Stephen Lynn Fair was one of three born to the union of the then Wayne and Jackie Fair in Waco, Texas on March 18, 1969. He grew up surrounded by a loving family and many friends. Stephen graduated from Midway High School in 1988. He entered TSTI and received a degree in Instrumentation in 1992. He immediately began working for Phillips 66 on March 16, 1992 in the Pipeline Department. His latest position was that of Supervisor. On April 11, 1992, he married Laney LeAnne Davis, his High School Sweetheart, after a courtship of five and one-half years, at Hewitt First Baptist Church. To this union one daughter, Tanna Ellice, was born. He loved to hunt and fish with his friends, however, his newest love was elk hunting in Colorado with friends. Each summer he, his wife, and daughter spent each weekend in Port Aransas. Stephen has been co-chairperson for Ducks Unlimited for seven (7) years and loved every minute of it. He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Laney, daughter, Tanna, mother Jackie (Sammie) Ivie of Crawford, TX; father Wayne (Lois) Fair of Hewitt; brothers Brian, Mike and David Far and Charlie Turner all of Waco, Terry Fair of Galena, Alaska & Ricky Fair of Hewitt; grandparents James and Frances Holdbrook of Lorena, TX as well as a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6pm to 8pm Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, April 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Brian Fair, Devin Fair, Mike Fair, David Fair, Charlie Turner and James Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Davis, Colby Davis and Dylan Fair.

Funeral services for James Bernard Ferguson, 72, of Markham will be held 2 p. m. Friday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Joe Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery, Blessing. Mr. Ferguson was born May 1, 1917, in Rhode Island and died Sept. 20, 1989, at Matagorda General Hospital. A resident of Markham for 13 years, he was a member of the Catholic church. Survivors include his wife, Zelphia Maxwell Ferguson of Markham; two daughters, Shirley Hock of Bay City and Judy Ray of Orlando, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Evalee Hahn of Bay City and Joyce Genzer of Markham; a stepson, J. O. Frick of Blessing; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers include Johnnie Lee Hahn, Joe Frick, Jacob Frick, Steven Zapalac, Ronnie Piwonka and Hugh Hoffman. Zelphia “Sug” Frick Ferguson, 89, of Bay City passed away May 13, 1997 at Matagorda General Hospital. She was born Oct. 4, 1907 in Mt. Vernon to Robert L. and Madelyn L. Murphy Maxwell. She was a member of the Baptist Church, was a resident of Markham for 70 years before moving to Bay City three years ago. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Evalee and Johnny Hahn of Bay City and Joyce and Stanley Genzer of Markham; daughter-in-law Clara Frick of Markham; two sisters Zella Bohuslav of Markham and Patsy Gunnels of Lake Jackson; one brother Robert Maxwell of Bay City, 16 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Otto Frick; two sons J. O. and V. L. Frick and three sisters Dessie Frick, Della Smith and Myrtle Powell. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday, May 15, 1997 at Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joe Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Frances McClure Fetters, 58, born in Augusta County, Virginia and a resident of Bay City since 1923 died Sunday July 18, 1976 in Matagorda General Hospital. She was a lifelong Member of the First Presbyterian Church. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. Granville T. Storey, a former pastor of First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband Virgil C. Fetters of Bay City; two daughters, Miss Marilyn Jean Fetters of Bay City and Mrs. Marsha F. Winzeler of Houston; and one sister, Mrs. Ralph T. Swenson of Haughton, La. Services will be held Wednesday, July 21, at 2:00 p. m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill O’Neal officiating. Burial will be held at Cedarvale Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers for the service will be Glen I. White, Jack W. Young, Jr., Philip T. Wilson, Melvin J. Blum, James D. Craft, and George R. A memorial service for Virgil Charles Fetters, 72, of Bay City, is scheduled for 2 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 1994, at First Presbyterian Church of Bay City with the Rev. Todd Collier officiating. A private burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery. Mr. Fetters was born March 14, 1922, in a farm house near Myersville in Dewitt County, to Erwin R. and Lillie Wendel Fetters. He was the owner and operator of Fetters Inc. bookkeeping service and served in the United States Air Corps during World War II in the European theater of operations in England, North Africa and Italy. He was an ordained Deacon, Elder and Trustee of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Fetters Winzeler and her husband, Tom, and Marilyn Jean Fetters; a grandson, Eric Lee Winzeler, all of Houston; three step-sons, Jimmie D. Cashion, Tommy M. Cashion and J. L. “Butch” Cashion; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian F. Fitting of McGregor and a brother, Marvin W. Fetters of Cuero. Fields (“Yettie”) was born September 17, 1933 in Bay City, Texas, to Archie and Marilyn Fields. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Funeral services for Hallard Fields "Yittie" will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at First United Missionary Baptist Church in Freeport, with Rev. Mrs. Fields was born in Bay City, Monday, Jan. 3, 1949, and died Thursday, Oct. 5, 1995, at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. She was a member of the 1967 Class of Hilliard High School in Bay City. Her career experience included 20 years employment at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, where she served as Research Technician in the Department of Pathology. Mrs. Fields, a former resident of Bay City, was a member of Brentwood Baptist Church in Houston. Among her religious affiliations included membership with the Adult Sunday School Class II, and a member of the Sanctuary Choir. She also served with the Baptist Women Mission Society, from which she organized the Annual Women’s Prayer Retreat. In Feb., 1993, Sarah Fields became founder of the Brentwood Intercessory Prayer Line, an organization designed to benefit the spiritual aspirations of Brentwood’s 10,000 plus members. Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Lawyer Fields, Jr. of Houston. Also three daughters and one son-in-law, Mrs. Candy Smith-Harris (& Maurice), Ms. Tessila Fields and Ms. Lawrma Fields, all of Houston, and a son, Lawyer Fields, III of Bay City. Also one granddaughter, Canby Janea’ Smith of Houston; her mother, Ms. Nettie Bell Davis of Houston, and a father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lawyer (Tessie) Fields, of Bay City. Also three sisters-in-law, Ms. Debbie Fields Woodard, Mrs. Sherrie Fields Wyche and Mrs. Dianne Fields, and two brothers-in-law, Derrell H. Fields and Bobby Wyche. Waldena “Dena” O. Finster Dena Finster, 77, of Bay City passed away June 12, 1996 at The Hospice of Houston. She was born Sept. 6, 1918 in Bay City, Texas to Walter F. and Gladys Dancer Arlitt. She was a lifelong resident of Bay City and a member of the Episcopal Church. A mass for Charles Martin Fitzmorris, 55, of Galveston, Tx, was held Jan. 5, 2005 at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Hawley Cemetery near Blessing. Mr. Fitzmorris was born Nov. 27, 1949 in New Orleans, LA to the late John Edmond Fitzmorris and Glenna Bess Dorris Fitzmorris. He died Dec. 30, 2004. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the Texas High School Coaches Association. He retired after 30 years of service to Aldine School District and Ball High School. He is survived by his sister, Doris Everett of Palacios and his aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home.

Mr. Flye was born in Waco, Texas, Friday, Feb. 9, 1917, to Steve Flye and Carrie Hurd Flye, and died Sunday, Jan. 21, 1996, in Bay City. Upon moving to Bay City from Eagle Lake, Texas, he established Flye’s Plumbing, which he operated until his death. Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Lee Flye (& Nona), and A. C. Flye, Jr., both of Dallas. Also five grandchildren, Myrtle “Squirt” Plummer (& husband, Lewis, Jr.), A. C. Flye III (& wife, Angaleak), Darryl Flye, Felecia Flye and Rosalind Flye. HE LOVED DEEPLY, HE WAS DEEPLY LOVED, Jim Fojtik, 93, of Bay City went to be with the Lord and his loving wife, Ollie, on June 25, 2012. He was born in Jackson County, Texas, on February 26, 1919, to Frank and Bessie Fojtik. Jim was an amazing man and his life speaks for itself. He was a faithful man: he was faithful to his family, to his church, to his neighbors, to his country. Jim cared for his wife until the day of her death. He was a loving father. He loved spending time with his children and was always there when they needed him. His grandchildren were special to him. He was “Uncle Jimo” to many children not his own. He tended to the church, inside and out, with reverence. Everyone who was blessed to know him loved and respected him. He was honest, kind, with a wonderful sense of humor, and always a gentleman. Jim proudly served his country for 48 years, from 1938 to 1986. He joined the United States Army in January of 1938, and retired on January 31, 1960. During World War II, beginning in 1942, he served with the 9th Infantry Division campaigns in Casablanca, North Africa; Tunisia; Sicily; England; Normandy Beach, France, going ashore on Day 6 after D-Day; Belgium; and Germany. After the European Campaign he was stationed in Italy, then West Germany. In 1949 he returned to the states and was assigned to the 2nd Armored Division in Ft. Hood, Texas. From 1951 to retirement Jim’s tours of duty took him and his family to Baumholder, Germany; Nancy Ordinance Depot, France; and Fort Bliss, Texas. In April 1960, Jim went to work for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as a lock operator. He retired from the Corps on September 3, 1986. After his retirement Jim kept busy with his “ranch,” taking care of his cattle and garden. His second job during this time was to mow lawns, mostly for elderly folks. Survivors include: his daughter, Helen and Bill Moran; sons, Lacy Fojtik and Kit Mok, and Michael and Leah Fojtik; grandchildren, James and Summer Moran, Meghann and Kevin Bass, Alexis Fojtik, Braeden Fojtik, and Landon Fojtik; grandchild, Daniel James Bass; sisters, Hattie and Dick Poole, Bessie Hutson, Agnes Fikes, and Mary Valka. He also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers will be Lacy Fojtik, Michael Fojtik, Bill Moran, James Moran, Louis John Fojtik, Ray Allen Polensky, and Ricky Poole. Honorary pallbearers will be Helen Moran, Tommy Fikes, Bill Fojtik, Robert Fojtik, Wesley Fojtik, Auddie Hutson, Gordon Hutson, Gary Poole, Jeff Poole, Joe Valka, Loddie Valka, and Steve Valka. The dead body of Forest Fortenberry, a prominent farmer of near Blessing, was found early yesterday morning near Tide Haven. The body was terribly mangled, parts of which were scattered along the tracks. Mr. Fortenberry had been to Blessing on horseback and left the latter place about 8 o’clock to return to his home near Tide Haven. The horse arrived at home without the bridle about 11 o’clock at night. Mrs. Fortenberry, fearing some accident had befallen him, sent a Mexican in search of her husband, but he returned later without finding him. At daylight she sent another who found the body near the crossing. It is supposed a passing train struck him, causing his death. Several dollars in silver, which he had in his pockets were scattered along the track. Mr. Fortenberry was a prominent citizen of the Midfield section and was well and favorably known here. He leaves a wife and three children and also three brothers, residing at Midfield, to-wit: Jim, a deputy under Sheriff Carr, Idle and Henry, together with a large number of friends and acquaintances in that and other sections of the country.

Funeral services for Howard Dewayne Fountain, 35, of Bay City, are scheduled for 11 a. m. Saturday, May 13, 1995, at Mother Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating. April 8, 2002 at Specialty Hospital in Houston. He was born November
12, 1928 in Mathis, Texas to the late Rafael and Adelia Garza
Franco. He was a member of Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church and a
resident of Bay City since 1963. Mr. Franco was the owner and
operator of Franco's restaurant.

Funeral services for Ernestine “Tina” Frank, 82 of Bay City, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sam Steele officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing. Tina passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999 after a long illness with lung cancer. She was born March 7, 1916 in Mingus, Texas to Telio and Lula Frances Hursman Andreatta and was the youngest daughter in a family of nine children. She was a resident of Bay City since 1950 and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her son, J. Louis “Corky” Frank and wife Bobbie Jean of Bay City; her sister, La Verne Brown and brother, Ernesto “Jack” Andreatta, both of Santa Barbara, CA.; a granddaughter, Debora Frank of Washington, D. C. and a grandson, James Louis “Jim” Frank and wife Patti Rees Frank of Lafayette, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Louis “Louie” Frank, Jr. in 1982. The family has requested that all remembrances should be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Matagorda County Hospice. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Mrs. Franklin was born in Bay City, Texas, Monday, March 2, 1953, to Ernest Johnson and Maggie Johnson and died Wednesday, November 22, 1995, in Fresno, California. Andrew J. Frazier, aged 91 years 7 months 15 days, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hendly at El Maton, Tuesday, Sept. 8. Funeral services were conducted at Hawley cemetery Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 under the direction of Walker Furniture company.

John Kyle Freeman, 30, of McAllen, Texas, was born August 24, 1980, in Bay City, Texas. Kyle died Wednesday April 6, 2011, in McAllen, Texas. Kyle graduated from Van Vleck High School as Valedictorian and was a graduate of Rice University. He worked for Appirio, a computer technology solutions company based out of California. All who knew him loved him and admired him for how incredibly intelligent and talented he was. He had a generous and kind heart. Kyle knew how to make people laugh and loved doing so through magic, juggling and his humor. He especially loved children. He was a loving husband, son and father. Kyle is survived by: his wife, Mari Freeman and young children, Maia and Collin; his parents, Bob and Sharon Freeman; his brother and sister-in-law, Kurt and Jennifer Freeman; his nephew, Micah Freeman; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday April 10, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church, 3321 Sixth St., Bay City, Texas. Karl Lawrence Fusaro, 73, of Van Vleck passed away September 13, 1995 at Matagorda House in Bay City. He was born August 13, 1922, in Bayville, New York to Pasqally and Ragna Otteson Fusaro. He was a retired Electronics Technician having worked for the Gruman Corporation and Texas Instruments, was a professional piano and accordion player, formerly a driver and attendant of the handicap bus for the Van Vleck ISD, a member of the Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Marine Corp. He was a former resident of Baycliff and Sante Fe having lived in Van Vleck for the past 7 years. He is survived by his wife, Jean Fusaro of Van Vleck, by one daughter and son-in-law, June and Richard Neuwirth of Oakhurst, Texas, by one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Roseanne Fusaro of Bay City and by four grandchildren, Amy Neuwirth, Katie Neuwirth, Mandy Neuwirth, and Richard Neuwirth, Jr. all of Oakhurst, Texas.
