Alfredo Amado Garcia went to be with our Lord and Savior in heaven taking his last breath on this earth on Thursday, June 17, 2021. Alfredo Amado Garcia, was born on May 9, 1996 in Bay City, Texas. He was 25 years of age and lived in Clear Lake, Texas.

A loving husband and father; Alfredo lived for his wife, children and to help others. Although he was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, later in life Alfredo made the conscious decision to live and follow Jesus Christ as an unaffiliated Christian, with his own personal relationship with the Lord.

A friend to all, affectionately known as "Freetos" by his family and many friends, he enjoyed spending time outdoors with his wife and children. He loved playing soccer with his children. He enjoyed watching the Texans football team and also liked Mexico’s soccer team. On his down time, Freetos would continuously write motivational and inspirational quotes in his journal.

Always reaching for his goals and dreams, he planned on attending Remington College for Cosmetology, aspiring to become a hairdresser and barber in the future. The constant life of the party, Freetos loved to dance and joke around. He would spend time recording the antics of life as a husband and father; uploading it all onto his social media to share with others. Katherine Green

October 20, 1934 - October 18, 2021

Annie Katherine Calk Green, 86, walked into heaven, healthy, happy and whole, just before sunrise on Monday, October 18th. While we will miss her, her family rejoices that she is at peace and reunited with those she loved the most. She overcame profound loss and heartache with resilience, the support of dear family and friends, and steadfast dedication to her Lord and Savior.

Born to Felix Clayton and Lillie Constance Kopecky Calk in Collegeport, Texas on October 20th, 1934, she spent her early years in Wadsworth, and graduated from Bay City High School. She married Clarence Marvin “Bubba” Green in 1954. Their marriage was blessed with two wonderful sons, Johnnie Marvin “John” and Clyde Edward “Duke” Green. Many happy days were spent fishing, playing volleyball and making homemade peppermint ice cream with the boys, friends and family at “the camp” at Lake Sam Rayburn and the house on the San Bernard River.

For many years, “Kacky and Bubba” lived on Bayou Drive superbly caring for their mothers who lived beside them, loving their neighbors, and in devoted service to the children’s ministry of their church. They loved the little ones, the needy, Sunday School, and bus routes. They both had a knack for quietly observing those in need and readily offering a meal, an extra set of clothes or a place to stay during times of crisis or distress. To the end of her days, she always sought opportunities to share the gospel with gentleness and care, often with a tract and a sweet prayer.

Katherine was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her beloved sons and three of her siblings and their spouses, Thomas and Lucille Calk, Sadie and Wyatt Ashcraft, Madeline and Kenneth Harris, and Edward Hornaday. She is mourned by her sister, Evelyn Hornaday, and a host of nieces and nephews, especially Clayton and Suzanne Calk. The family would like to thank them for their devoted and compassionate care of Kacky for the past seven years.

Friends are cordially invited for a visitation with the family on Saturday, October 23rd from 2 – 3pm at Taylor Bros Funeral Home, 2313 Avenue I, Bay City, Texas. She loved the family gatherings, especially watching the great-grandchildren running and playing.  She loved reminiscing and talking about past family experiences with all her family.  The holidays were always extra special, watching the kids hunt eggs during Easter or opening their gifts at Christmas time.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlight of her life and brought her so much joy.

Her passion was cooking and baking pastries and experienced by many.  Owning Hamilton’s Bakery and Poncho’s was the highlight of that passion.  She enjoyed greeting all her customers with a smile and a cheerful “Good Morning”!  She always enjoyed taking a little time to talk with all the customers.

In her spare time, she enjoyed her mid-afternoon naps, cooking dinner, watching her novellas and football.  She took one day at a time and was never in a rush.  She believed time was too precious to waste and everyone needed to enjoy every minute.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, we ask to send donations to the Houston Hospice Hospital in her name.

Casey Alayne Gullo

September 08, 1982 - November 12, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Casey Alayne Piwonka Gullo 40, of Austin, TX on November 11, 2022. She was born in Bay City, TX September 8, 1982 to Paul Piwonka and Linda Savage Hatchett.

Casey is survived by her parents Linda (Bowie) Hatchett and Paul (Vickie) Piwonka; children, Ty Woodson, and Whitney and Tripp Gullo; brothers Danny and Mikel Piwonka; sister Samantha Piwonka; nieces, nephews and many many aunts, uncles and cousins.

“Obviously this is something, I assume like most people, something I was never expecting write but occasionally everything goes so wrong so fast that those luxuries like time, options, our hearts and even goodbyes are stripped away in an instant and we are suddenly forced to try and find the best way to tell all the people you love the most the hardest thing you've ever had to say, that we just lost an absolutely beautiful, irreplaceable, forever glowing soul way too soon. Casey was a true Light force that could effortlessly lift anyone's spirits and put a smile on anyone's face any time whether you liked it or not. She definitely did that to me many, many times and some of those times were definitely of the "whether you like or not" variety but always a smile. The world lost a true conduit of light, love, and yeah I think I should mention goofy again along with lots and lots of laughter, literally all the good things in a human. I could literally go on for days and still not be satisfied with that the description of my beautiful little sister, there's just too much to say and some things just have to be experienced. If you were fortunate enough to have even a single opportunity to experience the genuine, loving, beautiful, happy and most importantly, the super goofy energy that swirled around her, I think you should consider yourself lucky because there's just not a lot of people that can handle all those qualities with humility, just really rare in my experience. I know I feel lucky to have had her in my life and this is the hardest thing that I personally have ever experienced and I know I'm not alone in feeling that way today. That being said I will remain forever grateful for every minute she was in my life. I found some comfort and hopefully you can too, in the fact that I know with 100% certainty that in the end she was happy, comfortable and felt loved, she really did. We love you Casey so much and that will never, ever stop.” By Danny Piwonka

Visitation will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, November 19, 2022  at Nichols Street Church of Christ (1200 Nichols Ave., Bay City, TX 77414). Services will be at 2:00 pm with Matt Springfield officiating. There will also be a celebration of life held at the El Maton National Hall following the service.

Reverend Lawrence Prestidge Gwin, Jr.

December 23, 1959 – July 4, 2022

The Reverend Lawrence Prestidge Gwin, Jr. “Fr. Hoss” died Monday, July 4, 2022. He was born December 23, 1959, in Houston, Texas, to Lawrence Prestidge Gwin and Rebekah Witherspoon Pannill Gwin. Hoss graduated from Texas Military Institute, The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Mississippi School of Law, after which, in 1985, he began the practice of law with his father at Gwin and Gwin in Bay City, Texas. He attended Magdalene College, Oxford University and, on December 21, 2002, he was ordained as an Episcopal Priest. His first parish was St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Wharton, Texas, and he was later appointed Vicar at Christ Church Matagorda, the oldest Episcopal parish in Texas, where he continued to serve until his death. Himself an Eagle Scout, he was a life-long supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Matagorda Masonic Lodge No. 7 for thirty years.

Hoss was a kind man with a fierce intellect. He was blessed with an insatiable intellectual curiosity that accessed worlds as diverse as Tolkien and Shakespeare, religious philosophy and quantum physics, western civilization and world travel, scuba diving and aviation. A conversation with Hoss could profoundly change one’s life and attitudes about the world. He died having taken to heart the admonishments of the Roman satirist Juvenal, who called on us to “fortem posce animum mortis terrore carentem,” – to pray for a brave heart that has no fear of death. His firm and unwavering confidence in the heavy price his redeemer paid for him drove him to this conclusion.

He is survived by his beloved wife and son, Roseanne Ritchie Gwin and Samuel Fusaro, his sister Torrey Gwin Hunter, nephew John Torrey Hunter and wife Chelsey White Hunter, great niece Graycen Lea Hunter, extended family Denise Steffek, Monica Ritchie, Vanessa Ritchie, Larisa Ritchie, Vannie Ritchie, Margaret McClintock and many well-loved cousins.

A memorial service will be held on August 27, 2022, at Christ Church Matagorda with The Right Reverend Rayford B. High, Jr. and The Reverend Dr. James E. Ely presiding.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hoss’ memory may be made to Christ Church Matagorda, P.O. Box 673, Matagorda, TX 77457, or Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.
