William R. Falknor & Mary E. Falknor

William Richard Falknor

Funeral services for William Richard Falknor of Bay City will be held at 1 pm Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Msgr. James Brunner officiating. Rosary will be said at 7:30 pm Friday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck. 

Mr. Falknor, 61, was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Enid, Okla., to Levi Falknor Sr. and the former Annie Mae Gordon and died Nov. 3, 1988 at his home.  He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and was a WWII veteran. 

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Falknor of Bay City; two daughters, Shirley Thompson of Houston, and Michelle Falknor of Bay City; four sons, Larry W. and Ronald Falknor, both of Bay City, Kenneth Falknor of El Paso and Jesse Falknor of Houston; three sisters, Rosellee Lowe of Channelview, Margaret Watkins of Porter and Betty Jo Olds of New Caney; three brothers, James and Levi Falknor Jr., both of Houston, and David Falknor of Huntsville; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerry West, Al Kemp, Tom Forehand, Adam Rodriguez, Curtis Riske and Jimmie Naiser.  Arrangements under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Mary E. Falknor

A rosary service for Mary E. Falknor, of 75, of Bay City will be held at 7:30 p. m. at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.  The Funeral Mass will be at 2 pm Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Falknor died Feb. 3, 1999 at her residence.  She was born Jan. 18, 1924 to the late Martin E. and Catherine Sebastian Kowis in Montgomery County, TX.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a resident of Bay City since 1964, and a former resident of Houston.

Falknor is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Michelle Falknor and Fred Trevino of Alvin and Shirley Thompson of Houston; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Kimberlee Falknor and Jesse Falknor all of Bay City, Kenneth and Kathleen Falknor, Larry and Ann Falknor all of El Paso; sisters, Theresa Miculek of Richmond, TX, Madeline Prince of Antioch, Calif. Ellenor Tompkins of San Antonio  and Katherine Falknor of Houston; brother, August Kowis of Plantersville, TX; and grandchildren, Stuart Falknor and wife Casey of Frisco, Co., Laurie Falknor of College Station, Leslie Falknor of Corpus Christi, Kara Falknor of El Paso, Kendall Falknor of El Paso, Evelyn Trevino of Alvin and Dylan Falknor of Bay City.

Falknor was preceded in death by her husband Richard Falknor on Nov. 3, 1988; sisters, Ann Eidem and Rose Komoll; and brothers, Albert, Louis, Leo, Leonard, Johnny and Martin Kowis.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Donald Falknor, Stuart and Jason Falknor, Jim Naiser, Thomas Kovar, Charles Miculek, Jimmy Brangan, and Fred Trevino.

Memorial may be made to Holy Cross School Foundation. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Arnold Fanson
 

Arnold Fanson, 88, of Wadsworth, died June 7, 2001 at his residence. He was born July 31, 1912 in Chicago, Ill. to the late George William and Jennie Maude Beedy Fanson.

Mr. Fanson moved to Matagorda County in 1923, attended school in Wadsworth and graduated from Gulf High in 1932.

On August 21, 1935, he married Minnie Moberly in Matagorda.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Matagorda as well as a 50 year member of Matagorda Masonic Lodge No. 7 AF &AM.

Mr. Fanson had an extensive work history in the county including unloading shell from rail cars with shovels and spreading on the streets of Wadsworth; breaking horses for ranches around Wadsworth and Matagorda; working cattle for George Sargent and working for Texas Gulf Sulphur Co.

He owned and operated the Wadsworth Garage for 30 years and was a road foreman for Matagorda County Precinct No. 2 for eight years.

County Commissioners proclaimed March 25, 2000 as "Arnold Fanson Day" in Matagorda County in recognition of his many good deeds and for making Wadsworth and Matagorda County a better place to live.

Survivors include: wife of 65 years, Minnie M. Fanson of Wadsworth; son and daughter-in-law, George and Mary Fanson of Wadsworth; three grandchildren, Carrie Fultz and husband Lonnie of Wadsworth, Carmin Bertling and husband Craig of Kingsbury and Suzie Smith and husband Rodney of Bay City; five great grandchildren, Brett and Ashlyn Fultz, Tanner Bertling, Rodney Jr. and Austin Smith; God daughter Ruthie White Gideon of Spring, Texas; sisters-in-law, Ida Fanson of Seguin, Texas and Pearl Fanson of Galveston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: four sisters, Nola Ritter, Lois Mueller, Margaret Kelley and Leotta Ritter, and three brothers, Robert, Lyman and Elmer Fanson.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 11 at Taylor Bros Funeral Home with the Rev. Dottie Dumas officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers include: Johnny Layton, Brent Kirby, Melvin Ryman, Charles Hale, George Deshotels and Greg Westmoreland. Honorary pallbearers are Kermit Gideon, Lonnie Fultz, Craig Bertling and Rodney Smith.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Matagorda.

Minnie Moberley Fanson
 

Minnie Moberley Fanson, 89, of Wadsworth, Texas died at her residence February 10, 2003. She was born on August 4, 1913 in Matagorda, Texas to the late Elbert S. and Bessie Mae Howard Moberley.

Mrs. Fanson was a life time member of the Matagorda United Methodist Church and has been a resident of Wadsworth since 1946.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law: George Arnold and Mary Fanson of Wadsworth; three grandchildren: Carrie Fultz and husband Lonnie of Wadsworth, Carmin Bertling and husband Craig of Kingsbury and Suzie Smith and husband Rodney of Wadsworth. six great grandchildren: Brett and Ashlyn Fultz, Tanner and Lexi Bertling, and Austin and Rodney Smith, Jr. God daughter: Ruthie White Gideon of Spring, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold A. Fanson and by his sister, Edith Milliff.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2003, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frances Foger officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Wayne Brown, Chad Kelley, David Kelley, Brent Kirby, Mike Milliff, and Johnny Layton.

The family will receive friends at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Infant Son of Mr. And Mrs. G. L. Fanson Dies – Gerald Fanson

Gerald Fanson, age 1 month and 8 days, died suddenly Friday. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Fanson, and one sister, Annette.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3 o’clock at the family residence in Wadsworth. Taylor Brothers are in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Fanson, 70 of Wadsworth, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007 in Bay City. She was born April 24, 1936 in Bay City to the late Henry B. Lewis and Irene “MeMe” Bruce Lewis. She was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband: George A. Fanson of Wadsworth; her daughters and sons-in-law: Carrie & Lonnie Fultz of Wadsworth, Carmin & Craig Bertling of Kingsbury and Suzie & Rodney Smith of Wadsworth; by her sister: Jessie Kay of Brazoria; by nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hardaway officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. George Arnold Fanson
March 02, 1939 - March 31, 2021

George Arnold Fanson, 82, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at his home in Wadsworth, Texas. He was born March 2, 1939 in New Gulf, Texas to the late Arnold Austin Fanson, and Minnie Moberley Fanson.

George was a loving husband, father and papaw who never met a stranger. He worked at Texas Gulf as a machinist for 19 years till it closed, the relocated to Sequin where he retired from the city, then returning home to Wadsworth.

Growing up, George could always be found on his horse Lady. In his heart he was always a cowboy, and never left home without his hat cowboy hat. He attended college for gunsmithing, enjoyed hunting, woodworking and singing country music. He could whistle any tune and was perfectionist with everything he did.

George was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Matagorda Masonic Lodge. He loved his family, life and was a true friend. He will truly be missed by many.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife and mother of his children, Carmel Raylene Reynolds, Mary Etta Lewis, mother to his children, and later in life, Anita Katzer. He is survived by his daughter Carrie & son-in-law Lonnie Fultz, Carmen Bertling, and Suzie Fanson; grandchildren Brett & Ashlyn Fultz, Tanner, Lexi, Luke and Cammi Bertling, Rodney, Jr., Austin and Faith Smith; great-grandsons Garrett and Carter Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; and being an only child, George has many close cousins that were like siblings to him he leaves behind.

The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 1:00pm Monday, April 5, 2021 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00pm with Noe Cano officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas. Pallbearers are Brett Fultz, Rodney Smith, Austin Smith, Tanner Bertling, Luke Bertling and Lonnie Fultz.

A special thank you to Dr. Zuniga and his medical team, Angels Home Health and Amed Hospice for the love and care given to our dad.

Oscar Ernest Fikes

Funeral services were held Sept. 1 for Oscar Ernest Fikes, 73, of Bay City with the Revs. Joe Crosson and Glenn Montgomery officiating.

Fikes died Aug. 30 near Old Gulf.  He is survived by his wife, Earnestine Fikes of Bay City; daughters Louise Teutsch of Bay City, Ruth Melton of Alvin, Annette Gamble of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Lula May Keith of Old Ocean; brothers, Ocie Fikes of Deutschburg, Elmer Fikes of Silsby; and nine grandchildren.

Burial was in Roselawn.  Pallbearers included James Teutsch, Charles “Pete” Arnold, Bruce Melton, Scott Melton and Russell Melton.

BAY CITY - Ernestine Smith Fikes, 86, of Bay City, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004.

She was born March 11, 1917, in Texarkana, Ark., to the late George R. and Minnie Vola Carter Smith. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and former member of Rebecca Lodge of Bay City. She was owner and operator of Fikes Drapery.

Survivors: daughters, Alma Louise Teutsch of Bay City, Naomi Ruth Melton of Georgetown and Annette "Nettie" Gamble of Monroe, N.C.; foster daughter, Carolyn Fay Schultz Webb of Port O'Connor; sisters, Georgie Ida Knight of Bay City and Shirley Ester Barfield of Sweeny; brother, Eugene Clifford Smith of Bay City; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Oscar Ernest Fikes; sisters, Ruth Pauline Denton, Gena Fay Warwick and Vera Delora Morgan; brothers, Raymond Lee Smith, Earl Wesley Smith, Robert Lee Smith and George Alfred Smith; and granddaughter, Traci Dale Teutsch.

The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. tonight at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel.

July 15, 1974 –February 16, 2014

Shelley Deneane Jurek Fischer, peacefully stepped into heaven on Sunday, February 16, 2014.

Shelley was born on July 15, 1974 in Bay City to Joe and Nancy Eilbeck Jurek Jr. Shelley loved anything outdoors, including fishing, crabbing, hunting, and tending to her cows. Shelley always searched for the fun in life and found it outdoors, from ladybugs and frogs, to finding seashells on the beach. Shelley had a collection of items for her home from the 1960s and 1970s. Shelley was the most loving wife, step-mom, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin.

Shelley is survived by her husband of four years, David Fischer; two step-daughters, Ashley and Rylee; father, Joe Jurek Jr.; mother, Nancy Hinton; step-father, Leon Hinton; three sisters, Cindy West and husband Lowell, Christine Torres and husband Daniel, and Jennifer Perez and husband Roger; nieces and nephews, Dalton and Blaine Pevete, Ashleigh Fontenot, Desiree Perez, Kristiana Perez, Andrea Floyd, Madison Ziegler and Haden West; great-niece, Mikayla Martinez; maternal grandfather, James Franklin Eilbeck Sr.; and paternal grandmother, Rosie Jurek.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Elsie Geneal Eilbeck; paternal grandfather, Joe Jurek Sr; maternal step-grandmother, Ruth Hinton Wagner; and maternal step-sister, Kimberly Hinton.

The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the funeral home.

Mr. M. F. Frieze, a former resident of Markham, Texas passed away in Sulphur, Louisiana, last night. His remains will arrive on the Missouri Pacific tonight.

Mr. Frieze is survived by his wife, two sisters, Mrs. H. C. Keith, Mrs. Bankhead of Markham, and two brothers, Russell and Jodie Frieze.

Funeral services will be held from Walker-Matchett funeral home Saturday afternoon at 3 p. m. Burial in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Funeral services for Gevonna C. Frnka, 54, of Bay City will be 11 am Thursday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Welch officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 6 to 8 pm today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Frnka was born May 16, 1936, to Claud and Astrid Hansen Hickey in Danevang and died July 10, 1990, at Matagorda General Hospital.  She was a lifelong resident of Bay City and a member of the Methodist church.

She is survived by her husband, Leroy Frnka of Bay City; mother, Astrid Hickey of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Kevin Hensley of Edna; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rick Frnka of Lake Jackson and Randy and Michele Frnka of Sugarland; a brother, Weldon Hickey of Austin; and grandchildren, Jason Hensley of Edna and Alexandra Frnka of Sugar Land.

Pallbearers are Travis Roberson, Jr., J. P. Anderson, Robert “Bobby” Head, Jack Williams, John Keys and Bill Acuff.  Arrangements under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.
