He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Monique Mangum Harrison; son Eric Harrison; brothers Vernon Harrison, Jr. (Brenda), David Harrison (Fay); sisters Suzanne Bartholomew (Karl), Eleanor Burgess (Brett), and sister-in-law Mary Cangelosi Harrison.

Larry was born and raised in Bay City, Texas. He was the third of six children. His father and uncles were a large rice-farming family, and Larry had fond and funny memories of growing up and working with his brothers and cousins in the rice fields. He graduated from Bay City High School in 1968. He attended Lamar University and graduated in 1972 with a BBA in Accounting. He was a member of the Zeta Psi chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity. He continued his education at St. Mary’s Law School in San Antonio and graduated with his Juris Doctor in 1975. While at St. Mary’s, he served as an Associate Editor for the St. Mary’s Law Journal. He served six years in the US Army Reserve from 1970 to 1975.

When Larry was 12 years old, he saw the movie, To Kill a Mockingbird. He was so moved by the movie that it inspired him to become an attorney. After graduating from St. Mary’s Law School, he moved to Houston, then eventually to Sugar Land. He pursued board certification by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and became a Board-Certified Personal Injury Trial Law attorney in 1988, serving Fort Bend County. He maintained that status through ongoing education and recertification. He was well-respected by his peers for his wisdom and leadership skills. His great desire was to help those who had suffered a loss related to personal injury, which led him to devote many hours to pro bono attorney work. His success and dedication over the course of his career earned him many honors, including a Martindale-Hubbell Rating of AV Preeminent and a listing as a Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyer from 2008 to present. He served as past president of the Fort Bend County Bar Association and on its Board of Directors.

Wishing to share his knowledge and experience with others, Larry served as an Adjunct Professor at University of Houston – Victoria School of Business Administration from 2007 until 2022.

Larry was a leader in the Fort Bend County community and served on numerous committees and boards throughout the years. He was a member of many professional organizations.

While a student at BCHS, he was President of the Student Body, President of his Freshman and Junior classes, and chosen as Mr. Bay City High School.

Larry had a lifelong passion for movies, which led him to membership and involvement in the Houston Film Critics Society. His movie reviews appeared in many publications, providing moviegoers with over 1,000 film reviews from 1997 to 2018.

Larry loved supercars and was known to take the occasional “loop around the track”, as he put it. He enjoyed competitive shooting and competed in the US Practical Shooting Association for many years.

Larry was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1989. His faith was enriched through participation in ongoing Bible studies, a Walk to Emmaus in 1993, and through his longtime involvement with his Emmaus reunion group. He attended an annual Manresa three-day silent retreat in Convent, Louisiana with several friends for years. He was a beloved mentor of Christ United Methodist Church’s youth, and he served as a Cub Scout leader and as a sports coach.

Larry was a lover of God and of life. He was enthusiastic about growing in the Lord. He was a fighter when he was sick. He had miraculous recoveries – we often said we lost count of how many lives he had had. He was sociable, yet he loved being at home, too. He loved being an attorney and loved going to the office. He loved helping people. He loved teaching. He was a loyal friend. He was a wonderful father and husband with a great sense of humor. Larry’s contributions to his family, friends, and community were countless, and he will be greatly missed.

Peggy Ruth Fanson Hart

November 22, 1937 – April 10, 2024

Peggy Ruth finally got what she’d been hoping for over the past three years, ever since our dad passed away…. She collapsed on the day of a solar eclipse and two days later she left us, along with a TORNADO in SLIDELL, LA (former hometown) in her wake! Unfortunately, it seems she choked on a chocolate Kit-Kat bar and got aspiration pneumonia. Mom started every day with her most important task; to retrieve her morning Seattle Times newsPAPER! (Never that on-line stuff). And to be sure, people heard about it if it was late! Anyway, we came to believe that she only glanced the headlines, and the most important sections were the “Puzzles and the obits”! She never missed a one! So, with that being said, of course she wrote her own! Many years ago, and left instructions to “just fill in the blanks”. Enjoy:

“Peggy Ruth Fanson Hart: Having grown up at the “Picture Show”, as a little girl her plan was to be a famous actress, and she did play many roles, but fortunately, she was able to avoid fame; therefore, unknown, except to family, friends, a few duplicate bridge players, and some former Bellevue, WA misdemeanants. Peggy, age 86, resident of Whidbey Island, and former long-time Redmond, WA resident, as a result of purity, and decrepitude will depart the planet VIA Estes rocket, (orbital flight too pricey).

To those who did know her, she was punctual, prepared, prudent, polite, pretentious, patronizing, Presbyterian, practical, patient, and at times the opposite of all of the above. She was the only child of Alice Longwood Fanson and John Elmer Fanson; born in Hallettsville, TX, grew up in Bay City, TX, attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA; BA from Franklin College of Franklin Indiana; Seattle University Alcoholic Studies Certification, Seattle. She tutored and taught in Louisiana, Hawaii & TX, was a social worker in Florida and a probation officer in Bellevue, WA.

Peggy was the wife of Theodore Richard Hart Jr. for 62 years, the mother of Carol Margaret and Christopher Ned, mother-in-law of Susan and Keith, grandmother of Justin, Nicole, Sara, Ryan and Jonathan; step-grandmother of Ryan and Chad, Great grandmother of Dylan, Emily, Avery, Jackson, Noah, Theo, Mackinley, Desmond, Coralee Rose, Frankie and Naomi.

Peggy requested that there be no service or memorials, just private launchings at Cultus Bay, Whidbey Island, Turtle Bay, Hawaii, Matagorda Bay, Texas, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida.

If there is a next life, Peggy will definitely be on probation until her next assignment; if not, this life was way better than anyone should ever expect.”

Leon Hebert Jr.
Life’s Reflections

Leon Hebert Jr., affectionately known as Junebug, was born to Leon Hebert Sr. and Elverine Hebert on October 18, 1953.

Leon spent his childhood years in Blessing, TX, raised by his loving mother and two amazing father figures, Leon Hebert, Sr. and Mr. Amos Deadrick, whom he loved dearly. Leon confessed his love and devotion to Christ at an early age and was a member of Free Zion Baptist Church in Blessing, TX.

Leon was a graduate of Tidehaven High School in the early 70’s. He then enlisted in the United States Military (NAVY) and was later honorably discharged due to an injury. Leon did not let that slow him down and became a CDL truck driver to provide for his family.  Leon never met a stranger. His smile, laugh, and personality was infectious. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing pool, softball and cooking. The one thing Leon loved the most, his pride and joy, was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and family. There was nothing he enjoyed more.

Leon Hebert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Batiste and Dora Cormier Hebert, Emmit and Lola Franklin Rivers; his parents, Leon Sr. and Eleverine Rivers – Hebert, Amos Deadrick; five siblings, Curtis Lee, Ronald Keith, Emmit, and Brenda; two sons, Christopher Mitchell, and Cameron Mitchell (Laura).

Leon Hebert Jr. transitioned from earth to a new life on September 22, 2022. He now leaves all of us to remember him. He leaves his five children: Audra (Nikki) Hebert of Belleglade, FL., Leon Hebert III of Bay City, TX., Leonnisha Hebert of Stafford, TX., Shakeia Hebert of Missouri City, TX. Kurtisha Hebert of Houston, TX. Five surviving siblings: Joycelyn J. Peterson (Vince Peterson) of Brazoria, TX., Yolanda Green-Jones of Houston, TX., Teri K. Hebert of Lake Jackson, TX., Tracy R. Jefferson (Regginald Jefferson) of Bay City, TX., Kathy Y. Blaine (Oliver Blaine) of Katy, TX.; one sister in-law, Sheila Hebert of Angleton, TX.; sixteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

June Bug, as people called him, was a very special person that will be greatly missed. He touched every life he encountered in one way or another. He was truly the definition of a soldier for Christ and his heart showed it. He lived by the Garden of Gethsemane, accepting the will of God for his life. June Bug selflessly sacrificed himself for others.

There was never a dull moment when he was around. His presence would uplift everyone’s spirit with a laugh, a dance, a smile, or just his kind words. He will be so dearly missed. “The race is not given to the swift or to the strong but to the one who endures to the end” (Ecclesiastes 9:11); so we will end with his famous words “You got to want it”!

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Dixon Funeral Home, 2025 East Mulberry, Angleton, TX at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ben Hadden officiating.  Visitation will be same day as service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.  Masks to be worn at your discretion.

Barbara Louise Hubbard

September 17, 1940 - October 21, 2022

Barbara was born September 17th, 1940 and raised in El Campo by her loving parents Ruby and Frank Blinka. She attended school in El Campo where she graduated a very proud Ricebird in the Class of 1961.

Barbara met her husband Gordon, and it was instant love. They married in June of 1963 and shared a beautiful 60 years of marriage. During that time, she raised three amazing sons, whom she adored. Rusty, Keith, and Bubba were her everything. Over the years she managed to take in and raise more children than you can count on all your fingers and toes. If she knew you, she loved you. Barbara never met a stranger. She was the greatest cook in the world and the very best wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother anyone could ask for. She was the most compassionate woman when it came to caring for others and liked to pride herself on being known as Mom, Aunt Barbara, or Nanny to the majority of the county. If she wasn’t serving as a taxi cab for the grandkids or cooking a good meal, she was swinging in her swing and talking on the phone. Well spent time with her husband included long truck rides around the county and trips to the casino; those two were inseparable. She is well known for her great stories and had a laugh that could light you up from the inside. Barbara was an amazing woman with a heart of gold and the love she leaves behind will be felt eternally.

James Thomas Hudson, 49, passed away November 1, 2023.  He was born March 5, 1974, at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida to Edward Hudson and Karen Sprowl Hudson.

James Thomas was the most hardworking man you could ever meet. He always had a way of fixing any and everything no matter the situation. Besides being a hard worker, he loved being a PopPop, a dad, and a husband. He’s well known in this little town of Bay City. He was able to talk to anyone. James has worked all over the U.S. his entire life. He grew up traveling mainly due to his father, Edward Hudson, being in the military. Talking about his hobbies and life interests would take an entire book. He loved knee high socks, anything neon, collecting vintage skateboards, motorcycles, stickers, etc..... James was always looking for new things to do and try but besides that he also just enjoyed being at home with his family. He lived a great life that was cut extremely short. He believed in God and tried to do right in situations others wouldn’t or didn’t want to. There are no words to express how deeply sorrowful his entire family is feeling by his unexpected death. He is tremendously loved by all.
