Larry Fred Baker

(July 19, 1959 - December 8, 2017)

Larry Fred Baker, 58, of Brenham, TX passed away December 8, 2017. He was born July 19, 1959 in Overton, TX to the late Jesse Owens Baker and Doris Maureen Cameron Baker. He was passionate for history especially anything that had to do with The Great State of Texas. His life was dedicated to education of others inside and outside the walls of any school. His ultimate love was for God’s creation whether it be the great outdoors, people around him, animals of all kind, and above all the legacy he left in his children and grandson.

Survivors include daughters Alecia Patranella & husband Jason of Huntsville and Stephanie Baker of Huntsville; son Joshua Baker of San Diego, CA; sisters Carolyn Baker of Bryan and Marilyn Savage of Markham; brother Mike Baker & wife Linda of Houston and one grandson Bradley Owen Patranella.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Hawley Cemetery near Blessing, TX with Joshua Baker officiating.

Grace Ryman Barber
(April 2, 1920 - August 2, 2017)

Grace Ryman Barber, lovingly known as Aunt Gracie to many, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2017 in San Antonio Texas at the age of 97. She had lived in Corpus Christi, Texas for many years with her husband Harold. Grace was active in her community of Second Baptist church where she had strong fellowship with her member friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mary Ryman and also her husband of over 65 years, Harold Barber.

She is survived brothers Eugene (and wife Dorothy) and Victor (and wife Pat) and also by many nieces and nephews and their families – a large family whom she loved and served as their matriarch. The family thanks the staff of loving caretakers at Stone Oak Care Center and the attendees from Heart to Heart Hospice for their tender care.

Graveside services will be held at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 2 pm in the afternoon.

October 17, 1937 - December 20, 2017

Joe Ynes Barela, 80, of Bay City, Texas passed away December 20, 2017.

He was born October 17, 1937 in Eagle Lake, Texas to the late Ynes Barela and Maria Romo Barela.

He was preceded in death by one son, Army Airborne Ranger John Christopher Barela.

Survivors include his wife, Elvira Barela; daughters, Sylvia Ann Nelson (Craig) of Barrington, Illinois, Monica Mary Black (Jeff) of Poulsbo, Washington and Jackie Ramsey (Matthew) of Bay City; son, Joseph Eric Barela (Tippi) of Baytown, TX; sister, Romona Barela Garcia of Houston; brothers, Toby Barela (Bernice) of Houston and Simon Barela (Virginia) of Van Vleck; grandchildren, Ashley Ann Barela, Jordan Trinity Barela, Erin Rebecca Nelson, Jessica Rachel Nelson, Spencer Scott Black, Samuel Richard Black, Brennen Matthew Ramsey, Jacob Braden Ramsey and Pvt. Noah Parker Ramsey; and one great grandchild, Lilly Ann Oltz.

Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 6 p.m.

Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City with the Rev. Greg Korenek officiating.

Interment follow a Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers were Chad Bailey Ashcraft, Brennen Matthew Ramsey, Jacob Braden Ramsey, Pvt. Noah Ramsey, Matthew Ramsey, and Joseph Eric Barela.

Dorris Ann
Barton
(April 10, 1934 - August 5, 2017)

Dorris Ann Barton, 83, of Bay City, TX passed away on August 5, 2017. She was born April 10, 1934 in Houston to Clifford S. and Thelma Mae Walker Ackley.

Dorris’ number one thing in her life was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and her next thing was her family. She was part of Industry Telephone Company which was started by her parents and is still run by her family today. Dorris owned and operated the Texas Grill and Restaurant in Rosenberg, TX.

Dorris is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tom Barton; brother Gaylen Ackley and nephew Mark Ackley. She is survived by her loving family: daughter, Debbie Stavinoha and husband Mike of Richmond, Texas; son, Robert Miller, Jr. and wife Diane of Bastrop, Texas; daughter, Susie Estraca and husband Fermin of Bay City, Texas; 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday, August 8 from 5:30-7:30pm at the funeral home. Funeral services are at 1:00pm Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. A graveside service will be held 4:30pm Wednesday, at the New Ulm Cemetery in New Ulm, Texas. Serving as pallbearers, Jason Miller, Paul Hoggatt, Jr., Tommy Holland, Jayme Rocha, Joe Zamora, Kyle Lowe, Travis Urbanek, and David King. Janie Beyer
(November 8, 1928 - January 17, 2018)

Janie Beyer, 89, of Midfield passed away January 17, 2018. She was born November 8, 1928 in El Maton, TX to the late Vincent Lejsal and Johanna Tomeckova Lejsal.

Janie enjoyed working in her flower beds, baking kolaches for her family, friends and church functions at St Peters Catholic Church. She enjoyed visiting on the phone, sending birthday cards, writing letters about regular everyday events in her life to family and friends. She also loved dewberry picking.

Veterans had a special place in her heart especially since her husband was a WWII veteran.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar C. Beyer, Sr., a daughter Rose Marie Beyer and 10 siblings, and 1 sister in law.

Survivors include daughters Theresa Strack (Randy) of El Campo and Donna Beyer of Houston; sons Edgar C. Beyer, Jr. (Connie) of Danevang, Gary Beyer (Glynda) of LaWard, James Beyer (Diane) of Markham and David Beyer (Samantha) of Prospect, TN; sister-in-law Beatrice Lejsal; Grandchildren Stacey Charbula, Cody Strack, Justin Strack, Felicia Clark, Brandon Beyer, Jeri Beyer, Becky Michel, Richard Beyer, Kristin Wyatt, Colby Ruf, Seth Beyer. 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Sunday visitation will start at 4 with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 PM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing. Funeral Mass will be Monday, January 22 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Beyer, Richard Beyer, Seth Beyer, Cody Strack, Johnny Lejsal, Edgar Beyer, Jr. Justin Strack will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Gloria Ann Brackman, 83, formerly of West Columbia, TX passed away December 7, 2017. She was born July 19, 1934 in Sylvester, Georgia to the late Carter Houston and Geanette Giddens Houston.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald William Brackman in 2008.

Survivors include daughter Debbie Kuck; son Ronnie Singletary; grandson Matthew Kuck and great grandchildren Cameron and Dylan Kuck.

A visitation will begin at 12:30 PM Monday, December 11, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM Monday at the Sweeny Cemetery.

D. B. Brainerd
June 14, 1926 - January 14, 2018

D. B. Brainerd of El Campo, TX, formerly of Bay City, died January 14, 2018 at the age of 91.

He was born on June 14, 1926 in Memphis, TN to the late Earl and Inez Allen Brainerd.  He was a veteran of the Coast Guard, and was a Bay City police officer for 20 years before he retired.

He is survived by his daughters, Angie Socha and husband Jeff of El Campo, and Melissa Gore of Benton, AR; son, William "Bubba" Brainerd and wife Marcie of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Tyler and Breck Socha, Taryn Socha, Wade Lindsey, Bryce Gore, Douglas and Cari Brainerd, Patrick and Sydney Brainerd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Cones Brainerd; and brothers, Merle and John Brainerd.

Visitation was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Triska Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at First Baptist Church in El Campo with the Rev. Rick DuBroc officiating.

Graveside services with military honors will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Douglas Brainerd, Patrick Brainerd, Tyler Socha, Trenton Socha, Wade Lindsey, Bryce Gore, Shawn Ferguson, Robert Garcia, Trey Staff and Rey Alaniz.

Michael Robert Branson

Funeral services for Michael Robert Branson, 30, of Bay City are scheduled for 2 p. m. Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel in Bay City with the Rev. Robert Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Mr. Branson was born Dec. 19, 1961 in Calexico, Calif. to Larry and Vernita Ann Branson and died July 30, 1992 at Angleton Danbury General Hospital in Angleton.

He was employed by Houston Light & Power for four years.

Survivors include his wife, Susan McMahon of Bay City; two sons, Michael Daniel Branson and Christopher John Branson, both of Bay City; parents, Larry and Vernita Branson of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister and brother-in-law, Dana and Bob Sulzman of Denver, Colo.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny and Kathy Branson of Gypsum, Colo., and Glenn and Debbie Branson of Bay City; paternal grandmother, Edith Branson of Grand Junction, Colo.; maternal grandfather, Vernon Meeks of Washington; and three nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mike Finster, Jimmy McMahon, Dalton Clements, Tommy Brangan, Chuck Singleton and Bill Piggott. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael McMahon, Chris Anderson, Jimmy Brangan, Lad Bacer, Michael Trochta, Mark Barrett and HL&P Telecommunications Technicians.

Bay City Man, 30, Dies In Bull Riding Accident

Angleton—Michael Robert Branson of Bay City, 30, was killed Thursday evening at the Robert Jackson Rodeo Arena. According to a Brazoria County sheriff’s report, Branson was trampled to death after falling off a bull.

Family members administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene of the accident before the ambulance crew arrived. Branson was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Angleton Danbury General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:45 p. m. The sheriff’s report stated the bull’s hooves crushed Branson’s chest cavity.

Branson was practicing bull riding at the arena. He was with his family and friends when the accident occurred.

Branson was a telephone communications technician for Houston Lighting and Power at the South Texas Project. Susie Branson, the man’s wife, also is an employee at STP.

The arena where the accident occurred is located on Farm Road 521 outside of Angleton.

League City—Infant Ashli Hart Brooks, 5 months, of League City died Thursday.

Services are 10 a. m. today at Jack Rowe Funeral home in League City. James Hamilton will officiate. Burial will follow at 1 p. m. graveside service at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, with the Rev. Hugh Jones officiating.

Visitation was Friday at the funeral home.

Ashli was born Feb. 10, 1990, in Pasadena.

Survivors include her parents, Cary and Brenda Brooks of League City; grandparents, Gayle and Monte Marshall of Port Aransas, Tommi and Gerald Brooks of Bossier City, La., and Mary and Denny Godwin Sr. of Augusta, Ga.; great-grandparents, Elaine Williams of Bay City, Carrie Brooks of Dallas, Opal and Charles Godwin of Charleston, S. Man Killed At Sulphur Fields - C. Brown

A man by the name of C. Brown, employed by the Gulf Sulphur Co., was knocked in the head by a Negro laborer Tuesday and died yesterday. The Negro escaped and has not been apprehended. Nothing is known of the dead man or his relatives. He was buried in the Bay City cemetery this afternoon.

Harry E. Brown

Harry E. Brown, 78, 700 Henderson Rd., Palacios, died of an apparent heart attack and was found at his residence Friday morning. He was born June 6, 1900 in Iowa and moved to Palacios several years ago, where he retired. He was the brother of the late comedian Joe E. Brown. Brown leaves no surviving relatives other than a host of friends and loved ones. Graveside services and interment was held at 5 p. m. Friday at the Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Eddie Callendar of the Matthews Street Church of Christ officiated. Arrangements under the direction of the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

December 10, 1931 - December 9, 2017

Jack Odell Brown, 85, passed away December 9, 2017 at his home in Sugar Valley, TX.

He was born December 10, 1931 on his home place in Sugar Valley, TX to the late Walter Brown Sr. and Reba Whiddon Brown.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and spent his career as oil field superintendent for George R. Brown Lease Service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Brown; sister, Margery Noster; and brothers, George Brown, T. T. Brown and W. A. Brown.

Survivors include his daughter, Sharilyn Ross (Darron) of Bay City; grandchildren, Blaine Ross (Shelby) and Jordan Ross (Shea Krauskopf); and brother-in-law, Joel “Bubba” Barlow (Laura).

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, TX.

Marilyn Ann Barlow Brown

Marilyn Ann Barlow Brown, 70, of Van Vleck, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 in Houston, TX. She was born May 13, 1939 in El Campo, TX to the late Lois Ann Herreth Barlow and Charles Delbert Barlow. She was a life long resident of Matagorda County. She was the treasurer and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Van Vleck, a member of the Pilot Club, and a member of the Eastern Star. She retired for the County of Matagorda as a bookkeeper for the County Auditors Office.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years: Jack Odell Brown of Van Vleck; her daughter: Sharilyn Ann Ross & husband Darron of Bay City; her brother: Joel “Bubba” Barlow of Tomball; and her grandchildren: Blaine Thomas Ross and Jordan Leeann Ross. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive visitors from 6 PM to 8 PM Monday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Van Vleck with Rev. Martha Girling officiating. Funeral Services For Mrs. Bryant Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Mrs. E. T. Bryant, 57, of Bay City were held Tuesday at the First Methodist Church. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Bryant died Monday. She is survived by her husband; mother, Mrs. P. F. Gill of Bay City; daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Knott of Bay City; Mrs. Lois Pitt of Fort Worth, and Mrs. Joy Marie Goodson of Bay City.

Also surviving are two sons, Edwood Bryant and Allen Bryant of Corpus Christi.

James A. Bryant Dies At Matagorda Hospital Today

Mr. James Amos Bryant, 77, for forty years a resident of Markham died this morning at 10 o’clock at the Matagorda General hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. J. A. Bryant of Markham and one brother, D. M. Bryant of Austin.

Funeral services, under the direction of Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, will be Friday at 2 o’clock with Rev. Norman Spellman officiating.

Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Bryant, Mrs. Edna Bates, age 80, of Markham, passed away at Matagorda General Hospital Monday, March 9. Funeral services are to be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday afternoon, March 11, at Taylor Bros. Mrs. Bryant had been a resident of Markham for the last 50 years, and a member of the Methodist Church and of the Eastern Star Chapter 380.

Nora Lee Bucek, 93, of Bay City, Texas passed away October 19, 2017.

She was born October 12, 1924 in Smiley, Texas to the late Ruben Lee Leaser and Albina Sedlacek Leaser.

She married Wilton John “Bill” Bucek July 23, 1938.  They were married 65 years before his death in 2004.  She spent hours and hours caring for their home and her beautiful yard.

She is survived by her daughter, Jo Nell Powell and her husband Joe of Bay City; her son, John Wayne Bucek Sr. and his wife Linda of Markham; her sister, Alice Danner of Mexia, Texas; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2017 at Taylor Bros Funeral Home in Bay City, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.

Modena Pruett Buckley

Services for Modena Pruett Buckley, 73, were held at 2 p. m. today in Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert Carter of Broadway Baptist Church in Houston officiated.

Buckley was born on Oct. 23, 1909, in Gatesville, and she died on Aug. 15 at her residence in Bay City. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. G. Buckley.

She is survived by her brothers Cecil E. Pruett of Cedar Lane and Robert C. Pruett of Sweeny; her sisters Mrs. Jimmie Stewart of Wharton, Mrs. Ruth Martindale and Mrs. Etta Newman of Angleton, and Mrs. Bonnie Starnes of Midway; and by several nieces and nephews.

Buckley was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Bay City Chapter 380. She was a teacher in the U. S. military and in the public school system who retired after fourteen years of service.

Following the services, burial will take place at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Fred Martindale, Robert Stewart, Gary Pruett, Robert Pruett, Ronny Pruett and Mike Pruett.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins of Bay City Funeral Home.

Rites Held For Henry Bullard, Wreck Victim

Funeral services for native Matagorda Countian Henry Bullard, 50, were held at 2 p. m. Friday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, the Rev. David Elliott of Van Vleck Baptist officiating. Bullard, who lived in Shepherd, was killed in a Houston traffic accident Thursday morning. Interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Survivors include four daughters, Mmes. Bertha Wells of Old Ocean, Ruby Moore of LaPorte, Frances Bullard of Baytown, Molly McDaniel of Lake Jackson; one son, Robert Henry Bullard of Baytown; four sisters, Mmes. Lonnie Glaze of Sargent, Boyd Foltyn of Palacios, C. B. Keener and Marvin Rodgers of Bay City; four brothers, Oliver of California, Mike and Marion of Sargent, Billy of Cedar Lane and Cliff of Houston.

Pallbearers were Elo Werlla, Mack Phillips, John Stevens, Alton Graham, S. N. Burkett and Howard Clements.

George Joseph Bunk

A Rosary for George Joseph Bunk, 56, will be said at 7:00 P. M. Sunday May 30, 1999 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 A. M. Monday May 31, 1999 also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.

Bunk died Friday May 19, 1999 in Houston, Texas. He was born May 31, 1942 in Houston, Texas to George Andrew and Helen Watkins Bunk.

After graduating from St. Thomas University, Bunk joined the Peace Corps and spent 2 years in Brazil, then returned to Wadsworth and went into farming until 1981 when he started to managing Bay City Plumbing. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survived by his sisters, and brother-in-law Paula and Jim Kimbrough of Morales and Joyce Knapik of Bay City, brother Murray Bunk of Wadsworth, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Thomas University or to the donor’s choice. Arrangements by Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Last Rites Held For Infant Daughter Of Hurl Burketts – Dolly Ann Burkett

Funeral services were held from the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hurl Burkett, Dolly Ann Burkett.

Rev. Melvin Marshall officiated. Interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

She is survived by her parents, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Burkett of Sargent and Mr. Noah McCloughn of Sargent.

Funeral Services Are Held For Mrs. Claude Butcher - Rose Lee Lowrie Brent Butcher

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Claude Butcher, who died after an illness of some time.

Surviving are her husband, Claude; one daughter, Mrs. I. G. Matthews of Freeport; two grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Homer Cupp and Mrs. Nix [Nick] Smith, Trinity, Mrs. C. W. Pearce of Boling; three brothers, P. Lowery of Boling, J. B. Lowery of Fostoria, and W. R. Lowery of Call.

Services were held from the First Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Paul Davis officiating. Burial was in the Cedarvale Cemetery with Walker-Matchett in charge.

William T. Butcher

William Tell Butcher, age 76 years, 7 months and 27 days, died at the family residence in Markham Sunday morning at eleven o’clock. Death came as the result of a stroke, followed by pneumonia which set in last Thursday.

Mr. Butcher is survived by his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Frank Quinney and Mrs. Stella Mickman, of Markham; Mrs. J. W. Belcher, of Port Aransas; Mrs. A. Ritter, of Taylor, and Mrs. D. W. Dowling, of Refugio; three sons, C. C. Butcher, of Refugio, and Cecil Butcher, of Markham; also one sister, Mrs. Mae Watson, of Texas City.

Funeral services were held this (Monday) afternoon at 2:30 from the funeral chapel of  Taylor Bros. in Bay City with Rev. R. E. Black of Markham, officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale cemetery under the direction of Taylor Bros.
