Beverly Frances Shelton Acker

Beverly Frances Shelton Acker, 87, of San Antonio, Texas passed away May 17, 2020 in her sleep.

Wife, mother, journalist, rancher, and photographer, Beverly lived a full life with a positive impact on everyone she encountered. A true "people Person", she never met a person that stayed a stranger for long and most became friends for life.

Spirited, loving and adventurous, she enjoyed travel (especially New York - to catch the latest on Broadway), keeping up with friends and family (she had many, many cousins) and making new friends. As a native Texan, she loved Texas flora and fauna and spent many wonderful hours photographing both. Because of her abiding faith in Jesus Christ, she loved generously, and we, her children, know that she awoke Sunday morning in the arms of her Saviour. We will miss her.

Beverly is survived by her brother, James Poe Shelton and his partner Ronald Texley of Santa Barbara, CA; children, David and Linda Hollers of Woodway, TX, Scott and Michele Acker of Tilden, TX, and Shella Bonner of Tilden, TX, and grandchildren, Jennifer Hollers of Austin, TX, Shelton and Theresa Hollers of Brooklyn, NY, Joshua and Brianna Clayton of Dallas, TX, Elyse Acker of Austin, TX, and Miles and Rachel Williams of Houston, TX. She is also survived by her 5 great-grandchildren, Abby, Austin, Ashlyn, Silas and Merrick.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husbands, Edwin V. Acker Jr. of Tilden TX, and Hardy W. Hollers of Austin, TX.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will not be a funeral service at this time. In lieu of flowers, please donate to South Texas Children’s Home, PO Box 1210, Beeville, TX 78104.

Linda Dean Allen
From an early age, until her last day family is all that Mattered

On May 21st, 1941 Mr. Barney Allen Sr. and Mrs. Alfreda Bivens Allen welcomed their 5th child and 1st daughter Linda Dean Allen. Linda was one of seven wonderful children. Though there were many in the household Linda had the ability to stand her ground and avoid conforming to traditional expectations. She decided at an early age she would never marry or have children. She expressed that was not a road she deemed necessary for happiness.

After graduating from Hilliard High School in May of 1960, Linda focused all her energy on being an intricate part of her immediate family unit.

Well into her twenties her brother Sherman convinced her she needed to learn to drive. After much resistance she decided she would allow him to teach her. He was always so patient, and they were remarkably close. Unfortunately, Linda lost her brother in August of 1967 before they completed her driving lessons. She never felt comfortable with anyone else and realized she quite enjoyed being chauffeured around. She then lost her father in November 1970. Both deaths were sudden and tethered Linda even more closely to her family.

As many young adults yearn to do, Linda’s sibling all left home creating their own lives and starting their own families. Linda, on the other hand, chose to build upon the foundation laid by her parents and committed to stay home with her mother and help raise her sister Cookie’s only child. While Cookie worked in Radiology at MD Anderson Hospital and attended Texas Southern University, both full time, Linda encouraged her every step of the way. Others told Cookie “you’re trying to do too much.” Linda was Cookie’s constant source of strength, Always telling her sister “don’t you ever give up. Me and Mama Frieda are taking care of Katrina. You just focus, you can do it.” Cookie obtained her pharmacy degree and standing by her side on graduation day, with extreme pride, was Linda.

Linda was devastated by the loss of her mother Alfreda in January 1984 and her sister Cookie in December 1987. She leaned into her faith for strength, peace and guidance.

Linda remained at the family home and kept it filled with love. Ready to welcome all family any time day or night. She stayed busy cooking, doing laundry, anything her family needed. After leaving work she prepared for family get togethers. Her oldest brother Fleet was everyone’s

favorite Postman. He was also the family’s counselor and problem solver. Barney Jr with Phillips Petroleum would keep the lawn manicured and the vehicles shinning. It was a special treat when her baby sister Alfreda Ann would leave her job at Mobile’s Corporate Office and drive down from Houston to spend quality time with Linda. Ann loved to cook, and the family loved her cooking. It was Linda’s opportunity to relax when her sister came to town. Even though all her siblings were married and led busy lives they would all unite at the family property for fellowship and bonding frequently. Her confidant was Bubba her middle brother. A dedicated law enforcement officer, he never missed a single day visiting with his sister. He was her personal chauffeur, business manager and best friend. The siblings were close and took care of one another.

Sadly, in September 2010 her youngest brother Barney Jr passed away. Bubba followed shortly after in October 2010. Linda’s life was committed to her immediate family, losing her two brothers, in such a short span of time hit hard.

Linda continued working and taking care of her family. With the niece she helped raise living more than three hours away, she and Fleet kept the family bond. He visited with his sister everyday Monday thru Friday. Ann visited frequently and prepared her fabulous meals. Though her niece was far away they spoke on the phone several times each day and took many road trips together. Linda’s great niece always referred to her as “my Boo thang”. Hence, the loving nickname stuck, Aunt Linda Boo!

Annette Allen – Green, Bubba’s daughter was now Linda’s personal chauffeur and they had a ball. On the road constantly, shopping, running errands, just having fun.

As retirement age approached, Linda’s niece, who was now raising her great niece in San Antonio Tx, was persistent in trying to get Linda to move to San Antonio and live with the two of them. Linda said that simply was not possible because someone had to maintain the family property. Her niece offered many different suggestions on how that could be taken care of, but they were all rejected. Though she was excited to visit frequently, she would not commit to live in San Antonio due to her family responsibilities in Bay City.

On February 4th, 2015 Linda’s great great niece was born. Everyone has heard of or experienced the miracle and overflowing joy that babies unleash in our hearts. Suddenly there was no place like San Antonio, with that baby girl. She happily relocated. She immediately became the heartbeat of the household in San Antonio just as she was in Bay City. It was joyful to see four generations, living and working together to experience all the magnificent things life has to offer.

Linda spoke constantly of how proud she was of her girls while experiencing her great great niece’s birthdays, her great niece’s promotions and her niece’s semi-retirement. She spoke often of how grateful she was for the way God had blessed her. The benefits of having such a wonderfully loving and nurturing family. During family meetings Linda would reminisce about her mother, father brothers and sisters. She spoke of how much she loved her entire family while enlightening her nieces on family history. Her great great niece was her everything, and they were inseparable. That little girl made Linda smile and laugh hard and often.

After recently complaining of abdominal discomfort, Linda was taken on Wednesday March 3rd for examination. On Saturday March 6th at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital Linda Dean Allen transitioned from this life.

A private ceremony was held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Memorial Park & Crematory in San Antonio Tx.

Linda was correct when she said she would never marry but, she did have children, three of them: Katrina, Katina and Karina.

There are not enough words or enough time to express Linda’s love and dedication to her family. While everyone was marrying, having kids, divorcing, graduating college, traveling, building careers, changing careers and all things in between Linda Dean Allen was the remarkably steady anchor that encouraged everyone to live life to its fullest yet always know that she maintained a safe place for you to land if needed. She never looked at what she did as a sacrifice. She never desired or longed for more. From an early age Linda committed her life to her immediate family until her last day on this earth.

The family thanks everyone for the outpour of support. They will be receiving those who wish to celebrate Ms. Linda’s life on Saturday March 20th, 2021 between the hours of 2p to 5p.

Neoma LaRue Allen

August 12, 1928 - August 14, 2020

Neoma LaRue Collins Allen passed away on August 14, 2020 at the age of 92 after suffering a stroke.

Neoma was born on August 12, 1928 in the community of Rochester, Texas located in Haskell County.

She was the only child of Versie Irene Roach Collins and Earl Edward Collins. At age 2, she and her family moved to Jonesboro, Texas which she considered to be her childhood home. Her father worked in nearby Gatesville at the Boy’s Reform School. When she was 16, the family moved to Corsicana, Texas where both parents were employed by the State Orphan Home.

Neoma graduated from Corsicana High at age 16. At age 20, she graduated from North Texas University, where she met her future husband, Jehu Wesley Allen. Neoma and Jake were married in 1950. That year, they settled in Corsicana, and began 69 years of marriage until Jake’s passing in 2018. Also in 1950, they both began a dedicated teaching career in the Barry community. Neoma continued to teach in the Corsicana area until her retirement in 1987. She moved to Bay City, Texas in 2018 to be near family.

Neoma and Jake led an exemplary and wonderful life in Corsicana. Both were longtime members of The First United Methodist Church, where they were active in various church ministries. Whether participating in Sunday school, preparing food for those in need, or decorating the sanctuary for Christmas, they were faithfully committed to the Church’s mission.

Neoma and Jake cherished their life together at their home on Park Avenue. They worked tirelessly to create a beautiful yard, garden, and overall sanctuary for themselves and their beloved pets. The ten years that Neoma’s mother lived with them was a very special time. Neoma was keenly aware of all “goings on” in the neighborhood. Through community, church, school and family the Allens developed many friendships, but few were more important to them than their neighbors.

Neoma was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Jake. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins. “Nomi” will be missed and fondly remembered by family, friends, and former students for her loyalty, faithfulness and dedication. Her family wishes to thank Jake’s niece, Diana Shindler, and her family for the attentive care and love shown Neoma since Jake’s death.

Harlin "Andy" Dwayne Anderson

December 15, 1933 - January 14, 2021

Harlin Dwayne “Andy” Anderson born December 15, 1933 to Ora Dee and Clifton Anderson in Fairfield Texas passed away at the age of 87 on January 14, 2021 after a lengthy battle with multiple health issues and has risen in victory!

Andy graduated from Fairfield High School in 1951 and went on to attend University of Texas and Sam Houston State University where he graduated in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts. He joined the ROTC while attending SHSU and served in the United States Army Reserves for 10 yrs.

After college he married his hometown sweetheart, Carolyn White. Andy and Carolyn were married for 63 years and had 4 sons and one daughter. Andy was a draftsman for several years before he began his career as an insurance agent. He worked for Farm Bureau before starting his own successful business “Andy Anderson Insurance“, where he worked for 33 years. He retired in 2015 and loved spending time with his cows at his home place in Fairfield. If you were looking for Andy he could be found counting cows from the back of his truck at the Rock Garden or from Sugar Hill.

Andy and Carolyn were very active members of First Baptist church in Bay City. He was a deacon, an usher leader, served on the security team, and a host of other duties. He enjoyed attending the men’s prayer breakfasts and the fellowship that arose from them. He was a devout Christian and is no doubt healed and receiving his heavenly reward.

Andy loved Carolyn and could often be heard calling her sweetheart or by his favorite nickname for her “Hortence”.

He was known for his charming personality and his ability to always come up with a quip that would make you laugh out loud.

He would always be willing to give a hug or to share a conversation at the back pew at First Baptist Church.

Josephine Garza Andrade

February 03, 1924 - September 04, 2020

Josephine Garza Andrade, 96, of Bay City passed away September 4, 2020.  She was born February 3, 1924 in Runge, TX to the late Jose Garza and Elvira Molina Garza.

Josephine was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, housewife and homemaker. While her children were school age, she substituted for several of the schools within the Bay City ISD. She was a certified CCD teacher and taught at both Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was a wonderful seamstress and was mostly self taught as a young girl cutting out patterns and sewing her creations for her dolls. She honed her sewing skills in the home economic classes while attending Goliad High School (Graduating Class 1945) and also as a seamstress at a bridal shop. Many a stranger knocked on her front door throughout the years asking for her dressmaking skills - be it a dress, slacks, suits, or anything, she  was always quick to oblige. In her retirement years she spent time as a volunteer for the Matagorda County Museum where she used her sewing skills once again when asked to sew from an original period piece pattern, of a WWI army uniform. It was displayed at the museum for all guests to admire and appreciate.  Our mother was an avid reader and she passed along the love of reading to all her children. Our school year summers were spent with special trips to the public library. Books are what she used to satisfy all her many different interests from gardening, cooking, bird watching, her list of interests was endless. She was as good a writer as she was a book reader. She aspired to write a novel, but instead filled many pages of hand written accounts of her busy days as a mother our grandmother with a few lines also dedicated to her husband and his daily routines and rituals. Those writings are family treasures. Her descriptive writing ability could easily transport any reader into her life. There was much love and laughter written in those pages but also sadness and tragedies. She lived a full life and we will always be so grateful for her openness of her heart and mind. She gave her family her all. We love you, momma, and we love you for sharing your faith in God and for teaching us that all things in life are thru His Will.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Eva Garcia Medina, brothers  Brigido Garcia, Domingo Garza and a grandson Steven “Bubba” Garcia, Jr. .Survivors include her husband Gregorio Andrade; daughters Juanita Andrade, Viviana Andrade Hargis (Charles), Maria Andrade and Linda Andrade Knipping (Dave); son Jacob Andrade; grandchildren Rita Andrade, Christina Duke (Josh), Celeste Andrade, Teresa Case (Chris), Weslely Andrade, Eric Andrade, Lindsey Andrade-Leos and Rebecca Wood; great grandchildren Aidyn Andrade, Tristan Case, River Phipps, Zoe Case and Rayner Garcia and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Roselawn Memorial Park with Deacon Joe Ramos officiating.
