Mrs. Roscoe Bolling - Mary Lula Ringer Gibson Bolling

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Lula Bolling Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock in the Palacios Funeral Home with her pastor, Rev. L. M. Greenhaw in charge, assisted by Rev. George F. Gillespie.

Mrs. Bolling was born in LaGrange, Ga., Jan. 7, 1877, and died at the local hospital Sept. 4, 1947, making her almost 71 years of age at the time of her passing.

She is survived by her husband, Roscoe Bolling, two sons, Marvin and Burton Gibson, of Houston, three sisters, Mrs. Neal Burton, Mrs. Maude Gray, and Mrs. Pearl McDonald and four brothers, Charles Ringer, W. L. Ringer, Ed Ringer and Claude Ringer.

Mary Lula Bolling has passed on to her heavenly home and she leaves many friends and neighbors who will miss her gentle presence.

She was the mother of three sons, who were very small when her first husband died and she cheerfully, with grace carried on at the head of the home, instilling in their lives the finest Christian virtues, and when her eldest son, Arthur, died several years ago she met this sorrow with her usual Christian fortitude.

She always lived quietly except for her church activities devoting most of her time to her family.

After her marriage to Mr. Bolling most of her time was spent caring for her home on the bay near Palacios.

About five years ago Mrs. Bolling had the misfortune of losing both her eyes and her last years were spent in darkness with a large measure of pain as her companion, yet with all she usually managed to find courage and fun as she went along. Visits with her were always pleasant and gay.

One of her greatest joys, she found in her tall manly sons, Marvin and Burton, who came with their wives to see her often, repaying her early sacrifices for them with a full measure of kindness and devotion.

Death has been a release from her pain and darkness and we shall miss her, but along with our sorrow is the shining happiness that she so well knew, "there is no night there" and our grief turns to a sense of fulfillment.--Contributed.

Mrs. H. C. Boyd – Anna Cora Hunter Boyd

Mrs. H. C. Boyd, formerly Anna Cora Hunter, was born in Mason, Texas, September 11, 1875, the daughter and seventh child in a family of ten children of Major and Mrs. James M. Hunter. She knew well early pioneer life in West Texas as her father was a Major in the U. S. Army and active with Ranger forces in clearing Indian raids from the country.

While she was still a young girl, her father moved his family to the Edwards Plateau country where he engaged in ranching along the Nueces River. After the death of her mother at the old ranch home near Vance, Texas, the family moved into Rocksprings, where her father was District Judge and organized much of the new country into counties and established courts of justice.

It was here that former Vice-President Garner was a friend of the family and experienced some of his early practice as a young lawyer in Judge Hunter’s court.

She later returned to Mason to finish her schooling and made her home with her oldest sister, Mrs. Erv Hamilton and family, who were among the early ranching families of Mason County. In 1894 she was married to Mr. H. C. Boyd, who had come to Mason from Austin, Texas, and was engaged in jewelry business there.

They made their home in Mason for a number of years, where their only two children were born, a son—Erv Hamilton, and a daughter—Nora May.

In 1914 Mr. and Mrs. Boyd and children moved to Palacios for Mrs. Boyd’s health. Here she found relief from severe headaches, and was ever after devoted to her home near the bay and the coastal climate.

Mr. Boyd preceded her from this life in 1930 and she had since then maintained her home alone. She visited often with her children in their homes away from here, but was always so happy to return to her own comfortable home and friends in Palacios.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and devoted to her faith, also a faithful member and former president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was active in the Garden Club while she was able to be, and enjoyed its wholesome activities. She was a loyal and long time member of The Royal Neighbors Camp, whose small, but devoted membership were among her closest friends.

She had been in Hallettsville, Texas, for several weeks with her daughter, and had gone home with her grandson, D. C. DuBois of Refugio for a week-end visit, feeling quite well at the time, when the end came suddenly.

She is survived by her two children, Dr. E. H. Boyd of Wharton, Mrs. Farley Turk of Hallettsville, and four grandchildren, Dr. Craig H. Boyd of the U. S. Navy, D. C. DuBois of Refugio, Farley Boyd Turk of Victoria College, and Lumie Hunter Turk of Hallettsville, and a great-grandson, David Charles DuBois of Refugio.

Consoling funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Earl Price, assisted by Rev. John Elders of the Wharton Presbyterian Church, at the Palacios Funeral Home. Her favorite hymns were softly and sweetly given by friends of her church, and amid a profusion of beautiful flowers from loved ones and sympathizing friends she was tenderly laid to rest in the family cemetery lot beside her husband and infant granddaughter, gone on some years before.

Mrs. Anna M. Boyd

Mrs. Anna M. Boyd died suddenly at her home in this city, Tuesday, April 15th. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. G. F. Gillespie, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Palacios cemetery.

Anna M. Boyd, nee Lindsey, was born July 7, 1858, in Philadelphia, Pa. In Kassuth, Iowa, March 31, 1881, she was married to Robert J. Boyd, who preceded her in death, July 5, 1920. To this union were born five children, namely W. O. Boyd, of Owensville, Mo., Mrs. G. B. Murry, also of Owensville, Mo.; W. D. Boyd and Mrs. B. F. Morish, of this city, and Chas. T. Boyd, of Dallas, who, with fourteen grandchildren, survive her.

The deceased had made her home in Palacios a number of years and had formed a large circle of friends.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, faithful in attendance of all services, ever willing to do her share of labor in the Master's vineyard.

She was a devoted mother, true friend and neighbor and her passing on leaves a vacancy in the home never to be filled.

We join the many friends of the bereaved ones in extending sincere sympathy.
