Edward Dannelley

August 14, 1937 - June 1, 2017

Edward Dannelley, 79, of Van Vleck, Texas passed away June 1, 2017.

He was born August 14, 1937 in Mobile, Alabama to Edd and Madge Newman Dannelley.

Ed served his country in the U.S. Army. He doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ed loved riding his motorcycle and later in life, RVing. He never met a stranger.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Brooks; brothers, Billy Dannelley and Paul Richardson; and sons, Jim and Rodney Dannelly.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rosie Blair Dannelley; daughters, Tammy Quinn of Pearland, TX and Nancy Dannelley of Van Vleck; grandchildren, James Dannelley Jr., Michael Dannelley, Siena Bradford and husband Lane; great-grandchildren, James Dannelley III, Hunter Dannelley, Trevor Dannelley and Jason Dannelly; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Penny.

The family received friends and relatives from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Van Vleck with Bro. Bob Hobbins officiating.

Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

James E. “Jim” Darby

Funeral services for James E. “Jim” Darby, 70, Bay City, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Milton McWilliams officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery

Mr. Darby was born Aug. 12, 1914, and died Dec.  28, 1984 at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and the Masonic Lodge of Bay City.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Marie Darby; two daughters, Shirley Archer of Hearn, Texas, and Linda Worthy of Livingston; three sons, W. R. “Rick” Darby of Boneta, Calif., Brent Darby of Van Vleck and Jeff Darby of Palacios; a brother, Exxon Darby of Winnsboro; four sisters, Polly Heller of Santu, Calif., Bobbie Taylor, Sallie Aline Carter and Consulow Elliott, all of Winnsboro; a son-in-law, Paul Scheel of Bay City; and 12 grandchildren.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of a favorite charity.

Devin Lee Davalos

(October 15, 1999 - October 12, 2017)

Devin Lee Davalos, 17, of Bay City, passed away October 12, 2017. He was born October 15, 1999 in Galveston Texas to Derrick Lee and Liza Rodriguez Davalos.

Devin was loved by so many. We know he is celebrating in Heaven now. He had a never-ending smile and love for people. He was a loving son, brother, friend, and dad to his puppy Baxter. Devin will be missed, but never forgotten.

Devin is survived by his parents; great grandparents Timeteo Davalos and Modesta Davalos; brothers Damian Davalos (Haley) and Derrick Davalos, Jr. (Michelle).

The family will receive friends and relatives 5:00-7:00pm Friday, October 20 at the funeral home. Services are 10:00am Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, with Franc Piaz officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Infant Davis

Mr. Davis living on Dr. Bouldin’s plantation, lost a new-born babe on Wednesday night. It was buried at the Bay City cemetery.

Karen Rogers Davis

Karen Rogers Davis passed away May 23, 2017 after a lengthy illness. She was 61.

Born in Pearsall, Texas on September 17, 1955. Karen and her family moved to Bay City when she was young. She graduated from Bay City High School in 1974.

Karen was beloved by all who knew her. Her charitable nature extended to friends, family and strangers. She always tried to see the good in everyone she met and more often than not her optimism rubbed off on those around her.

Although she never had any children, she reserved a special place in her heart for her cats, Elvis, Biscuit, Jake, Dooley and Jane.

Karen married the love of her life, Michael, in 1980 and they lived in Beaumont, San Antonio and Houston as Michael pursued his career in journalism. In 1994, she went to work at a specialty toy store in Houston named Child’s Play and it was at that job where she met a circle of friends who remained close to her for more than two decades.

Karen is survived by her husband, Michael Logan Davis; her twin sister, Kathy Blaylock; sisters, Sandra Rogers, Charlotte Janosky and Darla McCubbins.

Burial will be at a private ceremony at the Grimes Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 250 Williams St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30303.

Paul Arthur Davis
December 22, 1944 ~ March 1, 2017

Paul Arthur Davis was the first born to Archie Davis and Frances Martha Davis on December 22, 1944, in Palacios, Texas.

Paul went to Hilliard High in Bay City, Texas.

Later Paul gained the Army in May 1968 & traveled to many countries such as Korea and Germany.  He also traveled to Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Paul enrolled in Wharton County Junior College for a year, after he retired in 1988.  After college he worked at Matagorda General Hospital for five years before retiring again to travel.  He united with Pilgrim Rose Baptist Church on March 3, 1988.

Paul departed this life on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at age seventy-two.  He was survived by his loving wife, Mattie Davis of Palacios; mother, Frances Matthews;  one daughter, Rachel Armendariz (Armando); grandchildren, Jasmine and Jonaye Davis; one great-grandson, Keyaan Pryor; two sisters, Barbara Peters of Houston and Betty Sanford (Don) of Lake Jackson; four brothers, Archie Davis, Jr. of Olivia, Kenneth Davis, Herbert Davis both of Lake Jackson, and Vernon Matthews, Jr. (Cindy) of Pflugerville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Archie Davis; and two brothers, James Davis and Willie Davis.

Romona Dell Lafferty Davis
August 11, 1930 - June 14, 2017

Romona Dell Lafferty Davis, 86, entered into eternal rest on June 14, 2017, Bay City, Texas.

She was born August 11, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to her parents Charles Edward Lafferty and Anna Dell Lafferty Mangum, and fifteen minutes after her twin sister, Coloma.

Romona and her family moved to Bay City when she was six years old.  She graduated from Bay City High School in 1947 and from there a student at St. Joseph's School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse.  She was a Registered Nurse with Matagorda General Hospital for many years and later moved to Palestine, Texas and was a nurse at Palestine Memorial Hospital until she retired.

Romona devoted many years to the Presbyterian Church. First Presbyterian Church, Bay City, First Presbyterian Church, Palestine and St. Thomas Presbyterian Church in Houston.  After moving back to Bay City in 2007, she was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, Bay City.  She loved the Lord's creation of nature - flowers, birds, especially hummingbirds, and the beach.  She loved her career of nursing and caring for others.  Reading was her hobby, the Bible, devotionals and Christian fiction books.  Cats were very special to her and gave her much joy.

Romona was a wonderful daughter, sister, nurse, friend but most of all, a loving Mother.  She will be greatly missed by her three daughters.  She always put her daughters first in her life and taught them about the love of God.

Romona was preceded in death by her father, Charles Edward Lafferty; mother, Anna Lafferty Mangum; step-father, Harvey Mangum; twin sister, Coloma Dell Lafferty; and her grand-daughter, Brandy Lynn Etheridge.

She is survived by her three daughters, Hazel Ann Davis Saunders (Darwin Saunders) of Macon, GA, Sandra Kay Davis Burleson (Pat Burleson) of Kingwood, TX and Rebecca Lynn Davis Etheridge of Bay City, TX; grandchildren, Tiffany Ann Burleson Cherry of Rosenberg, TX, Keith Kolwes of Houston, TX, Eli Saunders of Macon, GA, Sandy Saunders of Greenville, SC, Carrie Saunders Price of Lexington, KY, Andrea Saunders Woodward Frankfort, KY, Christy Saunders of Macon, GA and Traci Saunders Baggarly of Macon, GA; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas, with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating.

Private graveside services will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas.

The family extends a special thanks to Houston Hospice El Campo and the many private aides who cared for her in the last year.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Bay City, American Cancer Society or SPCA.

Mrs. Mary Dawson

Mrs. Mary Dawson, aged 81 years; at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. R. T. Burgess, this morning at 11 o’clock. Mrs. Dawson had been a resident of Bay City about two years.

Surviving immediate relatives are a daughter, Mrs. R. T. Burgess, and a son, G. E. Dawson of Bay City and a daughter, Mrs. Vesta Wilson of Aransas Pass, Texas.

Interment will be made here in Cedarvale cemetery tomorrow. The hour for the service has not been arranged yet.

Sharon E. Brune Dean

PALACIOS - Sharon E. (Brune) Dean passed away March 26, 2017 at the age of 74. She was born January 31, 1943 in Palacios, Texas to the late Edmund and Mary Brune.

She was a loving and caring sister and aunt and will be missed and loved by her family forever.

She is survived by her brothers Sonny and JoAnn Brune, Jack Brune, Royce and Patti Brune and Michael Brune; sisters Joyce Hunter, Mary Ann and Ralph Brown and Deborah and Rick Williams; sister-in-law Bobbie Brune and nephew Jason Brune who was her special caretaker. She had numerous nieces and nephews who will truly miss her.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Donnie Dean; brother Kenneth Brune, nephew Kyle Weed and brother-in-law Trammel Hunter.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Joe Delk, 64, of Alvin, died in Friendswood, Texas, Oct. 31, 1976 at 11:15 p. m. He was born Sept. 18, 1912 in Egypt, Texas. He is survived by his son Leroy Delk of Humble, Texas, a sister, Della Gates of New Caney, Texas, two step sisters, Mrs. E. L. “Bessie” Kridner of Alvin, Mrs. Willie J. Lee of Alvin and two grandchildren. The funeral will be from the graveside in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City Wednesday at 12:30 p. m. Funeral arrangements are under Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Funeral Services Held Monday For Mrs. Delk - Julia K. Delk

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. W. W. Delk, 49, who died at the family residence one mile southeast of Bay City Sunday afternoon at 1:10 after an illness of some duration.

Mrs. Delk is survived by her husband, W. K. Delk; one daughter, Mrs. Della Gates, Clemville, and one son, Joe.

Walker-Matchett had charge of the funeral arrangements. The Rev. Marvin Vance of the First Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Funeral Services For Former Resident Held Here Thursday - William K. Delk

Funeral services for William K. Delk, 79, a former resident of Bay City, were held last Thursday at the Matchett-Newman Funeral Home with burial in Cedarvale Cemetery, the Rev. Jester White of Alvin officiating.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Kridnes of Manvell, Mrs. Henry Lee of Houston, and Mrs. Della Gates of Clemville; one son, Joe Delk of Alvin, and a brother, J. B. Delk of Bay City.

Geraldine Williams DeMaio

Geraldine (Williams) DeMaio, age 81, of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late Frederick J. DeMaio, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, in St. Vincent Medical Center after a long illness and hospitalization.

Mrs. DeMaio was born on October 11, 1923 in Silver City, N. Mex., a daughter of the late Loren and Noraetta (Laremore) Williams.

Geraldine was a native of the Western U.S., spending her early years homesteading in Mesa, Ariz. She moved to Bay City, Texas where she attended Texas Women’s College in Denton, Texas. During World War II, Geraldine married Fred DeMaio and moved East to New Jersey.

She was an avid musician, playing violin and a beautiful artist working in water color and oil. After an active 40-year life on the East coast, she returned to the West to Prescott, Ariz. with her husband where she sang with Prescott Pines Adeline’s, Sweet Adeline’s, and served as their president. Geraldine lived in Telluride, Colo., with her daughter, Josephine in 1996-1997.

During her time in the mountains, she sang with the Telluride Choral Society and painted. Geraldine and Fred returned to Connecticut in 2001 and lived at Spring Meadows Retirement Community in Trumbull, where she enjoyed a close life with her daughter, Laura.

Geraldine was a deeply religious woman; she became a Benedictine Oblate and prayed weekly with the Immaculate Mary Cenacle. She was also a devout member of St. Stephen’s Church in Trumbull. She sang until the end.

She is survived by: her devoted daughters, Laura Regnier and her husband, Jim, of Weston, Conn., and Josephine Fallenius and her husband, Erik, of Telluride, Colo., and her cherished grandsons; Adam and Colin Regnier and Karl and Ian Fallenius.

Services are private. There are no calling hours.

The Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Route 111, Monroe, CT, is in charge of arrangements.

Marvin Wesley Dennard

Marvin Wesley “Mig” Dennard, 75, of Odessa, Texas died July 9, 2001 at the Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

He was born November 15, 1925 in Sudgen, Okla. to the late Charles and Georgia Allen Dennard.

Mr. Dennard was a member of the Unitarian Church, a resident of Odessa since 1990 and a former longtime resident of Bay City. He was a retired Machinist Technician with Phillips Petroleum, and was a veteran of WWII serving in the U. S. Navy.

Survivors include: wife, Jewell Dennard of Odessa; daughter and son-in-law, Luanne and Wayne Bellah of Port Lavaca; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Crayden and Debbie Dennard of Bay City, Mark and Donna Dennard of College Station; stepdaughter, Mylanda Bettis Smith and husband Nick of Midland, Texas; step-son, Harold Bettis and wife Paula of Colorado Springs; sister, Betty King of Mustang, Okla.; brother, Donald Dennard of Duncan, Okla.; six grandchildren, Christine Greaves and husband Craig of Bryan, Wes Dennard of College Station, Allyson Swope and husband Barrett of Port Lavaca, Cullen Bellah of Port Lavaca, Kelly Dennard of College Station and Chris Dennard of Bay City; one great grandson, William Swope of Port Lavaca; two stepgrandchildren, Allyson Smith of Midland and Amanda Foresyth and husband Paul of Big Spring, Texas.

He was preceded in death by: his first wife Peggy S. Dennard; and by three brothers, Dowell, Ray and Jimmy Dennard.

Funeral services will be at 10 a. m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sam Steele officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wes, Kelly, and Chris Dennard, Cullen Bellah, Phil Bennett and Mike Bricker.

Funeral Services Are Held Thursday For Mrs. J. M. Dicuss – Linnie E. Dicus

Funeral services were held last Thursday morning for Mrs. J. M. Dicuss, 66, who died the day before at her home in Gulf. She had lived there for some eighteen or twenty years.

Surviving is her husband.

Taylor Brothers were in charge of the services and burial was in the Cedarvale Cemetery. The Rev. Marvin Vance officiated.

October 13, 1965 - September 3, 2017

 

Lydia Dominguez, 51, of Bay City, TX passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

 

She was born October 13, 1965 in Scottsboro, AL to the late Miguel and Elida Rodriquez Garcia. Lydia was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to watch home improvement shows and shop.

 

She is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Angel Dominguez; three children, Angel Dominguez Jr., Corina Dominguez and Anthony Dominguez; grandson, Grayson Dominguez; six brothers; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Lydia is preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Oscar Garcia and Baldemar Garcia.

 

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

 

Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City with Monsignor Gerry Cernoch, celebrant.

 

There will be an additional visitation on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 10 a.m. to closing with an additional Rosary at 6 p.m. at the Guerra Funeral Home in Weslaco, TX.

 

The rite of committal will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, TX.

Bruce Edward Donohoe

Bruce Edward Donohoe, 58, of Magnolia, Texas peacefully passed away May 16, 2017.

He was born September 20, 1958 in Biloxi, Mississippi to William Edward Donohoe and Ural Lee Stanford Donohoe.

He taught school at the Aldine/McArthur ISD for 30 years.

He is survived by his parents, Bill and Ural Donohoe of Bay City; brothers, Terry Alan Donohoe of Bay City and Roger Glen Donohoe and his wife Valerie of Hyde Park, Utah; along with a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family received friends and relatives from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Starks officiating.

William Edward Donohoe
January 10, 1934 - April 18, 2019

William Edward Donohoe was born January 10, 1934 and passed away April 18, 2019.

He was born in Grand Saline, TX to James and Bertie Waymire Donohoe.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 until 1962. During that time he met and married the love of his life, Ural Lee Stanford on December 1, 1957.

Bill worked for the US Postal Service in Bay City, TX for 26 years. During that time he also served as a reserve officer for the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Department and the Bay City Police Department. After retiring from the post office, he worked as a patrol officer for the Sweeny Police Department. He retired from there as a patrol officer and became a Captain of the reserves and served until 2009 when he took final retirement.

Bill and Ural raised three sons, Bruce Edward Donohoe, Terry Alan Donohoe and Roger Glen Donohoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Robbie Donohoe and his eldest son, Bruce Edward Donohoe.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ural Lee Donohoe; sons Terry and Roger; 5 grandchildren Rebecca, Madison, Jericka, Tanneah and Mekayla and her husband Chase Jaros, 5 great grandchildren Tace, Dia, Sage, Goldie and Shiloh and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5PM until 7PM Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2PM Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Milner, Tony Hammock, Fawn Acuff and Robert Hammock.

Lillian Dry

(April 27, 1925 - February 28, 2017)

Lillian Dry, 91, of Bay City passed away February 28, 2017. She was born April 27, 1925 in Fayetteville, Texas to the late Paul Venglar and Carrie Cervenka Venglar. She was an X-ray Technician at Matagorda General Hospital for many years. Lillian was a longtime resident of Bay City, and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She spent most of her time in the kitchen where she enjoyed cooking, reading the newspaper, and listening to Czech and polka music.

She was preceded in death by her husband William O. Dry. Survivors include son Jim Dry and his wife Dianne of Sweeny; sister Doris Strauss of Caldwell, Texas; grandchildren Shelley Miller and her husband Clark, Wendy Shipley and her husband Thomas, Troy Dry and Jacob Daniel and great grandchild Sheldon Engel.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5PM until 7PM Friday, March 3, 2017 at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM with Rev. Greg Korenek officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gene Koudelka, Clark Miller, Troy Dry, Jacob Daniel, Bill Broaddus and David Strauss.
