Funeral services for Lottie Mack, 78, of Brazoria, Texas, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2014, at St. Mark Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, Texas. Burial will follow at St. Mark Cemetery. PALACIOS - Rebecca 'Becky' A. Margos, 73, of Palacios, passed away on Tuesday July 29, 2014. She was born January 1, 1941, in Bridgeport to the late Thurman Grady and Louise Chappelle Rohus. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughters, Tina (husband Roger) Coleman and Karen (husband Wade) Bailey; grandsons, Brian Coleman (wife Jessica), Chris Sappington (wife Leah), and Quinton Bailey; granddaughter, Bridgette Melton (husband Phillip); and great-grandchildren, Abby Sappington, Georgia Coleman, and Hope and Archer Melton.
She is preceded in death by her parents; infant
daughter; three sisters; and two brothers. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Hospice of South Texas or Carancahua Chapel. Services are under the directions of Slavik Funeral Home, 209 N. Allen St. Edna, 361-782-2152.

After graduating from Bay City High School in 1945, Charles served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant in Korea from 1945-1947. He worked as a printer at the Daily Tribune for 13 years and as a postal clerk with the United States Postal Service, retiring after 28 years of service. Known as “The People’s Mayor,” he diligently served the Bay City community for 12 years where he worked with many local leaders and caring citizens to create a better quality of life for the city. Since 2006 he has been employed as a real estate broker with Thompson Land Company. Charles has left a lasting imprint on the Bay City community. His volunteer work is well chronicled with Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and various organizations including Bay City Chamber of Commerce, Bay City Community Development Corporation, Matagorda County Economic Development Committee, Economic Action Committee, Unite Way, Historical Committee, Red Cross, Little League, and the Girls Softball Association. He held memberships with the Knights of Columbus #3070, Life Member of VFW Post #2438, American G. I. Forum, Bay City Booster Club, Bay City Community Education, Lions Club, Texas Region K. Water Planning, Cen-Tex Committee, and Commissioner of Matagorda County Sheriff Reserves. Charles received numerous awards and appointments for his extensive contributions to the community including Headquarters Bicentennial Branch Award, United States Postal Service Award, Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, and Bay City Independent School District Distinguished Alumni Recognition; he had also served as President of Matagorda County Board of Realtors and Commander of American Legion Post II. While assuming many prestigious roles in his lifetime, he always maintained key priorities in his life – faith, family, education, and friends. He leaves behind his wife, Mary Louise Martinez; daughters Julia Anita Ebanks & husband Ernie D. Ebanks of The Cayman Islands and Cecilia Martinez of Austin; sons Charles Martinez III & wife Theresa of Bay City and Mario Martinez & wife Louanne of Austin; grandchildren Charles Fabian Martinez, Stephanie Nicole Martinez, Mallory Louise Warnock & husband Staff Sgt. Sean Warnock, Annemarie Ebanks, Avery Martinez and McKenna Martinez and great grandchildren Clarice Renee Warnock and Addison Marie Warnock. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Sunday at Taylor Bros. Chief Barney Mason, Sr., left this world he so proudly served on May 30, 2014. His life began in a one room tent with a pot belly stove for cooking and heating in Boling, TX, on March 31, 1930. He was raised and attended school in Boling, and eventually served his country in the Korean Conflict from July 11, 1951 to April 11, 1953, when he was honorably discharged. He then began his career with the Bay City Police Department, with a staff of only one police car, two officers and the chief. Shortly after, he met and married the love of his life, Patsy Hubbard Mason, whom he spent the rest of his life with. He then joined a men’s softball league, where he played as a star pitcher for the Butterkrust Old Pros, followed by the Lone Star Magic Caps, for many years. After a few years as an officer, he was promoted to chief and unselfishly served the city in this position, until his retirement in 1988. He considered law enforcement his “calling” and enjoyed every minute of it. Afterwards, he spent most of his time at Bay City Country Club playing golf and dominoes with his same group of friends, until days before his passing. He also enjoyed fishing in Matagorda and walking the track every morning. Grandchildren were always a priority, and he loved taking them for rides in the golf buggy at the country club. He had numerous awards and accomplishments throughout his life, but most recently, was honored by the American Legion and Bay City Cavalry for 60 years of service to his country and community. Even though he was a man of few words, everyone knew him as a warm hearted soul, full of positivity and kindness. In his final stages of life, he was thankful to all of the doctors, nurses and aides who provided such great care to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess. Sr., and Mildred Mason; and brothers Jesse, Jr., and Roy Mason. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patsy Hubbard Mason of Bay City; son, Barney Mason, Jr. and his wife Sandra of Bay City; daughter, Patti Kapalski and her husband Charles of West Columbia; grandchildren, Ashley Horak and husband Steven, Scott Mason and Shelley Mason; great-granddaughter, Paige Horak; and soon to be great- granddaughter, Mollie Kate Horak; along with numerous other family and friends. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2014, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Friends signed the guest book from 11 a.m., until service time Monday. Pallbearers were James Pawlosky, Steven Horak, Scott Mason, Jimmy Folmar, Mason Ledwig and John Krenek. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Daugherty, Jimmy Williams, James Mullins, Babe Markowsky, Buzz Murphy, Buck Head, Dee Brainerd, Wilbur Chambers and all members of the Bay City Country Club. Robert A. “Bobby” Matthews, 69, of Van Vleck, TX passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Matagorda Regional Medical Center. He was born to Sylvain A. “Jack” Matthews and Madelyn Lipscomb Matthews in Bay City, TX on September 28, 1944. Robert graduated from Van Vleck High School in 1962 and later from Sam Houston State University with a Master’s Degree. He spent over 30 years as a teacher and administrator in Bay City ISD. He was the Vocational Director for many years and he influenced thousands of young lives. Robert was a member of the Matagorda County Cattlemen’s Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, and a board member of MEHOP. He was a lifetime member and Past President of Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Association. He was an accomplished horseman, who rode a horse every day of his life if possible. Robert was an active member of First Baptist Church and he participated in several mission trips to Honduras. Those who knew Robert will always remember his kind heart, generous nature, and compassionate smile. He was a friend to everyone he met, and will be greatly missed. Robert is survived by Sharon Richardson and her daughters, Rebecca and Rachel; daughter, Samantha Hudgins (Kyle); and grandchildren, Sydney and Dawson. Also surviving is brother, Jack Matthews (Ollie); sister, Bonnie Barr (Lloyd); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ralph Martell Mayhew, reunited with his wife Nettie and daughter, Jo Ann, on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. Martell was born on May 6, 1922, in Etta, Mississippi to the late Joseph A. and Jessie Moody Mayhew. Martell proudly served during WWII, in the Army Corp of Engineers, serving in the Pacific theatre, building airstrips for Allied forces. He was an old-school cowboy, giving advice to young cowboys. As Martell’s children were growing up, their friends loved to be around him and Nettie at different functions at their house. He was affectionately known by his great-grandchildren as “Cowboy Paw Paw”. Martell is survived by his loving family, children, Lauren Smith (George) of College Station and Richie Mayhew (Nancy) of Bay City; niece, Linda Kucera; grandchildren, Brett Bevers and Amy Curbello (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Briahna Yuodsnukis, Bailey Schelp, Nicole Schelp and Ava Curbello; brother, Dallas Moody of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Nettie; and daughter, Jo Ann. The family received visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Katherine Ray “Kay Rea” Milliff, 80, of Wadsworth, Texas, passed away May 27, 2014. She was born February 13, 1934, in New Gulf, Texas, to the late George Peter Ottis and Meda Mangum Ottis. She was a 1952 graduate of Bay City High School. Kay Rea was married to the love of her life, Jerry Milliff. for 55 years. Kay and Jerry partnered together in several businesses over the years. Her calling in life was serving others. She served her family, raising three children and grand-parenting five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She served her extended family and friends by opening her home in times of need, making them feel loved and welcomed. She served her church through the Sacred Heart Altar Society and served God throughout her life. Kay Rea was preceded in death by her husband, James Gerold “Jerry” Milliff; brother, George Peter Ottis, Jr; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Milliff, Mike Milliff and Jim Gage; and grandson, Doug De Vos. Sylvan Louis Miori, 86, of Wharton, TX, died peacefully in his home on July 29, 2014, with his family by his side. Sylvan Miori is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Brown Miori. He is also survived by two children, Marsha Miori Breeden Petter and her husband Doug of Bay City, Texas and Louis E. Miori and his wife Michelle of Houston, Texas; along with six grandchildren, Clay Breeden and wife Jamie of Bay City, TX, Sean Breeden and wife Lexie of Ann Arbor, Michigan, D.J. Petter of Houston, TX, Jennifer Miori of Austin, TX, Steven Miori and wife Emmalie of Spring, TX, and Michael Miori of Houston, TX. Sylvan Miori also is survived by four great-grandchildren, Raya and Reed Breeden of Bay City, and Gibson and Pearson Miori of Spring. Sylvan Miori has two surviving sisters, Clara Berkman of Victoria, and Lillian Lester of Huntsville; along with many nieces and nephews. Miori was preceded in death by James Louis Miori, father; Victorina Magnia Miori, mother; Irene Miori, stepmother; brothers, James and Reynold Miori; and sister, Genevieve (Lee) Hall; all of Victoria, TX. The son of an Italian immigrant farmer/rancher, Sylvan Miori was born on August 13, 1927, to James Louis Miori and Victorina Magnia Miori in Victoria, TX. He graduated from Victoria High School in 1945. Miori served in the U.S. Navy during and after World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville on a football scholarship, and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Agriculture. Miori moved to Wharton as the Assistant High School Football coach in 1951. That same year he met Betty Brown, who became his Bride on June 18, 1953 at Holy Family Catholic Church. In 1954, Miori was hired by T.S. Clements Company, an auto parts and sporting goods store, which he then purchased from Mr. Clements in 1959, renaming the business “S.L. Miori Company”. Miori was fortunate to have many loyal, dedicated employees over the years, and attributes much of his success to them. Miori sold S.L. Miori Co. after 34 successful years in business in November of 1993. From 1972-1982, he also owned the Miller/Falstaff beer distributorship, which served both Wharton and Matagorda counties. As a Wharton entrepreneur and philanthropist, Miori was a tremendous community leader. He served on many civic boards and committees. Not only was Miori a tremendous leader, but he and Betty were also tremendous givers. Miori was a volunteer auctioneer for over 35 years, helping to raise millions of dollars for local organizations. Miori was recognized by the Wharton Chamber of Commerce in 1998 with an Outstanding Citizen Award for his and Betty’s philanthropic activities in the community. Sylvan Miori was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, and involved with many activities and duties in the parish. Miori’s proudest accomplishment was envisioning and founding a blood donation program geared to teens called TAPS (Teens are People Savers) in 1995. Through TAPS, teens were encouraged to give the “gift of life”. Miori’s vision was for teens to become lifelong blood donors so that recurring blood shortages would become a thing of the past. Many will remember Miori dressed in a vampire costume at the local high school blood drives, saying, “I vant your blood!” The TAPS program collected over 26,000 pints of blood. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in his honor on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 10 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, TX, with The Most Reverend Bishop David E. Fellhauer of the Diocese of Victoria officiating. The Miori Family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Sylvan’s hospice nurse, Joe Hochman, and to Sylvan’s private caretaker, Gloria Gaston, during the last three weeks of his life. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Family Life Center Building Fund of Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, TX 77488, the local office of Houston Hospice.

He was a butcher at QP and then at Three Brothers. Survivors include his brother, Lupe Montoya and wife Aurora of Bay City; sisters, Dorothy Lopez of Houston and Regina Ramirez and husband Joe of Houston; and many nieces, nephews and other family members. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas, June 3. He is survived by three sons: Billie Moore of Kingsville, Harold Moore of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Doyle James Moore of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one sister, Mrs. Erna Grubbs of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two brothers, R. T. Moore of Boswell, Oklahoma and Willis Moore of California. Services will be held at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel June 6 at 10 am with Ellis Johnson, Jehovah Witness Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Park under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Moore worked for the City of Bay City from 1962 to 1968 in the Bridge and Street Department. His wife, Mrs. Mattie Moore passed away in Bay City in 1968.

He was born on September 29, 1933 in Cuero, TX to the late Paz and Juanita Rodriguez Morales. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of Bay City. Survivors include his wife, Rosie Cadriel Morales of Bay City; two daughters, Bebe Morales and Hope Barela, both of Bay City; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Caesar R. Morales Jr. and wife Rhonda Quinn Morales of Bay City, and Joe Morales of Bay City; four sisters, Inosencia Hernandez, Inez Garcia, Cruz Bustos and Janie Amador, all of Bay City; three brothers, Pete Moralez of Victoria, Paz Morales of Palacios and Frank Morales of Bay City and a granddaughter, Ashley Barela of Bay City. Rosary will be said 7 p.m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City, TX. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, January 23, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, TX. Pallbearers will be Rolondo Rodriguez, Frankie Morales, Nat Bustos, Ray Garcia Jr., Buddy Morales, Rudolfo Martinez and Reymundo Garcia. Honorary pallbearers are Guadalupe Ham, Ignacio Cantu, A.B. Trevino and Nick Perez. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

Raymond Paul Munoz, 55, of Wharton, TX died Monday, July 21, 2014 at a Bay City Hospital following a sudden illness. He was born on April 18, 1959 in East Bernard, TX, a son of Pascual B. Munoz, Sr, and Irene Fiqirova. Mr. Munoz was a life-long resident of Wharton. Raymond worked for years for Pantone-Industrial. He attended school in Hungerford, TX. Raymond enjoyed drinking, eating, traveling, shopping, long drives, being with family and spoiling his grandkids. His brothers, Pascual B. Munoz Jr. and George Munoz, preceded him in death. A visitation was held on Thursday evening at Wharton Funeral Home at 4 p.m., with rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Friday July 25, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Daniel Danso officiating. Burial followed the funeral service at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton, TX Pallbearers were Alex DeLaRosa, Reyes DeLaRosa, Edward Garcia, Jr, Mike J. Munoz, Timothy Delgado and Donald Delgado. Survivors include his daughters, Stacie Munoz of Bay City, Kimberly Munoz of El Campo and Natalie Erevia of Bay City; sons, Raymond Munoz Jr. of Austin and Philip Erevia and wife Casey of Bay City; sisters, Susie Perez and husband Paul of El Campo, Dolores DeLaRosa and husband Richard of Bay City and Cindy Vidales and husband Michael of Bay City; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Beatrice Murphree, 74, formerly of Bay City, TX, passed away June 25, 2014. She was born November 29, 1939 in El Campo, TX, to the late Earl Mitchell and Bessie Scheller Mitchell. She graduated from Bay City High School. For a number of years she worked for Dr. Tillman Daniel and Bay City Bank and Trust. She most recently had devoted her skills to child care. Survivors include her husband, Charles Murphree of Cedar Park, TX; daughter, Janet Evans and husband John of Allen, TX; son, Mike Murphree and wife Christy of Cedar Park, TX; sisters, Lorene Hildebrand of El Campo and Bernice Spradling of Rosenberg; and grandchildren, Holly Murphree and Collin Murphree. The family received friends and relatives from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014, at the funeral home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with Bro. Larry Macomber officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park.
