Campo, TX to the late Fritz and Johanna Gerdis Hibbeler. She was a
member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Legion of Mary, and was a
resident of Bay City for 50 years.

Jack Winston Hamilton, 90, of Bay City, TX, passed away peacefully in Victoria, TX, on May 6, 2015. He was born July 5, 1924, in Cedar Lane, TX, to the late Walter Cape Hamilton and Tommy Omega Washburn Hamilton. Jack was a loving, caring family man. He served in the Navy in WWII, was a proud 50 year member of Pipefitters Union 211 and a life member of Philip H. Parker VFW Post 2438. He is survived by his loving wife, Geneva “Neva” Hamilton; daughters, Jacqueline Matura (Lester) and Carolyn Wells; son, Dennis Hamilton; grandchildren, Thomas Matura (Jennifer), Stephanie Reed (Robby), Elizabeth Rodgers (Matt), Sarah Hudson (Bobby) and Edward Wells; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings Flora Clements, Harry L. Hamilton, James Edgar Hamilton, Susie Ruth “Diddy” Werlla and Walter Cape Hamilton Jr. The family received friends and relatives from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2015, at Taylor Bros. Wilma Gayle “Susie” Hamlin, 69, of Bay City, passed away in her home on April 21, 2015. She was born a twin on January 14, 1946, on the steps of the Matagorda General Hospital. She graduated from Tidehaven High School, where she was active in sports among many other activities, and was a cheerleader at Wharton County Junior College, where she was also voted Miss WCJC. Susie owned and operated A-1 Bail Bonds for thirty-three years, showing a tireless work ethic and compassionate nature to all she encountered. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, serving on the Alter Guild, and an active member of the Matagorda County Pilot Club, Matagorda County 100 Club for many years, and member of American Legion Post 649 Ladies Auxiliary. Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Edith Richardson Hurta; the special love of her life, Oren Hamlin; and her sister, Priscilla Wayman. Survivors include: daughter, Kristi Hamlin McCarthy & husband Michael; daughter, Elaine Fagner & husband Scott; sister, Gay Rayburn & Paul Nichols; brother, Frankie Joe Hurta & wife D’Ann; twin brother, Billy Boy Hurta & wife Anna; brother, Sam “Simon” Hurta; granddaughter, Sarah McCarthy; two nieces, six nephews, and many other family and close friends. She also leaves her special family, friends and caregivers: Evelyn Eure, LaVerne Hicks, Linda Henderson, Karen Huebner, Patti Lyle Johnson, Wendy Saha, and Barbara Sanders. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 23 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 24 at First United Methodist Church in Bay City, with Rev. Dr. Russ Munch officiating. Interment will follow at Midfield Cemetery. Charles Edward Hann, 83, of Bay City, Texas, went home to be with the Lord, April 6, 2015. He attended First Baptist Church of Bay City. He graduated from Lawton High School, in 1949. Among his awards and achievements, during high school, he worked on the school paper, “The Tattler”, was voted most dependable as a freshman, most handsome, and most likely to succeed as sophomore. He continued his education at Cameron Community Junior College, and then went on to University of Texas, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, August 1965. Later, he attended East Texas State University, where he earned a Master of Science in Journalism. Charles served the community of Bay City as a high school teacher, from 1966-1992. He took great pride in directing the publications of the school yearbook, enjoyed assisting with extra-curricular school events, and was awarded as appreciation of services to BCHS, upon retirement. Charles was a dedicated husband and father to his family. He enjoyed woodworking projects, and gardening, especially growing roses, to cut and share with his wife. Charles was born August 17, 1931 in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Burritt Pingrey Hann and Mary Evelyn Monroe Hann. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Letha Inez Wiseley Hann; parents, Burritt Pingrey Hann and Mary Evelyn Monroe Hann; and brother, Phillip Dean Hann. He is survived by children, Candace Lynn Hann Collette of Markham; Fred Burt Hann and wife Tammy of Bay City; and Leslie Warren Hann and wife Donna of Austin; sister, Judy Ray and husband Herbert of Lawton, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Frank Hahn III “Rusty” of Austin, Jody Hahn of Edna, Mark Hahn, Carrie Hahn of Markham, Sanea Granger of Mesquite, Lora Guzman and husband Ralph of Bay City, Chrysta Donahue and husband Mike of Lafayette, LA, Justin Hann, Alison Hann of Austin, Charla Droegemeier and husband David of Killeen; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lanna Joyce Redinger Hargrove, 60, was born in Wharton, Texas on July 7, 1954, to the late Oliver and Sylvia Redinger. She joined her parents; niece, Jessica Yates Wooten; and sister-in-law, Valeria Redinger; in Heaven, on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Lanna had many extraordinary talents. She was an artist who enjoyed painting, and she could envision what others’ trash could become, and then would craft it into her very own treasure. She refinished wood floors and transformed old furniture. Knowing the names of all of the plants and how to care for them, Lanna landscaped her yard into a botanical garden. Her home was always representative of her eclectic, artsy flair. Lanna was the wife of W.T. (Tommy) Hargrove; and the mother of sons, Andrew Gibran Redinger and William Oliver (Will) Hargrove; and daughter, Mia Augusta Hargrove. She was the baby sister of Shirley Jo Garrison (Douglas), Dorothy Ann Yates and Louis Wayne Redinger. She is also survived by six grandchildren. Our sweet angel, W. Janice Cunningham Harvey of Victoria, formerly of Palacios, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord Jesus on April 27, 2015 at the age of 84. Born on February 15, 1931 in Palacios, TX, where she lived all but the last 3 years of her life, Janice was the youngest of four children of Bertha Wolfe Cunningham and Julius Alexander Cunningham. Janice worked for the Palacios ISD for 15 years in the Administration Office and loved being of service to the community. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church all her life. She and Royce attended Grace Presbyterian Church when they moved to Victoria in April of 2012. She was and is a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Known for her sweet and easy smile she was liked and loved by all whose lives she touched. She loved doing things for her family and friends, especially designing and sewing useful items as gifts. She loved music, attending country opry all around the area with Royce. They enjoyed many years of traveling and camping in the beautiful parks of our great state and nation. Preceded in death by her parents and both her brothers and sister, Janice is survived by the love of her life, husband of 67 years, Royce L. Harvey, her daughter Barbara Henry (James) of Victoria, TX, son Ralph Harvey (Janice) of Bullard, TX; Four Grandchildren: Master Sargent Frank L. Dirr, Jr. presently of Wichita Falls, TX, Amanda Schreiner (Tim) of Cameron, TX, Samuel Harvey (Andrea) of College Station, TX, Nathan Harvey (Taylor) of Fort Worth, TX. Janice has three great-grandchildren, Shelby Hope Schreiner, Caleb Royce Harvey and Victoria Grace Schreiner, also beloved sister-in-law, Gloria Dixon of Palacios, and brother-in-law Herschel Harvey (Lynn) of Boling, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her caregivers Martha Espinoza & family, and Hospice of South Texas. Family visitation will be Thursday, April 30, from 5 to 7 pm at the Palacios Funeral Home. Royce LaBlon Harvey, 91, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2021 with family by his side. He was born September 27, 1929, in Collegeport, TX, to Eugene Foster Harvey and Eleanor Woods Harvey. A Resident of Victoria in recent years, Royce always called Palacios his home. Royce enjoyed 67 years of marriage to his high school sweetheart, Janice Cunningham Harvey, who preceded him in death in 2015. His very close younger brother, Herschel, also preceded him and is waiting for him at the “fishin’ hole”. Surviving to celebrate his life are his daughter Barbara (James) Henry of Victoria, son Ralph (Janice) Harvey of Bullard, sister Gloria Dixon of Palacios and sister-in-law Lynn Colwell Harvey of Bolling. Royce’s grandchildren are: Frank Dirr, Jr., Amanda (Tim) Schreiner, Samuel (Andrea) Harvey, and Nathan (Taylor) Harvey. Six great-grandchildren will miss their “Paw Paw”: Shelby, Caleb Royce, Victoria, Brooklyn, Royce James, and Cooper James. Royce also enjoyed his nephews and niece: Paul Culbreth, Daniel Culbreth, Duane Alford, Chad Harvey, and Anna Harvey Wood and is survived by numerous great nieces and nephews. Also left behind is his special dear friend, Jerri Milligan Ellis Petri (and her two little dogs), whose company he has greatly enjoyed in recent years. Royce worked on the construction of the Point Comfort Alcoa plant and then worked there for 37 years before his retirement. Most of those years he operated a crane in the pot rooms. He was pictured in a special article pouring the very first ingot of aluminum produced there. He was 21 at that time. Royce loyally attended the Annual Alcoa 25-year Club dinners until recently. Royce and Janice loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, family camping, and driving to visit national parks all over the country. They also loved county music, regularly attending country opries all over the area. Royce loved laughing at a good story, and ALL John Wayne movies. He was also a very sharp domino player. During WWII, young Royce did all the family driving, teaching his grandfather, Virgil, to drive while the other men were away in the war effort. Royce valued elder family members and family reunions and often visited his ancestorial home of Broaddus in East Texas. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios, serving as a Deacon for many years. A memorial service and internment of his cremated remains will follow at a date to be announced. Honorary pallbearers will include: Frank Dirr, Jr., Paul Culbreth, Dan Culbreth, Chad Harvey, Duane Alford, Tim Schreiner, Sam Harvey, Nathan Harvey, James Henry and Larry (Eddy) Glenn. On the morning of May 4, 2015, Jonathan Wayne Haverlah, moved to his heavenly home. He is the son of Bennie Louis Haverlah and Regina Francis Haverlah, and heart-mother, Margaret Haverlah. Born in Bay City on December 10, 1958, Jonathan was a graduate of Bay City High School. Jonathan is survived by his dad and his heart- mother; sisters, Elise Moore (Travis), Anna Ogletree (Robert), Cynthia Gibbs (Kevin), Sandra Hay (Brent); brothers, Chuck Haverlah, and Ken-Buster Haverlah (Sherri); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, of whom he was very proud; as well as a multitude of cousins and friends. Wayne was always wise-cracking and up for a good prank. He was fiercely independent and immeasurably kind, and never let his disabilities get in the way of living his life to the absolute fullest. A Memorial Service was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015, at West End Baptist Church in Industry, under the direction of Dennis Keen. Janie Samora Hernandez, 97, of Palacios passed away April 3, 2015. She was born September 9, 1917 in Palacios, Texas to the late Jose Samora and Elijia Nunez Samora. She was preceded in death by her husband Federico Hernandez, daughters Cindy Hernandez, Rachel Buckley and Julia Martinez and a grandson, Fred Martinez. Survivors include daughters Virginia H. Zarate of Bay City and Esmeralda Hernandez of Palacios; grandchildren Mark Martinez, Pete Martinez, Jr., Regina Martinez, Rene Martinez, Ricky Zarate, Cecilia Zarate, Roland Zarate, Alfred Buckley, Carol Gonzales, Michael Garcia, Carlos Garcia and Karen Valdez; 23 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren. Esther was a graduate of Van Vleck High School, Class of 1953 and a resident of Bay City for 60 years. She loved animals, especially cats and horses. Esther was a loving and caring person, wonderful daughter, sister, aunt and friend Esther is survived by her brother A. C. Claude B. Hines Funeral services for Claude B. Hines, 73, of Bay City were scheduled for 3 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. W. E. Dugger Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City. Mr. Hines was born May 19, 1915, in Bainbridge, Ga., to Louis Fleming and Bobbie Jones Hines and died Sept. 24, 1988, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City. A resident of Bay City for 33 years, he was a veteran of the U. S. Army engineers. He was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include his wife, Hildred O’Neal Hines of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Claudette and Carol Bailey of Richardson, Texas; two sisters, Ruby Casey of Georgia and Lucy Wheeler of Florida; a brother, Fred Hines of Florida; three grandchildren, Cathryn McGregor, Adrienne Carrington, Brenda Bailey and Carla Bailey; a great-granddaughter, Christyn McGregor; and a great-grandson, Carl Carrington. PALACIOS - Don Royce Holt of Palacios died February 27, 2015 at the age of 76. He was born August 5, 1938 in Batesville, Arkansas to the late William and Mildred Gould Holt. He was a supervisor at Cal Oil and previously a foreman at Union Carbide. He is survived by his daughters Pam Thompson of Florida, Litia Bolhig of Foresthill, CA, Tina Craig of Boseman, MT, Lorrie Moirano of Vacaville, CA, Terri Kokal of Vallejo, CA, and Donna Hoover of Martinez, CA; sister Joan Lincicom of Livermore, CA, Fiancee Myrna Hansen of El Campo, TX; 15 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jackie Holt and sister Marie Ann Redmond. Memorial services will be Sunday, March 8, 2015, 10:30AM at the Carancahua Community Center. Marion Lynn “Fuzzy” Howarton Sr., 74, went home to be with his Master and Lord on March 14, 2015. Marion battled cancer, heart disease and sepsis, finally winning this battle, Saturday, at his beloved riverfront home in Selkirk, that he shared with his bride of 34 years, Vickie Elizabeth. Born on May 5, 1940, in Goldthwaite, Texas, to Rachel and JB Howarton. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rachel in 1943. Harvey and Mary Morris then fostered, loved, nurtured, and raised Marion to the man we all knew and loved. Marion was preceded in death by his three sons, Roy Lewis, Marion Lynn Jr. and Michael Lewis, and was happy to meet them at the gates of heaven, with arms wide open. Marion shared a passion with his sons for automotive mechanics, racing, fishing, boating and a good joke, whenever they were together. Marion was the proprietor of Howarton’s Automotive in Bay City, along with his loving wife and grandson. He lived a long and fun-filled life in youth and on into his senior years. If he wasn’t racing the back roads of Mills County, he was looking to soup-up any and every hot rod he came across. Marion always found a good time and was the life of any event he attended, making new friends at every crossroads in his life, by sharing jokes and life experiences, rivaled only by Hollywood tales. If you were around Marion, he made sure you left in good spirits, and knew that God was still God and He loved you. Marion mentored many youth in his day - from Boy Scouts to volunteer fire fighting - he was always ready to lend a hand and help out. This was made most evident when he took his grandson Edmond, and began preparing him to take over the family business. Edmond is the son of Roy Lewis, husband to Shannon, and father to great-grandchildren, Logan and Morgan. Marion raised a daughter, Mari Michelle of Victoria, wife to Jerry Krogsgaard Jr., and mother to grandsons, Garett and Cash, and granddaughter Ava. She was his princess, and he took great pride in her accomplishments. Garett and Cash will always remember grandpa as the one who taught them to use a knife. Harvey Lynn, grandson, lives in Bloomington, he is the son of Marion Lynn Jr. and is married to Jessica, and father to great-granddaughters, Dakota and Emily. Harvey was the apple of Marion’s eye and followed in the family footsteps of being a diesel mechanic. Alexis Brooke of Alvin is granddaughter and daughter of Michael Lewis, she is a student of microbiology at university. Alexis was his pretty little lady. Marion’s granddaughters, Patricia and Chrystal, relished every opportunity to spend time with their grandfather. Also preceding him in death were his siblings, Raymond Glenn, Alfred “Curly”, Christine and Baby Doll. Marion was an active member of 1st Baptist Church in Matagorda, where he and his wife worshiped, taught and praised the Lord. After his last battle with cancer, he decided to rededicate his life to the Lord, with visible affirmation of baptism, and could not have been more ready to meet his creator. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends will mourn the loss of their dear friend and family member, but all will rejoice in the lives they shared with him, and surely will count their hearts blessed, for being touched by this sweet spirit of a man that walked with purpose and much love! George Arthur Hubert III was born June
29, 1933 in Houston, Texas and left this Earth on January 12, 2015
at his home at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 14 days. George,
or as he was called, Buddy, was second of five children born to
George and Helen Hubert. He was raised in the Almeda Genoa Telephone
Road area and went to Milby High School. Buddy joined the U.S. Navy
like his uncle Virgil serving on The USS Vulcan for 3 years, 1
month, and 27 days. After being discharged from the Navy, he
returned to work as a boilmaker, later working side-by-side with his
father in the valve repair business. Soon, Major Enterprise was born
and so the story goes; lots of lifelong friends were made. He worked
up until his passing. |

Beatrice Alice Hufstetler passed away June 25, 2008, at the age of 88. "Bea" was born January 29, 1920 in New Ulm, TX to Max Franke, Sr and Emma Louise (Bollman) Franke. She married Robert Edward (Ed) Hufstetler in April 1958 who preceded her in death in 1997. Also preceding her in death are sisters Roxie Franke, Maynola Franke Mueller, and brothers Wilburn, Milton and Max Franke. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ray and Karen Hallford of Austin, TX, daughter and son-in law Sharon and Steve Adams of Austin, TX and daughter Shirley Hall of League City, TX, brothers Ralph Franke and wife Patsy of Harker Heights, TX, and Roy Franke and wife Mona of Pampa, TX. She was blessed by grandchildren Scott McFarlin, Amy Hallford Turman, Julianne and James Hall and Ryan Adams. She was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bay City, TX for several years. During the last 10 years of her life she lived with her daughter Shirley Hall in League City, TX and it was such a blessing for her to live at her home. Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 3000 9th St in Bay City, TX at 3:00pm Sunday, June 29, 2008 with the Rev. Preston Weatherly officiating.
