Albert Frank Hahn

EL MATON--Funeral services were held for Albert Frank Hahn, 69, at 2 p. m. April 16 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jerome Stryk officiating.

Interment was in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.

A rosary had been recited at St. Peter's April 15.

Hahn died April 14 in St. Luke's Hospital in Houston.

Born Aug. 6, 1913 in Cuero, he had been a retired rigger foreman from ARMCO with 33 years service, was a former resident of Galena Park adn a former street and bridge commissioner of Galena Park.

He is survived by his wife Mildred Orsak Hahn of El Maton, two daughters, Laverne Wiles of Houston and Marilyn Stewart of San Francisco; three sisters, Annie and Helen Henkes of Bay City and Mary Hamala of Houston; a brother, Frank Hahn of El Maton; and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Philip Wiles Jr., Matthew and Thomas Wiles, Stephen, Patrick and Christopher Stewart, Frank and Paul Hahn.

Honorary pallbearers were Douglas and Mark Lezak, Rudolph Stasta, B. A. Janak, Edward Dornak, Lawrence Hickl and members of the Knights of Columbus of St. Peter's Catholic CHurch, of which Hahn was a member.

Sunday Rites Will Be Held Blessing For Mrs. Augusta Hahn

Mrs. Augusta Hahn, resident of Elmaton for the past 17 years, passes away at the family residence Friday morning, Sept. 7, at the age of 70 years, one month.

Funeral services will be held from the Blessing Catholic church at 4:00 p. m., Sunday, Sept. 9, with Rev. Fr. H. L. Bauman officiating. Burial will be in the Blessing Catholic cemetery. Taylor Bros. funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hahn is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Sophie Zielonka of Cuero, Mrs. Julia Ledwig and Mrs. Helen Henkes of Markham, and Mrs.. Annie Henkes of Elmaton and Mrs. Mary Hamala of Galena Park, Tex.; six sons, John and Sylvester of Elmaton, Joe of Markham, Albert of Galena Park, Jerry of Yorktown, Tex., and Frank of the U. S. armed forces; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Reinhardt and Mrs. Frances Schwartzberg of Galveston, Mrs. Rosie Hahn of Wadsworth and Mrs. Gertrude Lipinski of Bay City; one brother, August Hadamek of Cuero.

Dorothy Gene Nicholas Hahn

Funeral services for Dorothy Gene Nicholas Hahn, 61, of El Maton were scheduled for 10 a. m. today at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Blessing, with the Rev. Peter Higgins officiating. Burial to follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Blessing.

A rosary was held 7 p. m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Hahn was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Freestone County, Texas, to Leslie Jody and Lena Rivers Harris Nicholas and died Jan. 16, 1990 at St. Luke's Hospital, Houston.

A resident of El Maton since 1951, she was secretary-treasurer for the S. P. J. S. T. and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Blessing.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Hahn Sr. of El Maton; mother, Lena Rivers Helms of El Maton; four daughters, Patricia Gene Hahn and Gay Lynn Thurmond of El Maton, Diann Marie Bice of Inboden, Ark., and Dottie A Wason of Pasadena; three sons, Richard F. Hahn Sr., Frank W. "Rusty" Hahn Jr. and Paul Louis Hahn, al of El Maton; a brother, Thomas Orvill Nicholas of Teague, Texas; and 18 grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Jody Junek, Gary Orsak, Donnie Garney, Ronnie Hickl, Donnie Hickl, David Zielonka and James Henkie.

Frank William Hahn

Frank William Hahn, Sr., 82, of El Maton, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2004 in Houston, Texas.

He was born October 18, 1921 in Westhoff, Texas to Louis Hahn and Augusta Hadamicek Hahn.

He was a resident of El Maton since 1928, a member of SPJST Lodge 148, and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing.

The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2004 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing.

The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2004 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. Samuel Appiasi, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Blessing.

El Maton Farmer Commits Suicide
Jumps in River; Wife and Children Witness Tragedy

Louis Hahn, 35, Bohemian farmer of El Maton, committed suicide Monday by leaping in the river that is near his house. He ran from his house toward the river with his wife and two sons frantically attempting to reach him to prevent the tragedy they felt was near. They reached the banks just in time to witness the despondent man leap in water twenty feet deep. The cause was attributed to poor health and crop failure. The body was handled by Walker Undertaking Parlors and the funeral was held yesterday at Blessing.

Mary Hahn

Funeral services for Mary Hahn, 87, of Blessing are scheduled for 1 p. m. today at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Peter Higgins officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Blessing.

Mary Hahn passed away Dec. 28, at Matagorda House in Bay City. She was born Jan. 9, 1910 in Groveton to Joseph F. and Marie Tomek. She had been a resident of Blessing for 60 years; was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church; a member of the Altar Society and a member of the KJZT.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Hahn; a sister, Lillie Tomek; and three brothers, Joe Tomek and Louis Tomek and Bennie Tomek.

She is survived by four sisters-in-law, Rose Tomek, Annie Henkes and Helen Henkes, all of Bay City and Mary Hamala of Houston; by a brother-in-law, Frankie Hahn of Blessing, and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Bob Sevcik, Johnny Hahn, Jimmy Henkes, Gary Tomek, Michael Tomek and Gregg Tomek. Honorary pallbearers include Carl Jager, Sonny Johs, Dennis Busha and Michael Busha.

Mildred Marie Hahn

Funeral services for Mildred Marie Hahn, 75, of Houston, formerly of El Maton, will be held 10 a. m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Blessing, with the Rev. Peter Higgins and the Rev. Philip A. Wiles officiating. Burial to follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Blessing.

A rosary will be held 7:30 p. m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Hahn was born Feb. 24, 1915, in Schulenburg to Frank O. and Frances Angeline Prlucik Orsak and died March 27, 1990 in Houston.

Prior to moving to Houston six years ago, she was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church Altar Society. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Center in Houston, S. P. J. S. T. and the Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, La Verne and Philip A. Wiles of Houston and Marilyn and David Stewart of El Paso; two sisters, Edna Mae Wright of San Cruz, Calif., and Willie Junek of Palacios; two brothers, Archie Orsak of Bay City and Siddie Orsak of Boling; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include her grandsons, Philip A. Wiles Jr. Matthew Wiles, Stephen Stewart, Patrick Stewart, Thomas Wiles and Christopher Stewart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Frank Hahn, in 1983.

Services will be held for Sylvester Joseph Hahn, 78, of Blessing, 9:30 a. m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church of Blessing.

Hahn died January 3, 1983 at his residence.

James R. Harvey

EL CAMPO--James R. Harvey of El Campo died July 25, 2009 at the age of 48. He was born on June 21, 1961 in Palacios to Early A. and Johnnie Lee Harvey. He was an auto mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Vyvial Harvey of El Campo; mother, Johnnie Lee Harvey of Palacios; stepchildren, Donna Garcia, David Kacer, Rhonda Mangel, Tony Kacer, Diane Bustamante and Patrick Kacer; brothers, Dennis Harvey, Glenn Eddie Harvey, Johnny Harvey; sisters, Rose Mary Williams, Laura Claborn, and Wendy Spiegel.

He was preceded in death by his father, sister, Jackie Backus; brother, Leonard Harvey; stepdaughter, Annette Kacer; and step-grandsons, Mark Garcia and Kobe Kacer.

Visitation will begin at 2 p. m., Monday at Triska Funeral Home. A parish rosary will be recited 1:30 p. m., Tuesday, at St. Philip Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Blessing.

Janet Harvey

August 2, 1947 - December 12, 2020

Janet Elizabeth Vyvial Harvey, 73, of El Campo, passed away on December 12, 2020. She was born on August 2, 1947 in Ganado to the late Roman and Annie Kazmir Vyvial. She was a caregiver, homemaker and former activity director at SPJST Nursing Home in Hillje. She was member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court 1374.

She is survived by her children, Donna Garcia and husband Steve of Palacios, David Kacer and wife Veronica of Palacios, Rhonda Mangel and husband Michael of Rosenberg, Tony Kacer and wife Scarlett of El Maton, Diane Wallace of El Campo and Patrick Kacer of Angleton; 21 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and sisters, Andie Chambless of Ganado, Mona Hahn of Lolita and Joyce Rozner of Bay City.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Harvey; daughter, Annette Kacer; grandsons, Mark Garcia and Koby Kacer; brothers, Leo and Eugene Vyvial and sister, Gladys Berger.

Visitation begins 9 a.m. Wednesday, December 16 at St. Philip Catholic Church with a Rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass follows at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Rother officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Blessing.

Alois J. Havel

Alois J. Havel, 47, of Port Lavaca, died Friday, October 8, in a San Antonio Hospital.

Rosary was recited at 7 p. m. Monday in the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with military graveside services and burial in St. Peter's Cemetery.

A native of Schulenburg, he had been a resident of Port Lavaca for 27 years and had been employed by Alcoa Aluminum at Point Comfort for the past 23 years.

He served with the U. S. Army in Germany in 1951 and 1952 and was a member of VFW Post 4403 in Port Lavaca and American Legion Cecil Lee Post in Blessing.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Havel, Sr., of Blessing; two daughters Bonita and Callie Havel; two sons, David and Anthony Havel, all of Baytown and two sisters, Mrs. Teresa Shimek of Palacios and Mrs. Margaret Smaistrla of East Bernard; three brothers, Frank Havel of Blessing, Thomas Havel, Jr., of Alta Loma and Henry Havel of West Columbia.

Antonia M. Havel

Funeral services for Antonia M. Havel, 81, of Blessing, were scheduled for 3 p. m. today at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Blessing, with the Rev. Dan O'Brien officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Havel was born May 29, 1904, in Schulenburg, Texas, and died Aug. 14, 1984, at her residence.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Blessing.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Shimek of Palacios and Margaret Smaistrla of East Bernard; three sons, Thomas Havel Sr. of Alvin, Frank Havel of Blessing and Henry Havel of West Columbia; three sisters, Annie Kosler of Victoria, Gertrude Goetz of Indianola and Martha Baggett of Florida; three brothers, Jim Jurek of Bay City, Joe Jurek of Bay City and Louis Jurek of Clemville; 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

June Marlene Havel

June 7, 1935 - May 14, 2006

June Marlene Havel, 70, of Blessing passed away Sunday, May 14, 2006 in Houston, Texas.

She was born June 7, 1935 in San Antonio to the late Alfred and Mabel Pasal Christie. Mrs. Havel was a life long resident of Blessing, a Teacher's Aid/Secretary for Blessing Elementary School for 26 years, and member of: St. Peters Catholic Church, Blessing American Legion Ladies Jr. Auxiliary Post 649, and ATPE.

She is survived by: her husband, Frank J. Havel of Blessing; two daughters, Katherine Mauch of Blessing, and Sarah Sless of Louise; four sons, Douglas Havel of Houston, Dennis Havel of Corpus Christi, Kenneth Havel of Bulverde, and Roger Havel of Blessing; 27 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Havel was preceded in death by her parents and aunt.

A Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Palacios Funeral Home. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at St. Peter's Catholic Church of Blessing with the Father Sam Appiasi officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eric, Joshua, Lee, and Sterling Havel, Matt Mauch, and Troy Sless.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mrs. Havel's grandchildren, great grandchildren, Pete Estrello, Henry Havel, Scott Jackson, and Albert Smaistrla.

Thomas Joseph Havel, Jr.

Funeral services for Thomas Joseph Havel, Jr., 55, of Texas City were scheduled to be held at 2 p. m. today at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with teh Rev. Peter Higgins officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Blessing.

He was born Nov. 29, 1930, in Ashby, Texas, and died Oct. 27, 1986, at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. He was the son of the late Thomas Joseph Havel Sr. and the former Antonia Klesel.

Survivors include: daughters, Carol Lewis of Santa Fe and Theresa Millard of Santa Fe; sons, Thomas J. Havel III of Iowa Colony, Texas, and James R. Havel of Ackerman, Miss; sisters, Margaret Smaisrla of East Bernard and Teresa Shimek of Palacios; brothers, Frank Havel of Blessing and Henry Havel of West Columbia; and nine grandchildren.

He was member of the Catholic Church and a resident of the Alvin area for about 20 years.

Thomas Havel

Funeral services for Thomas Havel, 80, were held Jan. 23 at 10 a. m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. Jerome Stryk officiating. Interment followed at St. Peter's Cemetery in Blessing. A rosary service was held Jan. 22 at 7 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel.

Havel, the son of Anton and Tereza Jusko Havel, was born Dec. 8, 1903 in Prague, Czechoslovakia and died Jan. 20, 1984 at Wagner General Hospital. He was a custodian at Tidehaven Schools. He had been a resident since 1928 and was associated with the Izidor Society.

Survivors include his wife, Antonia Klesel Havel of Blessing; two daughters, Margaret Smistrla of East Bernard and Teresa Shimek of Palacios; three sons, Frank Havel of Blessing, Henry Havel of West Columbia and Thomas Havel of Corpus Christi; one sister, Josephine Hrncirik of Gonzales; 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Arnold Joseph Hebert, Sr.

Funeral services for Arnold Joseph Hebert, Sr., of Markham were held Monday morning, Aug. 11, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with the Rev. Jerome Stryk officiating. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery.

He was born December 19, 1899 in Iota, La., and passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mattie Dee Hebert of Markham, two daughters, Mrs. Joy Elaine King of Houston, Mrs. Barbara Ann Junek of Palacios; two sons, A. J. Hebert, Jr., of Palacios, Shelton Lee Hebert of Victoria; three sisters, Mrs. Ida LeJeune and Mrs. Mary LeJeune of Iota, La., Mrs.. Edna McFarland of Kingsville; one brother, Rufus Hebert of Eunice, La.; 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mattie Dee Whitley Hebert

Mattie Dee Whitley Hebert, 89, of Palacios and formerly a long time resident of Markham died August 24, 2001 at the Palacios Healthcare Center in Palacios. She was born January 20, 1912 in El Campo, to the late Lige Dee and Beulah Mae Lynch Whitley.

Mrs. Hebert was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing.

Survivors include: two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Junek of Palacios, Joy and David King of Houston; two sons and daughters-in-law, A. J. and Pat Hebert of Palacios, Shelton and Janie Hebert of Victoria; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband A. J. Hebert, Sr., two sisters, Verlie Mae Steinmeyer, and Lavada Etta Shivers, and by her brother Ross Whitley.

A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Palacios Funeral Home, and the Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Monday, August 27 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with the Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Interment followed at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Larry and Bruce Junek, Philip, Charles and Steven King and Nathan Demicelli.

Honorary pallbearers were the remaining grandchildren and great grand children.

Annie Henkes

Annie Henkes, 92, of Bay City died June 16, 2004 at Bay Villa Nursing Home. She was born June 23, 1911 in Cuero, Texas to the late Louis and Augusta Hadamek Hahn.

Mrs. Henkes was a resident of Bay City the past 35 years, a former resident of El Maton and was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Blessing.

Survivors include: six daughters and four sons-in-law, Dorothy Mazyn of Houston, Texas, Elenora Davis of Niceville, Florida, Betty Jean and Johnny Jozwiak of Bedias, Texas, Lorene and Willard Buff of Spring, Texas, Annette and Jimmie Naiser of Houston, Texas, and Mary Ann and Billy Freeman of Missouri City, Texas; sons, Willie Henkes and Jimmy Henkes both of Palacios, Texas; brother, Frank Hahn of Blessing, Texas; 28 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband Frank Richard Henkes; daughter, Joyce Miller; grandchildren, Vernon, Wayne and Roy Henkes; five sisters and five brothers.

Rosary was 7 p.m. Friday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, and the Funeral mass was 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peters Catholic Church in Blessing with the Rev. Sam Appiasi officiating. Interment followed at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery.

Frank R. Henkes

HENKES, Frank R., 67, of Bay City passed away in Victoria, May 4. Mr. Henkes was a member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Blessing Knights of Columbus. Rosary will be said Friday, May 5 at 8 p. m. at Taylor Bros. Funeral home with Msgr. C. R. Martin officiating at the service. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery in Blessing, May 6 at 10:00 a. m. with the Rev. Jerome Stryk officiating. Interment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery in Blessing. Survivors include: wife Anne A. Henkes of Bay City; 7 daughters: Mrs. Dorothy Mazyn, Mrs. Betty Jean Jozwiak and Mrs. Annette Naiser of Houston, Mrs. Joyce Miller of El Campo, Mrs. Eleanor Davis of Niceville, Fla., Mrs. Lorene Buff and Mrs. Mary Ann Freeman of Bay City; 2 sons: Willie F. Henkes of Palacios and James L. Henkes, Sr. of Wadsworth; 7 sisters: Mrs. Pauline Zuber, Mrs.. Vic Kozielski, Mrs. Martha Kozielski and Mrs. Cecelia Arnold of Yorktown, Mrs. Rosie Ebrom of Westoff and Mrs. Clara Brall and Mrs. Annie Zuber of Cuero; 2 brothers: Herman Henkes and Mike Henkes of Cuero; and 28 grandchildren Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Helen Hahn Henkes

Rosary services for Helen Hahn Henkes, 89, of Bay City was held at 7:30 p. m. Monday, Oct. 19, 1998 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at St Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Blessing.

Henkes died Friday, Oct. 16 in El Campo. She was born May 15, 1909 in Arneckeville, TX to Louis Hahn and Agusta Adamik Hahn. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a lifelong resident of Bay City and a member of the Legion of Mary.

Henkes is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Max Force of St. Edward, Neb., and Barbara  and Anton Staff of Bay City; sister, Mary Hamala of Houston and Annie Henkes of Bay City; brother, Frank Hahn of El Maton; devoted sister-in-law, Katie Hahn; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Louis Svetlik and Michael Henkes; daughter, Mary Ann Henkes; and son Louis Svetlik.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
