Betty Jeane Smith

The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith, age 2 weeks and 2 days, passed away Monday night in Houston. Funeral services we held here in the home of A. Frick, conducted by Rev. Kluck, pastor of the Methodist Church and assisted by Rev. White of Palacios. The remains were carried to Hawley for burial.

CARL TRAVIS SMITH JR.

BLESSING - Funeral services for Carl Travis "Bubba" Smith Jr., 50, of Blessing, will be held June 14, 2009. Graveside services will be held at 34 p.m., Sunday, at the Palacios Cemetery.

Carl "Bubba" Smith was born Sept. 4, 1958, in Palacios, to Carl Travis Smith Sr. and Jane Idell Sexton Smith. He passed away June 13, 2009, at the Palacios Healthcare Center.

He is survived by sister, Charlotte Saha and husband Marvin of El Maton; aunt and uncle, Mary Ann and Carlton Sexton of Palacios; nieces, Jane Saha and Kara Saha; and nephew, Greg and Rebecca Saha.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Travis Smith Sr. and Jane Idell Smith; and by his beloved Granny, Sarah Irene Sexton and her husband Carl Douglas Sexton.

Funeral services will be scheduled for Della Maxwell Smith, 79, of Blessing, 11 a.m. Friday at Bay City Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Smith died September 29, 1981 at Matagorda General Hospital.

 

Officiating at the services is the Rev. W. B. Chandler.

 

She is survived by son, Lesley Wayne Smith of Blessing, Robert Henry Smith of Alvin, Lester Smith of Alvin, William Lee Smith of Houston; daughters, Mrs. Barbra Ann Cargile of Pasadena, Mrs. Ola Mae Harter of Blessing, Mrs. Louise Smithey of Austin, Mrs. Lee Eva Chiapetta of Houston, Mrs. Wildeane Ertell of Freeport; brothers, Robert Maxwell of Clemville; sisters, Mrs. Dessie Frick, Mrs. Zelphia Ferguson and Mrs. Zella Bohuslar all of Markham, Mrs. Patsy Gunnels

Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Markham.

 

Burial will be held at Hawley Cemetery.

Doris Voorhies Smith

 

Doris Voorhies Smith, 74, of Brazoria died December 19, 2002 at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson. She was born September 10, 1928 in Tioga, La. to the late Guy and Katie Coburn McCormick. Doris was a resident of Brazoria since 1976, a former resident of Lake Jackson, and she was a member of the Baptist Church. She was a retired Secretary with Dow Chemical in Freeport.

 

Survivors include: husband, Jasper Roy Smith of Brazoria; sisters, her twin sister, Dorothy, Ivy G. Harrison both of Pineville, La., and Jimmy Raye Moore of Shreveport, La. She was preceded in death by two brothers, J. B. and Charles Coburn.

 

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2002, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Swift officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing, Texas.

 

Pallbearers will be Bryant Darrell, Mike Nolen, Tray Smith, Gary Coker, Donny Gardner and Charlie Smith.

Dwight Wayne Smith, 83, of Blessing passed away January 31, 2009.

He was born April 15, 1925 in Liberty, Ohio to the late Harvey and Emma Vogelsong Smith. He served in the US Navy during WWII and was a retired Commercial Fisherman.

Survivors include: his wife, Helen Jean Smith of Blessing; daughters, Tonya L. Kelly and husband Ed of Oklahoma, and Debra A. Underwood and husband Raymond of Ohio; sons, Dwayne Smith of Virginia and Harvey M. Smith of Texas; brother, John Smith of Ohio; grandchildren, Wayne C. McAvoy and wife Tabithia of Colorado, Wade A. Harold Jacob Smith

Graveside Funeral Services for Harold Jacob Smith, 85, of Bay City, are set for 2 p. m., Monday, Sept. 27, 1999 at Hawley Cemetery with Lawrence Gwin, Jr. officiating.

He died Thursday, Sept. 23 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born December 12, 1914 in Belize to Robert and Lillian Racburn Smith.

He worked many years in the air condition and refrigeration repair business.

Survivors include: wife, Alba Smith of Bay City; children, Jimmy Smith of San Pedro, Honduras, Louis Smith of New Orleans, LA., Dennis Smith of Renton, WA, Rosemary White and Joan Rooney of New Orleans, Sally Naeem of Chicago, Ill., Lilly Land of Spring and Louanna Maroquin of Houston; sister, Alfrida Brookbank of Cambridge, England; and 20 grandchildren.

Helen Jean Smith, 75, of Blessing, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Warm Springs Specialty Hospital in Victoria, Texas.

She was born March 4, 1934 in Bieber, California to Ardina Paul Miller and Melissa Ann Miller. She was a retired office assistant from Kelly Services at South Texas Nuclear Project.

She is survived by: her daughters, Tonya L. Kelley and husband Ed of Oklahoma, and Debra A. Underwood and husband Raymond of Ohio; sons, Dwayne Smith of Virginia and Harvey M. Smith of Texas; sister, Donna Caldwell of Redding, California; grandchildren, Wayne C. McAvoy and wife Tabithia of Colorado, Wade A. McAvoy and wife Susan of Ohio, April D. McKinney and husband Ricky of Texas, Becky Smith and Randy Smith both of Ohio, Alexis Marie Smith and Megan Renae Smith both of Texas, Dwight R. Mrs. Ima Smith, 84, of Markham died Monday, December 18 in Matagorda General Hospital. She was born March 4, 1894 in Logan, Kansas. Irene Smith, 80, of Bay City passed away April 19, 2008. She was born October 25, 1927 in Bronte, Texas to the late William Otha & Eva Lena Richardson Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ford Smith in 1980. Survivors include daughter & son –in-law Pamela & Charles Davis of Longview; son and daughter-in-law Randall & Brenda Smith of Bay City; sister Frances Brinkley of Rosenberg; four grandchildren Robbins Davis, Wesley Lichty & husband David, Brooke Davis and Ford Greyson Smith; great granddaughter Chloe Lichty and longtime friend Bobbie Ayers.

Irma Jane Smith, 86, of Bay City died at Bay Villa Nursing Home. She was a life-long resident of Matagorda County, a member of the First Baptist Church of Markham for 40 years prior to becoming a member of First Baptist in Bay City.

Survivors include: son, Oscar W. Smith of Sargent, Joe G. Smith of Splendora, Thomas B. Patricia “Patsy” Smith, 67 of Blessing, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009 in Victoria, TX. She was born February 8, 1941 in Palacios, TX to Ruth Lorena Jordan Blackburn and Benjamin Lewis Blackburn, Sr.

 

She was a resident of Blessing for the past five years and was a former resident of Bay City. She was a member of the Baptist Church and was retired from Bay City ISD as a Teachers Aide for Special Education.

 

She is survived by her daughter: Sharon Pegram & husband James of Blessing; her son: John Darrell Smith of San Antonio; her sisters: Benita Thompson of Palacios and Pearl Zemanek of Bay City; her brother: Benjamin Lewis Blackburn, Jr. of Lolita; and by 4 grandchildren: Scott & Justin Pegram and Joshua and Samantha Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband: J. B. Smith; and her parents: Ruth Lorena & Benjamin Lewis Blackburn, Sr.

She was born July 27, 1928, in Okmulgee, Okla. to the late Ted R. and Verba Margaret Ingram Tudor. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

 

Survivors: husband, Leon Smith; daughters, Ann Annels of Bay City, Cathy Shearin of Rocky Mount, N.C., Margaret Smith of Palacios, and Terry Brooks of Victoria; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

 

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Palacios.

Mrs. Mary Mosier Smith

Mrs. Mary Mosier Smith, relict of the late John B. Smith, died at her home near Midfield yesterday and will be buried in Hawley Cemetery tomorrow, June 1.

Decedent was born in Callihan County, Texas, November 7, 1853. She has been living in Matagorda County for a number of years and had formed many strong attachments with the people of her neighborhood.

Mr. Smith, 86, was born March 3, 1902, in Grayson, La., to James A. Smith and the former Elizabeth Mixon and died Aug. 11, 1988, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. A member of the Blessing Baptist Church, he was a resident of Blessing since 1952; had lived in the county since 1932; and was a retired Tidehaven Independent School District employee.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Francis Smith.

Sammy Lee Smith
Jan. 3, 1930 - Dec. 9, 2006

Funeral services for Sammy Lee Smith, "Big Rock", 76, of Bay City, will be held Thursday, December 14, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Tyree Chapel A.M.E. Church, Bay City, the Rev. J. T. Garnett, pastor, and the Rev. K. W. Bree, eulogist. Burial will follow at St. Mark Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

He was born in Bay City, Texas, January 3, 1930, to Robert Smith and Elnora Collins Smith, and passed away December 9, 2006, in Bay City.

Survivors include: one sister, Edna Cathey of San Antonio; six nieces, Raybe Franklin, Jewel King, Eula Pruett, Shirley Cathey, Donnye Stone and Bonnye Massey; and eight nephews, Ronnie, Sterling, James, Bobby and Paul Cathey and Jackie, Michael and Jimmy Massey. Also a host of other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Ira Joe Edison, Frank Franklin, Robert Franklin, Jr., Stevie Franklin and Chevis Wilcox.

Arrangements are with Duncan - Roberts Funeral Home, Bay City, Texas.

Spencer Smith
(October 22, 1943 - August 15, 2007)

Robert Spencer “Katfish” Smith was born October 22, 1943 in Bay City to Eugene Clifford and Annie Jo Webb Smith. After living in Corpus Christi for 10 years, he returned to Bay City to care for his elderly father. He was a longtime offshore fisherman, loved to play his guitar, sing, fish, wheel & deal and hang out with his many friends and family who will all miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother in 2000 and grandson, Logan Smith in 2004. He is survived by his father Eugene Clifford “Gene” Smith; three children Sheila Treybig of Bay City and her children Trey & Tyler, Shane & Jennifer Smith of Van Vleck and their children Amber & Lacy and Shannon & Lisa Smith of Corpus Christi & their children Brooke & Dylan; and two brothers David Wayne Smith of Selkirk and Larry Wayne Smith of Baytown.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, August 20, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Bay City with Rev. Tom Morgan and Rev. Chris Harrison officiating. Pallbearers include Teddy Anzaldua, Ernie Borio, Clyde Davis, Jeff Dutcher, Kenny Griffin, Bob Henderson, Ricky Ingram, Donald Kelly, Robert Kent, Jeff Mitchell, Roy Moffitt, Paul Otis, Glenn Parks, Ernie Rogers, Steve Sliva, Bill Thurber, Danny Wells, and D. Tommy Lee Smith

Feb. 7, 1938 - Dec. 22, 2009

Tommy Lee Smith, 71, of Clute, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009, after a lengthy illness. Tommy was born February 7, 1938, in Collegeport, Texas, to Melvin Roy and Mabel Lee Christian Smith.

Tommy served in the Air Force, stationed in Germany, from 1957 to 1960. After receiving an honorable discharge he returned to Matagorda County.

Tommy is preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Alfred Smith and a sister Helen Francis Smith.

He is survived by: daughter, Karen Capak George (Wayne) of Midfield, Texas; sons, Kurt Smith of Bay City, Texas and Todd Smith of La Garto, Texas; brothers Jasper Roy Smith of Clute, Charlie Wayne Smith (Helen) of Blessing, Texas, Frank Smith (Mary Ann) of Bay City, Texas; sisters, Doris Bowen of Edna, Texas, Marylou Thurman of Justin, Texas, Gail Helwig (AL) of Victoria, Texas and Joyce Cochran (Charles) of Georgetown, Texas, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 am, January 2 at Blessing Baptist Church.

Tonya Annette Smith
(February 28, 1962 - January 26, 2006)

Tonya Annette Smith, 43, of Bay City passed away Thursday, January 26, 2006 at her Residence. She was born February 28, 1962 in Bay City to Eugene Hershall & Bobbie Elizabeth Byrd Sherry. Mrs. Smith was a life long resident of Bay City and a Member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church.

Tonya is survived by her husband: Gordon M. Smith of Bay City; daughter& son-in-law: Natasha & Shane Sullivan of Bay City; son: Gordon W. Smith of Bay City; sister & brother-in-law: Lynette & Rev. Tommy Taylor of Brookshire; 1 grandchild: Kory Sullivan of Bay City; and parents: Eugene & Bobbie Sherry of Bay City.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 30, 2006 at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church with Rev. Sam Starks officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be: Turner Jay, Chris Owen, C.J. Ratliff, Greyson Smith, Shane Sullivan, and Tommy Taylor. Veronica “Vicki” Smith
Sept. 19, 1951 – March 16, 2011

Veronica “Vicki” Smith, 59, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, March 16, 2011, surrounded by family and friends at her home in Bay City, Texas.

She was born on September 19, 1951, in Raymondville, Texas, to the late Guy and Catherine Baird.

Vicki graduated from Palacios High School in 1969. 

Vicki was a dedicated employee for the United States Postal Service for 31 years.

Vicki was a devout Christian, mother, grandmother, and friend who was faithful to God, and all those she loved. 

Vicki is survived by: her children, daughter, Melanie Bock and husband Allan, of Van Vleck, Texas, daughter, Ginger Beyer and husband Richard, of Markham, Texas, son, Charles Smith, of Austin, Texas, daughter, Misty Bryant and husband Derick of Wadsworth, Texas; grandchildren, Teran Casey, Madison Simons, Tanner Casey, Emma Beyer, and Kella Beyer; brothers, Guy Baird and wife Becki, Larry Baird and wife Beth, and Bill Quinn and wife Donna.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Guy Baird and Catherine Quinn and brother, Douglas Baird.

 Services were held Saturday March 19, 2011, starting at 9:30 am with Divine Mercy Chaplet and 10 am Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Bay City, Texas.

A Scholarship Memorial fund has been set up at Prosperity Bank in Vicki Smith’s name to honor and bless the charities she loved and cherished.
