Bennie Wayne Baldwin

Bennie Wayne Baldwin, Sr., 61, of Houston, Texas, passed away July 12, 2008. Bennie was born March 25, 1947 in Houston, Texas to Bernice Lee Baldwin and Gladys Stutts Baldwin. He was preceded in death by son, Bennie Wayne Baldwin, Jr. and by wife Deborah Baldwin. He is lovingly survived by son, Jerry Baldwin and by daughter, Yvette Baldwin; by brother, B. L. Baldwin and by sister, Mary Laree Edwards; as well as by grandchildren, Danielle, Kody, Kade, Desiree and Bradley. Services celebrating his life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Pastor Morris Jeffery officiating. He will be laid to rest in Roselawn Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.

Z. V. Barnes

Z. V. Barnes, 56, of Lane City died Sept. 18 in the Caney Valley Hospital at Wharton. He was a WWII Veteran and a former resident of Bay City. Survivors include: wife, Sarah Barnes; a daughter, Rosemary Barnes of Slaton; a step-son, M. C. Evans of Alvin; 5 aunts, Tennie Gore of Bay City, Ora L. Edwards and Margie Powell of Corpus Christi, Bessie Jones of Houston, and Odessa Bryant of Edna; 5 grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Tyree Chapel AME Church in Bay City, Sept. 22, at 2 p. m. with the Rev. George Turner officiating. Interment will be at the Eastview Cemetery in Bay City. Charles David Henscey Barlow
June 23, 1962 - April 8, 2019

 Charles David Henscey Barlow, resident of Van Vleck, TX, passed away after a short but intense battle with cancer on April 8, 2019 at the age of 56.

David was born June 23, 1962 to Anna Grace Hencsey and James Toby Barlow in Houston TX. He was raised by his grandparents in Van Vleck, where he attended school.

He was a loving father, a great friend, a Karaoke Junky, a wonderful dancer, and enjoyed many other hobbies.

He will be missed by his son, Zackary Barlow of New Braunfels. He also leaves behind brothers, James Barlow of Spring, Stephen Barlow of Conroe, and Toby Barlow of Weimer.

Memorial services will be held at the Van Vleck Community Center on April 18, 2019 at 1 p.m.

Sara Flores Barron

April 30, 1931- December 15, 2018

Sara Flores Barron died peacefully at Matagorda Regional Hospital on December 15, 2018, in Bay City, Texas, at the age of 87.

Sara is survived by her children, Eleazar Barron of Bay City, Elizabeth Oros (husband, Jesus) of Bay City, John Barron (wife, Amy) of Houston, Domingo Barron, Sr. (wife, Debra) of Orchard and Herminia Thompson (husband, Steve) of San Antonio.  Sara has 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

 She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan S. Barron; son, Ernest Barron; her parents; and 12 siblings.

Sara was born on April 30, 1931, in Lane City, Texas. She married Juan S. Barron. After the passing of her husband, she worked as a cook and then worked for Walker Seed & Garden in Bay City for over 25 years as part of the lawn maintenance crew. Sara enjoyed working with plants and serving at her church Iglesia Metodista Unida Nazaret. She served her family and her God and was a woman of great faith, strength, and courage. She will be greatly missed.

Services for Sara will be held at Wharton Funeral Home located at 515 E Bowling Hwy., in Wharton, TX.

Service schedule is as follows: Wednesday, December 19, 2018, viewing from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2018, Funeral service at 10 a.m.

Sara will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park in Wharton, Texas.

Russell “Baldie” Batchelar, 35, of Tres Palacios passed away November 24, 2018. He was born March 12, 1983 in Effingham, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his father Sherman Russell Batchelar, Jr.

Survivors include his mother Ruby Whipple Batchelar; maternal grandmother Jessie Whipple; paternal grandfather Sherman Russell Batchelar, Sr.; daughters Bridgett Batchelar and Phoebe Batchelar; sisters Tonya Morales and husband Gilbert, Ashley Batchelar and Jessica Batchelar and brothers Bobby Batchelar and Marty Batchelar.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5PM until 7PM Friday, November 30, 2018 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Faye Bates

February 22, 1929 - November 17, 2018

Faye Bates, 89, of Palacios passed away November 17, 2018. She was born February 22, 1929 in Kaufman County, Texas to the late Douglas Chamblee and Annie Daniels Chamblee.  She married Vernon A. Bates, Sr. in 1950.  He preceded her in death in 2010.

Survivors include her sons Vernon Bates, Jr. & wife Kathy and Mark Bates & wife Rhonda; sisters Margaret Cleveland, Lorraine Smith and Shirley Griffith; grandchildren Keith Bates, Brandi Stringfellow & husband Lance, Matthew Bates & wife Vanessa, Eric Bates & wife Caroline, and great grandchildren Jackson Bates, Will Bates, Sadie Stringfellow and Olivia Bates.

Faye’s love for the lord, her church and singing in the choir, influenced her family and friends throughout her life. Her failing health never stopped her from singing hymns and country gospel songs, while living out her final days. Her fun loving spirit and laughter will be a “treasure” to always remember.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. James Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Bates, Eric Bates, Keith Bates, Charles Eikenberg, Bob Kunefke and David Smith. Alton Smith, Ted Perkins and Fred Perkins will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Robert C. Baxter, 84, of Matagorda, passed away November 5, 2018. He was born November 25, 1933 in New Gulf, TX to William Sterling Baxter and Mamie Alice Pope Baxter.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; wife Ano Baxter; son John Sterling Baxter, and granddaughter Rachel Danette Thatcher. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Baxter Stallings and husband William H.; son Robert Lee Baxter; brothers William Sterling Baxter, Jr., John Cameron Baxter and David Lee Baxter; grandchildren Robert Lee Baxter II, Elisabeth Renee Herron, Daniel Nathan Baxter, Adam Kyle Baxter, nine great-grandchildren.

Thomas Martin Bennett

Funeral services for Thomas Martin Bennett, 22, of Bay City will be held at 10 am Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.  A rosary will be said at 7 pm Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Bennett was born July 7, 1962, in Bay City and died May 3, 1985, at M.D. Anderson Hospital, Houston.

He graduated from Holy Cross School and Bay City High School and Bay City High School and was a four-year accounting student at Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos. He was on the dean’s list of distinguished students his last full semester.  He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bennett of Bay City; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earle N. Bennett of Alvin; a brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Pamela Bennett of Williston, N. D.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita and Joel Skellie of Dallas and Mary and Gary Bucek of Conroe; a niece, Candace Bucek of Conroe; and his fiancée, Mary McClendon of Fort Worth.

His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kemp of Bay City, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers include R. W. Kennedy, Chris Kennedy, Richard Kemp, Thomas E. Lukefahr Jr., Guy Ogletree and Greg Tomek.

Timothy Raymond Blaylock, 60, of Van Vleck passed away November 4, 2018. He was born October 17, 1958 in Bay City, TX to the late Virgil B. Blaylock and Irene Kelley Blaylock.

Survivors include son Timothy Lee Blaylock and wife Tessa; daughter Jennifer Carter. Sisters to include Vicki McDonald and husband Wayne, Sr., Debbie Keller and husband Dana, Sandy Hickl and husband Edmund, Doreen Horton and husband Rob, brothers Virgil Blaylock and wife Pam, Ricky Blaylock and wife Mary; grandchildren Logan Carter, Trent Blaylock, Dustin Carter, Branson Blaylock, Bradley Winzenried, Ashlynn Winzenried, and Christopher Pustejovsky.

James Richard Bowles
December 17, 1946 – August 8, 2019

HITCHCOCK - Mr. James “Rick” Richard Bowles passed from this life Thursday morning, August 8, 2019, in Houston.
 

James was born on December 17, 1946 in Terrell, Texas to James and Amy (Rice) Bowles. From an early age, James knew the importance of education which is why he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1969 and his Master of Education Degree from the University of Houston in 1983. He married his wife, Susan Wehmeyer, in 1971 and together they raised their 4 boys. In addition to his own children, James taught and mentored many children throughout his career as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and principal. He had the privilege of serving children in the following districts over his career: Ganado ISD, Terrell ISD, Calhoun ISD, Bay City ISD, Pettus ISD, Mathis ISD, Pawnee ISD, Hitchcock ISD and Damon ISD. Some highlights of his career included taking the girls Pawnee HS volleyball team to the state finals and serving as principal for Bay City High School. He found his joy in watching his kids achieve their goals. James also shared his love of sports, especially University of Texas Football and Dallas Cowboys with his wife and together they competed in many tennis tournaments. He had a passion for photography, writing poetry, reader, was an avid Pokémon Go player and enjoyed spending time at the gun range but nothing pleased him more than being a grandfather. James was blessed with a generous life saving donation from a family who had lost a loved one. His new heart gave him 10 extra years to spend with his beloved family. A gift for which they are all eternally grateful. James touched the lives of so many by imparting knowledge and guidance to those who needed it. He left this world and all the lives he touched a little better for having known him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Mounger Bowles, Amy Margarete (Rice) Lucas and his sister, Mamie Frank.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Susan Bowles; children, Richard Bowles and wife, Temeki of League City, Randy Bowles of Houston, Matthew Bowles and wife, Patty of Angleton, Marcus Bowles and wife, Katie of Pearland; grandchildren, Lexi, Lauralai, Ayden, Jasper, Jace, and T.J.; nephews, Rick Frank and his wife, Deanna and their daughter, Hillary all of Katy, Carl Frank of Traskwood, AR.

Memorial services will be on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Salem Lutheran Church in Port Lavaca, Texas at 11:00 a.m.

Flossie Bricker

Flossie Bricker, 94, passed away peacefully in Bay City, Texas on October 20. 2018. She was the daughter of Dora Hyack Bertsh and Conrad Bertsch.

Flossie was a devoted and loving wife & mother. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she was in the Women’s Circle.

Flossie was preceded in death by husband Robert Bricker. She is survived by four sons: Jack (Ruth preceded in death), Richard & Paula, Mike & Phyllis, and David & Michelle .

Grandchildren: Stephanie, Shane, Tim (Barbara), Mark (Amy), Lauren Hodges (Jeff), Jennifer Nichols (Phil), and Christina Bricker.

Great grandchildren: Kathryn, Hunter, Mikey, George, Anthony, Mary Clare, Kathryn, Blaise, Richard Alexander, and Maci.

Visitation will begin at 10:00am Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Services will follow at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Graveside services and interment will follow at Lake Side Cemetery in Eagle Lake, TX at 3:00pm. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

William "Bill" Franklin Britton, 75, of Houston, Texas made his Heavenly transition on  August 20, 2018 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas.

He was born November 8, 1942 in Stephenville, Texas.

Bill was retired from the Bay City Police Department, Elsik High School in Houston and the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Clopton.

Bill is survived by his wife, Yvette Woods Britton; daughters, Kesha Stevens and Tina Hopston; son, William "Lil Bill" Britton; and a host of relatives, family and friends

Dorothy Sue Brown passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 28, at the age of 78. She was born on September 12, 1940 to Homer and Katherine (Lenz) Brown. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Palacios. She was loved by many children during her years of working at Rainbowland Daycare.

She is survived by her siblings Dianna (Charlie) Michalik, Doris (Albert) Malaer, Homer (Cheryl) Brown, Ralph (Mary Ann) Brown, Gloria (Ronnie) Benner, Les (Kay) Brown and by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kenneth Brown, two nieces and a nephew.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 31 from 4-6 p.m. with funeral service Monday April 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Palacios. Burial will be at Hawley Cemetery. Rev. Chris Webb will officiate.

Mrs. Wanda Lee Brown, 74, of Coldspring, Texas was born August 7, 1943 in Marble Falls, Texas, to parents, Alvin Green and Velma Jane (Hudson) Green, and passed away February 11, 2018 in Coldspring, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Kimberly Diane Shafer.

She is survived by her husband, Don L. Brown of Coldspring, Texas; sons, Sonny Ware of Bay City, Texas and Matt Ware of Hull Daisetta, Texas; grandchildren, Joshua Shafer of Hallsville, Texas, Ashley Conway of Mont Belvieu, Texas, Briet Campbell of Hull Daisetta, Texas, and Bryson Ware of Old River-Winfrey, Texas; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Michael E. Brune

Michael E. Brune, 67, was born Jan. 2, 1952 to Edmund and Mary Brune in Palacios

and he passed away February 26,2019.

He is survived by his brothers Sonny (JoAnn) Brune, Jack Brune, Royce (Patii) Brune; sisters Joyce Hunter, Mary Ann (Ralph) Brown, Deborah (Rick) Williams; sister-in-law Bobby Brune, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by brother Kenneth Brune, nephew Kyle Weed, sister Sharon Brune Dean and brother in law Trammel Hunter.

Retired Teacher Dies; Rites Set - Lola Vie Bruns

Funeral services for Mrs. Lola Vie Bruns, 84, 3727 Sacramento Ave., will be held at 4 p. m. Friday in Wheeler Funeral Home, El Campo, Tex., with burial in El Campo Cemetery.

Mrs. Bruns, a resident of El Paso 16 years and a member of the Christian Church, died Wednesday. She was a retired teacher. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harry E. Bryant and Mrs. La Vargne Small, all of El Paso, and two sons, S. D. Bruns of El Paso and C. W. Bruns of Hallettsville, Tex. William “Mike” Buffaloe

December 4, 1954 – August 25, 2018

William 'Mike' Buffaloe, 63, passed away on August 25, 2018.

Mike was born a 'cowboy' to Lillie (Murphree) and William Edward Buffaloe on December 4, 1954. He grew up in Bay City, Texas where he began riding horses and working cows at a very young age and never looked back. After marrying Lisa (Novosad) on December 12, 1987, they moved to Needville, Texas and he began to also work as a machine operator for SW Labs and Gulf States Tube, but his heart and soul was always on horseback.

Mike is survived by his wife, Lisa; daughter, Kendal Buffaloe; and daughter, Bailey Gunter and husbband Burley Gunter and grandson Cooper Gunter. Surviving siblings include Sue Brannon and husband Jack, TJ Buffaloe and wife Julia, Patt Chandler and husband Barry, and Todd Buffaloe; along with the clan of Novosad in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.

Mark Allen Burris

Graveside services were held at 9 am Wednesday for one-day old Mark Allen Burris, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Pitts Burris Jr. of Bay City.  The baby was born June 10 [1963] at Matagorda General Hospital and expired June 11.

Rev. Leslie LeGrand officiating at the services at Roselawn Memorial Park.  Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Survivors in addition to the parents are Rev. and Mrs. LeGrand of Bay City and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Pitts Burris Sr. of San Antonio, grandparents.

John David Burrough

February 22, 1939 - February 14, 2019

John David Burrough, 79, of Van Vleck, TX, passed away February 14, 2019. He was born February 22, 1939 in Corsicana, TX. He married the love of his life, Charlotte Stuart and it was on the day that we celebrate love, he was reunited with her in heaven.

Johnny moved his family in December 1976 to Anchorage, Alaska and worked for ARCO on the North Slope. He retired and returned to Texas in 1992. He worked in Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea from 1994-1996. He later worked for Schnieder Trucking and retired in 2004. Johnny most importantly loved spending time with his family. He was an avid trap shooter. Johnny was also a pilot, he and Charlotte loved flying their plane over the Alaskan glaciers and mountains together.  

John is preceded in death by his parents, David Marion Burrough and Bessie Jones Burrough, his sister, Billie Harris and his wife, Charlotte Ann Burrough. He is survived by daughter Terri Smith and husband David of Anchorage, AK; son David Lane Burrough of Van Vleck; grandchildren Dustin Curley, Jessica Corona, Bradley McInnis; great-grandchildren Roman Corona; Gabriel Corona, Nico Corona, Zuli Mae Corona, Jesse James Curley, Wyatt McInnis and Wesley McInnis.

The family will receive friends and relatives 5:00-7:00pm Thursday, February 21 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Services are 2:00pm Friday, February 22, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church in Bay City, TX. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers are Michael Stuart, Jacob Stuart, Robbie Stuart, Dustin Curley, Bradley McInnis, and Joseph Garza.

The family invites friends and relatives to join them in a Celebration of Life gathering at the Van Vleck Community Center following the interment.
