John Edward Sabrsula
(September 18, 1967 - June 3, 2006)

John Edward Sabrsula, 38, of Bay City passed away June 3, 2006. He was born September 18, 1967 in Wharton, Texas to Lee Roy and Henrietta Phillips Sabrsula. He was a dispatcher for Alamo Concrete and had managed the Rebels Men’s Softball Team since 1991. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and organizing benefit BBQ’s.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Frost Sabrsula of Bay City; mother Henrietta Sabrsula of Perry, OK; son Bradley John Sabrsula of Bay City; sister Linda Sabrsula of Perry, OK; brothers Lee Roy Sabrsula, Jr. of Edmond, OK and Henry Sabrsula of Perry, OK; mother-in-law and father-in-law Joe and Linda Frost of Bay City, and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Wrape officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leif Anderson, Joey Frost, Victor Sanford, John Weiss, Jay Crochet, Jim Morrow, Armondo Garcia and Chris Sykes. Darrell R. Saha
(December 19, 1965 - July 27, 2008)

 

Darrell R. Saha, 42, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008, in Houston, TX. He was born December 19, 1965 in Bay City to Ann Keller Saha and Louis Saha. He was a former resident of El Maton and has resided in Houston since 1991. He was an Engineer in Industrial Water Jetting, was a member of the A & M Century Club and a member of the Water Jetting Technological Association.
 

He is survived by his wife: Denise Kaderka Saha of Houston; his parents: Louis & Ann Saha of El Maton; a brother: Jeffrey D. Saha of Houston; a maternal grandmother: Barbara McKissick Keller Sullivan of Bay City; his mother and father-in-law: Richard E. and Elizabeth J. Kaderka of Rosenberg; by numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins; and his loyal companions: Thor and Zeus. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfathers: Jay Kent Keller formerly of Markham and Wesley A. Sullivan formerly of Bay City; and by his paternal grandparents: Louise Hickl Saha and Louis P. Saha, formerly of El Maton.
 

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM Tuesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing, Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Anton Salac, 72, Passes Away Here

Anton Salac, 72, of Markham passed away on Tuesday at the Matagorda General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p. m. in the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Claude Cagle of the First Methodist Church of Markham officiating. Interment will be in Hawley Cemetery.

He was born on February 1, 1892 in Cameron and had lived in Matagorda County for 34 years. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors are five brothers.

Edward Salac

Edward Salac, 75, a resident of Markham passed away March 3 at the Bay Villa Nursing Home. Survivors include: 4 brothers, Emile Salac of Markham, Rudolph Salac of Markham, Frank Joe Salac of Cameron, and Vice Salac of Ganado. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. March 4 at Taylor Brothers Chapel with Rev. Joe Ramsey officiating. Interment was at the Hawley Cemetery in Blessing. Arrangements with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Rudolph Salac

Funeral services for Rudolph Salac of Ganado will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Ramsey of the First Baptist Church in Markham officiating.

Burial will be in the Hawley Cemetery.

Mr. Salac, 84, died Sept. 3, 1984, in Ganado. He was born December 31, 1899, in Cameron, Texas.

Survivors include a brother, Emil Salac of El Campo; several nephews and one niece.

Pallbearers will be Gene Salas, Leonard Salas, Ben Salas, Frankie Sbush?, Adolph E. Biskup and Adolph L. Biskup.

Jan. 20, 1918 - June 21, 2010

Eugene Vaclav Salas, 92 of El Campo, passed away on June 21, 2010.

He was born on January 20, 1918 in Praha, Texas to the late Vince and Mary Hajek Salas.

He is survived by: his wife, Martha Mondrik Salas of El Campo; daughters, Leona Pawlak of Sealy, Diane Sbrusch and husband Frank of Rockport; sons, Leonard Salas and wife Betty (Korenek) of Ganado, Eugene Salas, Jr and wife Retta (Medford) of Markham, and Johnny Salas of Markham; 16 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Annie Zetka, Julie Kasper, Adela Fabrygel, and Olga Maresh; brothers, Willie Zapalac, John Zapalac, Henry Salas, Anton Salas, and Ben Salas.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 2 until 6 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home.

A Rosary will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in El Campo with the funeral services following at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Janak officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Blessing.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons Steven Sbrusch, Brian Pawlak, Chris Pawlak, Daryl Pawlak, Bradley Salas, Jason Salas, DeWayne Salas, Derreck Salas, Matthew Salas, and Lance Salas.

Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters Cyndi Newton, Angela Pawlak, Rachel Cieslewicz, Trisha Buantello, Teri Salas, and Jennifer Ford.

Virginia Salazar
July 17, 1954 – Feb. 2, 2011

Virginia Salazar, 56, of Markham, Texas, was born on July 17, 1954, and passed away on February 2, 2011, in Bay City, Texas, where she resided most of her life.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, Maria and Mateo Salazar; two brothers, Mateo Salazar Jr., and Joe Salazar.

Virginia is survived by: two daughters, Georgia Hernandez and husband, Sabrina Cervantes; three grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Triplet, Roy Triplet III, Abagail Kristine Triplet; and several sisters and two brothers.

Private services and Interment were held at 2 p.m. February 10, 2011 at Roselawn Memorial Park.

LARRY D. SALLEE

SUGAR VALLEY - Larry D. Sallee, age 59, of Sugar Valley, and formerly of El Campo, died Saturday, May 30, 2009. He was born May 12, 1950 in Lake Jackson to the late J.B. and Elsie Sallee.

He was a member of First Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1972 and was a Viet Nam veteran.

Survivors include a nephew, Michael G. Sallee Jr. of San Antonio; a niece, Gina K. Sallee of Portland, Ore.; and a great niece, Ryan Elizabeth Sallee of San Antonio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Michael G. Sallee Sr.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Wright “Sonny” Salter
Dec. 6, 1941- Jan. 16, 2010

Former Bay City resident, Wright “Sonny” Salter of Houston, passed from this life Jan. 16 after a long illness. He was 68.

He was born in Victoria (Texas) the day before Pearl Harbor and lived his life with gusto and curiosity, sprinkled with great humor, warmth and thoughtfulness.

As a young man he played football, baseball and swam competitively and later excelled in golf. Sports were his soft vices and his love of his wife Glenda was his passion.

After graduating from Bay City High School in 1960 he attended The University of Texas-Austin and Texas State University-San Marcos where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. He taught in the Bay City and Houston public schools, sharing his knowledge and zeal for world history and sports with his students.

He was an executive with Connecticut General Insurance Company in Houston before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wright Sr. and Eugenia Salter of Bay City.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons and their families, Scott Salter of Houston and Brad and Devin Salter of St. Petersburg, Fla.; step-daughter Stacy and Kenneth Thornton of Houston; grandchildren Grant and Ty Salter, Lacy and Grace Salter, Zachary and Cale Thornton; sisters and brother-in-law Martha and David Cordell of Plano; Maggie Carrington of Metairie, La. and Julia Hollister of San Francisco; cousins Bill and Leah Lacy of Houston and Bob and Connie Lacy of Metairie; nephews Cornell Barnard of San Rafael, Calif., Christopher and Mark Cordell of Plano, Diana Barnard of San Francisco, Tge Carrington of Baton Rouge and Austi Carrington of Danville, Calif.; godmother Christine Spiller of Bay City; friends Herb Phalen, Joe Gutherie and Raymond Vincent and canine companions Asia and Zoey.

A celebration of his life is scheduled for Jan. 30.

Abel Sanchez, 49, of Bay City passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010. He was born August 3, 1961 in Bay City. He was a life long resident of Bay City, and worked as an Electrician.

He is survived by his father: Freddie De La Garza of Richmond; significant other: Beatrice Mijares of Freeport; 2 daughters: Stephanie Sanchez Torres & husband Paul, and Amanda Sanchez Garcia & husband Braulio all of Bay City; step daughter: Violet Sandoval of Freeport; son: Tony Sanchez & wife Michelle of Freeport; 2 sisters: Norma Jones, and Elida Yanez & husband Joe John all of Bay City; brother: Jesse Sanchez of Bay City; and 16 grandchildren. Abel was preceded in death by his grandmother: Herlinda Flores; mother: Yolanda Sanchez Garcia; daughter: Ivory Ann Sanchez; and sister: Leticia Ann Sanchez.

Felipa G. Sanchez, 89, of Palacios passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at her home. She was born December 13, 1919 in Mexico. Felipa was a long time resident of Palacios, and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

She is survived by her brother Tony Gonzalez of Palacios; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. Felipa was preceded in death by 5 sons: Louis, Phillip, Henry, Leo and August Sanchez.

A rosary will be recited 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Palacios Funeral Home. A mass will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 2, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Charles Dowomoh officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery.

Mario Garcia Sanchez, Sr., 56 of Palacios, TX passed away Saturday, September 1, 2007 in Bay City, TX. He was born June 11, 1951 in Palacios, TX to the late Frank Garcia Sanchez and Mary Garcia Sanchez. He was a life long resident of Palacios, attended Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Palacios and was employed as a painter at Brock Specialty Services.

He is survived by his wife: Beatrice P. Sanchez; his daughters: Naomi Sanchez & husband Matthew Ortiz, Trina Sanchez, Frances Sanchez, and Beatrice Sanchez; by his sons: Mario Sanchez, Jr. and wife Cynthia, and David Sanchez, all of Palacios; his sisters: Omega Espinosa of Houston, Josephine Carrizales and Emma Jones, both of Victoria; his brothers: Christopher D. Blessing—Charlotte Sandefur, 81, of Blessing, died Saturday, May 1, 1999.

She was born Dec. 7, 1917, in Texas, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Huble. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church and WMU.

Survivors: husband, James Sandefur; daughter, Kay Johnson of Alvin; and sons, R. A. Boyce and Larry Boyce, both of Lubbock.

James Otis Sandefur, 94, of Bay City passed away March 15, 2010. He was born February 4, 1916 in Davidson, Oklahoma. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blessing and worked as a Barber for many years.

His wife, Mabel Sanders and brothers Virgil & Dayton Sanders all preceded him in death. Edward P. Sanders

 

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 6, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Hawley Cemetery for Edward Perry Sanders, 83, of Bay City, Texas, who died Friday, February 27, 2004 at The Legacy.

 

He was born November 27, 1920 in Athens, Texas to Charles M. and Ella Sanders. He had been a resident of Bay City since 1972. He and his wife owned and operated Sanders TV Sales and Service for 24 years.

 

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Francine Boles Sanders; daughter, Karen McBride and husband, Jim, of Green Valley, Arizona; son, Karl Sanders and wife, Elizabeth, of Wimberley, Texas; brother, Charles Sanders and wife, Shirley, of Athens, Texas; stepsister, Thelma Trammell, of Athens, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

 

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, PILOT International Foundation, Macon, Georgia, or Matagorda County Birding Nature Center, Bay City, Texas.

Francine Ladell Sanders
November 4, 1921 - October 16, 2019

Mrs. Sanders was born in Brownsboro, Texas, on November 4, 1921.  She was almost 98 years old when she died on October 16, 2019 in Georgetown, Texas.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen McBride of Georgetown; her son, Karl Sanders and wife Elizabeth Sanders of Wimberley, Texas; her older sister, Louise McClure of Waco, who is almost 101 years old; her younger sister, Mary Blitch of Austin; and many nieces and nephews. 

Francine lived a full and rich life in Bay City for more than 45 years, where she was President of the Nature Club several times, always on its board; on the Birding Nature Center board throughout most of its existence; President of the Pilot Club with many other offices therein; and an active member of the First Baptist Church and choir for many years.  At age 96, she was the oldest and longest participating member of the Matagorda Mad Island Marsh Christmas Bird Count (25 years).  She went birding in Trinidad and Tobago for her 80th birthday; Italy for her 85th birthday; Costa Rica for her 90th birthday; and Alaska for her 95th!  She had 600 bird species on her North American life list.  The inscription on her gravestone reads, “I’d Rather Be Birding!” and she chose the Hawley Cemetery because of all the bird songs she heard there.

There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bay City.  No gifts please, but yellow or coral roses would be welcomed.

Jesse Walton Sanders, Jr.
Oct. 10, 1927 - Aug. 20, 2009

Jesse Walton Sanders, Jr., of Pearland, Texas, passed away on August 20, 2009 at his home.

He was born October 10, 1927 to his parents, Jesse and Lela Sanders in Houston, Texas. Jesse proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII, and was called to serve in the Korean War. He was a resident in Pearland for the past 17 years formerly of Bay City. Jesse worked for the United States Postal Service and was a Special Olympics coach for over 30 years. He was also a member of Faith Community Church in Pearland.

Jesse is preceded in death by his wife, Ida Bell Sanders, and his parents.

He is survived by: his sons, Robert Sanders; Duane Davis his wife Sheila and children, David, Chris and Nathan; sister, Bernice Ramsey and husband Reverend Joe; brother, Henry Sanders and wife Bobbie, and niece, Susan Suadi.

A visitation for family and friends was from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, Texas.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2009 at Crowder Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.

MABEL ELVIRA SANDERS

 

Funeral services for Mabel Elvira Sanders, 77, of Palacios will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 at Trinity Baptist Church in Palacios, with the Rev. Louis Rush officiating. Interment will be at the Hawley Cemetery, Blessing.

 

A native of DeWitt County, she was born Nov. 19, 1927 to the late Monroe and Elvira Hoot Schmidt. She died Nov. 25, 2004.

 

A resident of Palacios since 1958, she was a member of the Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by her husband, Aubrey Denson Sanders of Palacios; daughter, Gail Dannels and husband, Bill, of Midland; son David Sanders and wife, Debbie, of Palacios; four sisters, Shirley Reiman and Evelyn Schmidt of Runge, and Joyce Holtz of Thomaston; two brothers, Bob Schmidt of Kenedy and Franklin Schmidt of Runge; four grandchildren, Brandon and Ashley Sanders of Palacios, Jeffery Dannels and wife, Jennifer, of Little Elm, and Jennifer Dannels of Baltimore, Md.; and one great-granddaughter, Morgan Dannels of Little Elm.

 

She was preceded in death by a brother, Monroe Schmidt.

 

Pallbearers are Jeff Dannels, Bill Dannels, Charles Mize, Bennie Mize, John Toellner and John Ressler.

Interment was at Palacios Cemetery with military honors provided by Queen-Hamlin VFW Post 2467.

Mr. Sanders was born July 4, 1918 in Palacios to the late C. D. and Beatrice Barbara Ellis Sanders. He passed away March 30, 2009.

He was a member of the Palalcios First Baptist Church and served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He has often been referred to as an upright, honest, compassionate Christian man.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Billie Ruth and Henry Jackson of Milano, TX, and Mary Helen and Johnny Johnson of El Campo, Tx.; son Richard E. Sanders, Jr. of Palacios; grandchildren Stacy Murrell and husband Michael, Sara Hymer and husband Tim, and David Jackson and wife Janna; great-grandchildren Heather and Ricky Murrell, Katherine Jackson, Marlie Hymer and Opie Jackson; and great-great-grandson Jonathan Murrell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Sanders; sisters Helen S. Murphy and Clara Mae Kuehm; and grandson Michael Jackson.

Pallbearers were David Jackson, Mike Murrell, Tim Hymer, Johnny Brady, Carrell Ramsey, Rob Kessler, Leo Neuszer and Donnie Harvey. The Deacons of the First Baptist Church and Members of the Truth Seekers Men’s Sunday School Class will served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Palacios or Friends of Elder Citizens, P. O. Box 791, Palacios, TX 77465.

Ruth Leigh Sanders
(July 16, 1916 - December 6, 2006)

Ruth L. Sanders, 90, of Bay City, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2006. She was born July 16, 1916 in Cove, Arkansas to E J and Elizabeth Cook. She was a long time resident of Bay City and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her Daughter-in-law: Frankie Sanders of Longmont, CO; her Grandchildren: Shannon Sanders & wife Brenda of Friendswood and Derik Sanders & wife Angie of Firestone, CO; and by her Great Grandchildren: Tyson, Toni Sue, Cody, Bethany and Zachary. She was preceded in death by her husband: Otto M. Sanders, her daughter: Flora Sanders and her son: Larry Sanders.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warren Mutz officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Jessicka R Sandifer
(December 1, 1981 - June 11, 2006)

Jessicka R. Sandifer, 24, of Palacios, Texas passed away Sunday, June 11, 2006 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was a loving and devoted mother and a resident of Palacios since 2005 and she was an active advocate against domestic violence.

She was survived by her, mother, Lisa Sandifer of Palacios; her son: Leigh Xavier Rosa of Palacios; Maternal Grandparents; George and Deloris Noland of Houston; Maternal aunts; Donna Kilough & husband Kenneth of Dayton; Carolyn White & husband Earl of Blessing, and Connie Epperson & Pamela Neader, both of Houston; her uncle: Leigh Sagstetter & Cindy Gray of Pattonville Village; and by numerous cousins. She is also survived by her best friend and sister: Candace Buhrow of Houston; best friends: Tasha Sanchez of Palacios; Britt Barnes of Baytown; and Crystal Rector of Palacios.

She will be greatly missed by all that knew her, but, she has now received her heavenly rest.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Missions Training Center, 6711 Long Point, Houston, TX. Memorial services will also be held on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios, TX.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the fund for Jessica Sandifer, c/o the City State Bank of Palacios, TX.
