Jane Kirby Savage, Mama Jane, died peacefully, surrounded by her family and God’s peaceful love, June 13, 2014. She was born on March 18, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, to Paul and Margaret Kirby, where she grew up with her brother. Jane moved to Texas and graduated from Bay City High School in 1948. There she met the love of her life and was married to Harley Stewart Savage, October 12, 1951. They began their life together in San Antonio. After Harley completed college and his time in the service, they returned to Bay City in 1954. where they raised their five children. As her family grew to 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren to date, she earned her name “Mama Jane.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Margaret Kirby; and brother, Roger. Our Mama Jane, will be lovingly remembered by her family and many friends during her memorial service at St Mark’s Episcopal Church in Bay City, Texas, June 17, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) or St. Mark’s Outreach. Paul A. Scheel departed this life on April 7, 2014, at his home. Paul was born to Margaret and Paul Scheel on February 20, 1932 in Ganado, Texas. Paul was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Chairman of Supervisory Committee of Bay Cel Federal Credit Union. Paul retired from Celanese Chemical Company. After retirement, he volunteered for many organizations, including MeHop, Habitat for Humanity, and the church. He and his wife enjoyed many trips, traveling in their RV. Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; infant daughter, Lisa; his parents; and his sisters, Angelina and Lorraine. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Billie Marie; a son, James (Carla) of Bay City; step-sons, Rick Darby (Anna) of Rockport, Brent Darby of Bay City and Jeff Darby (Gina) of Blessing; grandchildren Max Darby of Rockport, Betty Marie Darby of California, Heath Darby of Blessing, Claire Wleczyk (Billy) of Katy, Angie Hartl (Russell) of Victoria, Ryan Pevay (Lacy) of Oklahoma, Allison Schneider (Chris), and Becca Pevay of Bay City; and numerous great-grandchildren. Paul is also survived by his brothers, Ray (Rosalie) of Humble, George (Robbie) of Bay City and John (Gloria) of Fulshear; and sisters, Mary Leigh Scheel of Jourdanton and Shelly Scheel of Spicewood, Texas. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City, Texas. Susan Rachael Emmons-Seaman, 36, of Palacios passed away March 15, 2014. She was born January 8, 1978 in El Campo, TX to John Kevin Emmons and Deborah Jonell Southall Emmons. She is survived by her former husband James N. Seaman of Palacios; children Noah James Seaman, Maren Hope Seaman and Meridyth Jo Seaman all of Palacios; grandparents Oliver Southall, George Harris and Shirley Clark; sister Elissa Lenore Emmons of Victoria and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends and relatives from 1PM until 3pm Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Palacios Funeral Home. Ervin Eddie Selcer, 83, of Wharton, Texas, died Sunday morning, April 27, 2014, at a Wharton nursing facility, following a lengthy illness. He was born on September 20, 1930 in Wharton, Texas, to the late Fritz William (Dick) and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Chudalla Selcer. Ervin was raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School and Wharton County Junior College. He later attended and graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, with a degree in Agronomy. Ervin served his country proudly during the Korean War in the United States Army as a Radar Specialist. He married the love of his life, Judith Renee Uhr, in 1956, in San Antonio, Texas. He worked for Celanese Chemical Company for many years in Bishop and Bay City, Texas. He also worked on various projects on the East Coast, the Mid East, Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Ervin retired from Occidental Chemical Company in Lake Charles, LA and returned to live in Wharton, Texas. He was active in the Wharton area, serving as Lions Club president and on the board of the Wharton County Historical Society, along with his church activities at First United Methodist Church in Wharton. In addition to his parents; Ervin was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Selcer; and son, Tod Christopher Selcer. Following cremation, memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Wharton, with the Rev. Meredith Wende officiating. Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Judy Selcer of Wharton; sons, Toby Selcer and wife Amanda of Texas City, Tom Selcer and wife Traci of New Braunfels, and daughter Tina Jones and husband Bill of Bedford; grandchildren, Kate Selcer Gomez and husband Chris, Amy Selcer, Jacob Selcer, Mykala Selcer, and Christopher Jones; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ava, Christopher and Silas Gomez. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 22246 West Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030. Mark J. Senkyrik, 62, went to His final reward on May 15, 2014, at his residence in Cedar Lane. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he touched in some way throughout his life. He was born in Bay City on August 05, 1951. He is preceded in death by his father Jerome Harry Senkyrik known to many as “Buck” and mother Anita Marie Senkyrik. Mark served with the Army Reserves. After his service he was employed by BP Chocolate Bayou, where he worked 23 years, retiring in 2004. He was an Ordained Minister serving Brazoria and Matagorda Counties as President of Eagle Heart Ministries of Bay City since 2005. He was Co-Pastor of Healing House Outreach Church in Brazoria Texas, while presenting a godly example of integrity and strong work ethic to all who knew him. Up until his final moments he was praying blessings over many lives and feeding love and words of wisdom into anyone who visited him. He loved working cattle on his small ranch in Cedar Lane, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time with family and friends, fishing, water skiing and golfing. He had a zest for life and continued to make people smile with his practical jokes and humor up until the Lord took him home. Mark is survived by his wife Dianna Martin Senkyrik of Cedar Lane; his son Chad Senkyrik of Cedar Lane and daughter Stacey Senkyrik of Angleton, stepdaughter Sonja LeVasseur and husband Lon of League City, stepson Scott Lausch and wife Amber of LaPorte, and stepdaughter Lyora “Lynn” Rion of Lake Jackson; sister-in-law Cheryl Johnson and husband Robert; Grandchildren; Misty, Autumn, Amanda, Riley, Bailey, Edward Jr., Devlin, Nova, Peyton, Alyssa, Brianna and Shelby; Stepgrandchildren; Chelsea, Amber, and Brittany. And many other beloved family members. Mark leaves a legacy of love, faith, honor, wisdom, devotion and compassion. A guiding example of what a husband, father, grandfather and friend should be. He touched so many people during his life time and has put a forever mark on many hearts. We will always carry him close and take with us the life lessons and love he poured into us until the day we are reunited with him in Heaven. David Stepan Siptak passed away April 1, 2014. He was born August 28, 1949, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Edmund Siptak and Lydia Stepan Siptak. He was a pharmacist for 41 years. He enjoyed his family, friends and golf. Funeral services for Limuel Herse Sowell, 81, of Bay City, were held Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, with Bros. Elmo Withers and Peter Walker officiating. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Sowell was born June 2, 1902, in San Augustine, Texas, and died November 28, 1983, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was a retired Texas Highway Department employee and a resident of Bay City since 1941. Mr. Sowell was an ordained Baptist minister for 32 years, and was pastor, at one time, of four East Texas churches. He was also a member of County Line Primitive Baptist Church of Cleveland, Texas.
Survivors include: wife of 62 years, Cora Mae Sowell of Bay City; three daughters, Lois M. Rogers and Susie Winters (son-in-law Carlton) of Bay City, and Nevada E. Mutchler (son-in-law Gene) of Louise; son, Preston H. Sowell (daughter-in-law Flossie) of Mesquite, Texas; sisters, Alnettie Whitton, Myrtie Sowell, and Ella Steptoe of San Augustine; brothers, Claude and Clyde Sowell of San Augustine; eight grandchildren, Cindy Veneziano, Beverly Waldock, Aliesa Wojrasek, Sharon Phillips, Mike Isbell, Kimberly M’Carver, James Sowell, and Brenda Adkins; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Pasqual Martinez, John I. Underwood, Pat Boepple, William Arlitt, Robert Toney, and Dennis M’Carver. Arrangements were made with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Cora Mae Roebuck Sowell, 92, of Bay City, will be at 4:00 PM Wednesday, December 1, 1999, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. William Haskell officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Sowell, a long-time resident of Bay City, passed away on Monday, November 29, 1999, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. She was born July 13, 1907, in Zavalla, Angelina County, Texas, to the late Henry Benjamin Roebuck and Callie Rozette Mills Roebuck. She was married for 62 years to her childhood sweetheart Limuel Herse Sowell, also of Angelina County, and the family moved to Bay City in 1941.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a caring role model to her family, and a life-long Baptist. She was a former employee for many years of Bay City Independent School District’s food service department.
Survivors include: daughters, Susie Adkins of Bay City, and Nevada Mutchler of Inez; son, Preston H. Sowell of Garland; special granddaughter, Brenda Adkins Sims and husband, Larry Sims of Houston; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great, great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by: her husband in 1983; daughter, Lois Rogers in 1999; sisters, Nora Roebuck Toney and Josie Mitchell Shoemaker; and brothers, Edmund Roebuck and Ollie Roebuck.
Pallbearers are Donald E. Adkins, Roy W. Sanders, Freddie Williams, Gail A. (Bud) Schulz, George Morte, and Robert Toney. Honorary pallbearers are all of her many beloved friends.

Lillian Spalek, 88, of Bay City passed away June 19, 2014. She was born July 22, 1925 in Bay City to the late Tom Ready and Ella Hoffman Ready. She was a lifelong resident of Bay City and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank C. Spalek in 1992. Survivors include daughter Patty Spalek; son Larry Spalek & wife Marilyn; grandchildren Stacy Spalek, Cody Spalek, Tina Betcher, Lisa Earhart and Saybert Earhart; numerous great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Born Jan. 28, 1920 in Ganado, he died Monday, July 17, 1992 in Bay City. Survivors include his wife, Lillian Ready Spalek; a daughter, Patty Spalek of Bay City; a son, Larry Spalek of Bay City; a sister, Bertha Rogers of Hugo, Okla.; two brothers, August Spalek and Stanley Spalek, both of Ganado; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was a heavy equipment contractor relating to agriculture construction as well as oil and gas. His work contributed much to the growth and economy of Matagorda County and Bay City. A resident of Bay City for over 40 years, he was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Nonie Stavinoha of Bay City; two daughters, Shirley Garner of Sweeny and Loraine Crawford of Austin; three sons, James Stavinoha of Bay City, Raymond Stavinoha of Houston and Wayne Stavinoha of Sweeny; two sisters, Edna Kubosh and Annie De Shazo, both of Rosenberg; and five grandchildren, Burt, Eric, and Scott Stavinoha and Craig and Patrick Garner. Mrs. Stevens went home to be with Jesus on Dec. 12, 1999 after spending 92 years here on earth. She was greeted by her beloved husband, Benjamin Franklin Stevens, Jr.; her son, Robert Lee Stevens; a sister Elizabeth Hall Morgan; and two brothers, Henry and James Hall. She was born Nov. 28, 1907 in Waco to Milton and Mary Ada Hall. She is survived by; three sons and daughters in law, Bennie and Gerald and Lavern Stevens of Bay City, John Francis and Ruth Stevens of Sargent, and Benjamin Franklin III and Jeanne of Fall Brook, Calif.; four sisters, Frances Mae Way of Mt. Pleasant, Ruth McMahan of Houston, Gladys Salley of Monroe, LA and Goldenberg of Houston; nine grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was a graduate of Bay City High School and of Sam Houston State University. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps, stationed at One Harrison Street, San Francisco, CA. He was a retired engineer from the Texas Department of Transportation, and a retired volunteer Fireman with the Bay City Fire Department. He served for more than two decades on the Drainage District of Precinct 1 in Bay City. Since his retirement from the Highway Dept., he has been an active member of the Bay City Kiwanis, serving as secretary three times. He was also an active member of the Gideons, serving as vice-president. After retiring, we purchased a small ranch, and he loved being out with the cows and loved the country atmosphere. He was a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and the Matagorda Cattleman’s Association. He was also a faithful member of the Shipley’s 2 P.M. coffee Group. A dedicated member of The Church of God of Prophecy in Bay City, Bennie served as Sunday School Teacher, Song Leader, worked summer camp, or did whatever he found that needed to be done. He loved mowing the Church lawn, as that was where he said he was closest to God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Maud Lee Stevens, and one brother, Robert Lee Stevens. He is survived by his wife, Laverne, of 54 years, plus 3 years of dating before marrying in April, 1953. Mrs. Stone was born in Benton, Ark., and died at 1:30 am Feb7, 1985 at her residence. A resident of Bay City since 1930, she was a member of Faith Assembly of God Church, past president of the Matagorda Historical Society, past president of the Bay City Garden Club, past president of Matagorda Federation of Women’s Club and a lifetime member of and past president of the Bay City PTA. Survivors include three daughters, Billie Legg of Houston, Bobbye Coffer of Santa Fe, Texas, and Reggie Hales of Cleveland, Texas; a son, J.W. “Jim” Watson of Pearland, Texas; five sisters, Frankie Socha of Magnolia, Texas, Faye Hadley of El Campo, Hazel Andrews, Jo Smith and Thelma Gola, all of Bay City; three brothers, Austin Brumley of Bay City, H.T. Brumley of Freeport and Jack Brumley of Blessing; a stepson, Ragan Stone of Bay City; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers include Vernon Legg, Trey Phillips, John Williams, Terry Gibson, Kendall Coffer, and Greg Watson. Dale Stuckey, 47, passed away March 18, 2014 after a long battle with a malignant brain tumor. He is originally from Columbus, GA, but was living in Jefferson, GA. After graduating college, he was offered a position with Electromagnetic Sciences, which manufactured components that are used in the space and satellite communications industry. He worked in a supervisory position for 21 years, until he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. His survivors include his parents, Mavis Harvey Stuckey and Don Stuckey, originally from Palacios, TX; his wife, Dayna Stuckey; daughter, Madison Stuckey; brother, Guy Stuckey; sisters, Janine Johnston, Sherry Thompson, and Tonia Carroll. His grandparents, Littleton and Bertha Harvey, of Palacios, TX preceded him in death; along with a brother, Brixion Stuckey.

Richard Suffling Richard Armstrong Suffling Richard Armstrong Suffling, 55, a resident of Bay City, TX, died Sunday, February 24, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City, TX. Suffling, born November 14, 1929 in Richton, MS, came from the Newton area to work at Phillips Petroleum Company in Sweeny, TX, as an engineer and was in charge of general stock and shipping services. Suffling graduated from Mississippi State University in 1957, served in the Korean War and the U. S. Navy. Suffling is survived by his wife, Billie Joye Legg Suffling; one daughter, Mary Frances Suffling; one son, William Richard “Bill” Suffling all of Bay City, TX; two sisters, Dulcie Knoll of Hilton Head, S. C. and Sarah Jenkins of Occola, Ark; one brother, Ernest Suffling of Ashland, MS. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 26, 10:00 a. m., at the First Baptist Church of Bay City, TX. Dr. W. D. Suffling
Billie Joye was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas. She was the Girls Auxiliary Director and also director of the GA Texas Baptist Encampment in Palacios, Texas as well as being church secretary during this time. She taught her GA’s what missions were all about. She later taught Sunday School with Joe Rowland and helped in the church library with Carol Sue Gibbs. She was legal secretary/bookkeeper for E.M. Huitt Jr. and associates for over 50 years. Billie Joye was well loved in her small town and lived there her entire life. She loved her family and her church family. She always made time for everyone, always had a smile on her face, and was generous of her time, resources, and heart. Billie Joye is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband of 24 years, her three brothers: Richard Legg, Albert Legg, and Luster Legg, her two sisters: Neva Legg Myers and Margie Legg Quinn, three nephews: Rex Quinn Jr., Doug Myers, David Cartwright and one great nephew, John Scott Crab. Also Buttons, Chloe, Bernie, Jack, Max, Bob, Spencer, Sadie Brown, and Millie Suffling. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Frances Suffling of La Porte, Texas and her son, William Richard Suffling of League City, Texas, her sister, Norma Legg Cartwright McDonald of Bay City, Texas, nephews Gary Cartwright, Dick Quinn, and John R. Myers, nieces Lynda Couch, Suzi Fleetwood, and Barbara Crabb, numerous great nieces and nephews, grand dogs and cats: Calvin, Marlie, Sabrina, Rylie, and Destiny Joye Suffling, and extended family Cindy, Robert, Elijah, Isaiah, and Juni Lopez of Bay City, Texas. Mrs. Lillie Jo Sweeny Passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 7, 2010 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born to Della Lee and Robert Campbell Burt on Sept. 4, 1915. She was 94 years old. Mrs. Sweeny grew up in Sweeny, Texas and had a long career as a Southwestern Bell telephone operator in the Bay City and Wharton offices. After retirement and the death of her husband, Odie Sweeeny, she lived for several years in the Dallas area with her daughter, Gerogia Ann Sonnier. She spent the last years of her life back in Bay City as a resident at the Matagorda House Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter and her brothers and sisters Mary Meador, Arthur Lee Burt, Johnie Burt Robert C. Burt, Jr. and Laurine Farned. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, friends and other family members. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm to 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Don Storey officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Funeral services for Odie D. Sweeny, 75, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck. Mr. Sweeny was born Feb. 18, 1914 in Bay City to Charles Bennett and Georgia Maude Sisk Sweeny and died March 29, 1989, at Matagorda House Nursing Home, Bay City. Mr. Sweeny was instrumental in starting Little League in Bay City and served as a coach for 38 years. He was also active in many other youth activities. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lillie Jo Sweeny of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Georgia Ann and Joseph Estes of Grapevine, Texas; two sisters, Eva Lou Kennedy of New Caney and Helen Marie Mott of Corpus Christi; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include Charles Teutsch, Greg Westmoreland, Joe Lawhon, Joe Davis, Bill Zigo, Odie Kennedy, David Kennedy and T. J. Williams. Joye Suffling, 87, went to her eternal home on July 25, 2021. She
was born on November 27, 1933 in Bay City, Texas, to Richard Hubert
and Carrie Ethel Legg. She married Richard Armstrong Suffling on
11-12-1960 at First Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas.
