in a cotton gin. Mrs. Abby Anderson was in Palacios Friday afternoon to help her two small grand children, H. T. Jr., and "Sissy" to celebrate a joint birthday party in the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Halley Anderson. Mr. Karie Bilbrey, accompanied by his wife, went to Galveston Monday where he entered John Sealy hospital for a routine checkup. Mrs. Bilbrey returneed home Tuesday. Mrs. Jack Ellis nee Marjorie Fitzgerald, a recent bride, was honored Monday evening with a miscellaneous shower held in our school building beginning at 7:30. The hostesses, Mrs. T. E. Cornelius, Mrs. Karie Bilbrey, Mrs. Herbert Green, and Mrs. A. W. Hurta were in charge of the social hour and the refreshments which was enjoyed by all present. The honoree received many lovely and useful gifts, which were stacked on a long table covered with white cloth, and held vases containing crepe myrtle blooms. After the gifts were opened and admired by all present, refreshments of sandwiches, cake and cold drinks were served. Out of town guests were the groom's mother, Mrs. Ellis, and her four daughters of Bay City.

Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Hurta and Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hurta motored to Gonzales Wednesday to spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. John Sedlacek and son. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hurta and children were guests for dinner Sunday in the A. V. Bosak home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bullard visited his daughter, Mrs. Boyd Foltyn, whose home is near Collegeport Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sembera of Inez were guests in the A. V. Bosak home Friday. Mrs. Sembera is Mr. Bosak's niece. Our church service held at the nine o'clock hour Sunday morning was better attended than usual, and the Sunday School attendance was especially larger. Mrs. Martin Nelson and Mrs. W. K. Keller represented the Tidehaven Home Demonstration Club at the county federation meeting in Bay City Saturday. They report a good attendance and an excellent program for the day. The Pilot Club of Bay City was host. Wednesday night a meeting was held in the Midfield school for a demonstration in first aid methods. The meeting was sponsored by home demonstration agent, Mrs. Dawn Duncan for both the boys and girls of the Tri-Community 4-H Clubs. There were 32 persons who attended in spite of the severe cold and several older people who assisted with the drills in which P. A. McLendon was the instructor, he was assisted by Eddie Douglas, assistant county agent. The children and young people were very enthusiastic and did quite well for their training period. Mrs. L. L. Chiles of Brazoria called Friday a. m. on her way to San Marcos to bring her daughter home for a visit between semesters. Wyona Jean made such excellent grades in college that she was exempted from taking the usual tests; and so will enjoy a week at home with parents, grandparents and young friends. Mrs. Martin Nelson of Tidehaven was hostess Thursday for the demonstration club. Nine members were present, and some business transacted. Mrs. Dawn Duncan gave a demonstration on the culture of roses. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Long and their son, Douglas, and family, all of Houston, were here Sunday visiting Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Cornelius and Grandpa Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Genzer and family of Bay City spent the day Sunday in the V. O. Hale home here. Mrs. Fred Cornelius' mother Grace Raleigh of Ganado, is improved the past few days. Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Ward are having a pleasant visit from his brother, Roy O. Ward, and wife, whose home is in Camorillo, Calif. They left for their home Monday. Other visitors in the Ward home are their daughters, Mrs. R. H. Miss Yvonne Williams was the guest at a birthday party given by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Williams in their home Wednesday. Miss Williams is employed in Bay City. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Green were hosts at their son Eugene's birthday party Saturday. Friends attending Master Green's sixth birthday were Debbie, Donna and Sandra Richardson of Midfield. Also attending were Gary and Yvonne Hunt of Palacios and Cynthia Green of El Campo. Refreshments were the traditional cake and cold drinks and sandwiches. Trips Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bullard and son Henry, of Houston, spent the week-end in Midfield. They returned to Houston Sunday, where Mr. Bullard will have an operation. Mr. Roscoe R. Bolling of Palacios visited the W. K. Keller home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Ward were hosts to their daughter and grandchildren, Mrs. Verlie Henneke, Kenny and Judy of Bay City. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hurta and daughter Nancy of Midfield, spent Sunday visiting Mrs. John Gedlacek of Gonzales. Mrs. Gedlacek is the sister of Mr. Hurta. Mrs. Fred Cornelius and Dr. and Mrs. Chester Spencer flew from Houston to New Orleans Sunday to attend a medical convention there. Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Wratislaw and their daughter Darlene, of Sulphur, La., have been visiting relatives in Midfield. Mr. Eugene Kretschman from Louisiana, has been visiting his father and sisters in Midfield. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bunge and children of Garwood, spent the day in Midfield Sunday in the home of Mrs. Abby Anderson. Churches and Lodges Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hurta and daughter attended a barbecue supper at Palacios Friday. The event was sponsored jointly by the Blessing and Palacios Masonic lodges, and the Palacios Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls. The Blessing Catholic Youth Midget basketball team drew several people to San Antonio Friday. W. E. Richardson and his son, Marshall, Carroll McGee, Frank Hurta, Eugene Zapalac and Aylouse Krenek made the trip. The Rev. Hejl of the Czech-Brethren Congregation in Rosenburg was a guest in thr Bosak home. He held services in the Methodist Church in Midfield. Illness Mr. Edgar Beyer is ill in an El Campo hospital suffering from pneumonia. His father, Mr. Charles Beyer is also sick in Matagorda General Hospital. Deaths We are sorry to report the passing of Mrs. Mary J. Cornelius Sunday at 11 a. m. in her El Campo home.

Burke of Bay City, and Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Rhodes were Sunday visitors in the Keller home. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cornelius attended the wedding of their cousin, Edna Arrendall, to Mrs. Joseph F. Kallus, in Houston Saturday. The ceremony was in St. Paul's Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Merta and children spent Sunday in El Campo visiting relatives. Mrs. Joe Kana, Mrs. Ivan Kana and Mrs. Theo Krenek attended a meeting in Palacios Sunday. It was for the District Deanery of Catholic Women. Mrs. Charles Nemec was hostess for a birthday party in honor of her three children Sunday. The children all have their birthdays in March. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fitzgerald took their daughter Priscilla to Houston Tuesday for medical treatment. Mrs. T. B. Ward will spend the next few days in the homes of her daughters in Velasco and Freeport. Clarence E. Feagin of Texas City and his son Bubba have been here visiting his mother, Mrs. Abby Anderson.
