Death of Mr. Charlie Britton

Mr. Charlie Britton was born July 25, 1858, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Langford, near Carancahua April 5, 1921.

Mr. Britton was reared near Waco and married Nov. 22, 1885. Five sons and four daughters were born to this union who with the bereaved wife survive him.

He was converted in early youth and united with the Methodist church, living a consecrated Christian life. Interment in Palacios cemetery with Rev. H. A. Echols officiating.

Ora Kirk Brumbelow

Funeral services for Ora Kirk Brumbelow, 81, were held June 29, at 2 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ronnie Floyd officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery.

Brumbelow was born June 20, 1903 in Goliad, TX and died June 28, 1984 at Wagner General Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Rose Brumbelow of Palacios; one daughter, Gladys Clements of Houston; one son, Pat Brumbelow of San Antonio; and 5 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Hoyt Theus, Aaron Brister, Larry Fitch, C. P. Jinks, George Thigpen, and Cornel Prindle.

Betty Gonzales Buckley

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Gonzales Buckley were held at 10 a. m. Monday, July 5, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Brian Crookes officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Born August 26, 1901, in Eagle Pass, Texas, she was the daughter of Callafonia and Maximina Esquevel Gonzales. A resident of Palacios for 50 years, she lived at 513 Welch. She was dead on arrival at Wagner General Hospital Saturday, July 3, after suffering an apparent heart attack at her home.

She is survived by one daughter, Amie Wright of Palacios; three sons, Alex Buckley and Tony Buckley of Palacios and Felix McGraw of San Antonio; two sisters, Maria Gonzales Castillo and Gloria Gonzales Lozano; one brother, Charlie Gonzales; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Fred R. Buckley

Fred R. Buckley, of 513 Welch Street, died Saturday, August 24, in Wagner General Hospital. Rosary was recited at 8 p. m. Sunday in the Palacios Funeral Home and Requiem Mass was held at 10:30 a. m. Monday in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Harrold officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

A rice farmer, he had been a resident of Palacios for the past 20 years. A son of Charles and Bell Elizabeth McGraw Buckley, he was born in San Antonio on August 8, 1908.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Amie Wright; sons, Alex and Tony Buckley, all of Palacios; foster sons, J. F. Eilbeck of Palacios, Felix McGraw of San Antonio; sisters, Doris Davis of West Columbia, Mary Lindsey and Pearl Baird of El Paso, Beulah Nichelson and Ada Fielding of San Antonio; brothers, Albert, Henry and Richard Buckley; half-brothers, Frank and Will Kinley, all of San Antonio; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Death of Mrs. Buckley – Lottie M. Thompson Buckley

Mrs. William Buckley died suddenly at their home on the Bussell ranch, two miles from Carancahua, about six o’clock Sunday morning, March 30.

The family came here from Paw Paw, Mich., for her health, Jan. 6, 1912.

She leaves her husband, a son and young daughter. Funeral services were held Monday, March 31, followed by interment at Palacios cemetery.

[Note: Mrs. Buckley was the daughter of Bela Dewey Thompson and Charlotte Olivia Sutton Thompson. She married William H. Buckley on October 18, 1883 in Paw Paw, Van Buren County, Michigan.

After Mrs. Buckley’s death, her family returned home to Michigan where Mr. Buckley remarried in 1915.]
 


Mary P. Buckley

Funeral services for Mary P. Buckley, 75, of Palacios, were held Sunday, July 5, 1992 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment followed at the Palacios Cemetery. Rosary was held Saturday at the Palacios Funeral Home.

Mrs. Buckley was born Feb. 25, 1917 in Edna to Barbarito Garcia and Manuel Perez and died July 2, 1992 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a resident of Palacios for the past 50 years.

Survivors include her husband, Alex Buckley of Palacios; two sons, Bobby and Darrell Buckley, both of Palacios; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John Sanchez, Tino Torrez, John Pena, Gilbert Lucio, Tony Tardo and Alex Perez.

Rachel H. Buckley

Funeral services for Rachel H. Buckley, 57, of Bay City will be held at 2 p. m. Friday, September 17, 1999 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with Rev. Charles Dwomah officiating.

The rosary was to be held at 7 p. m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will have private interment services.

Buckley died Tuesday, September 14, 1999. She was born January 6, 1942 in Palacios, Tex. to Fredrico Hernandez and Genoveva Samora Hernandez.

She was a former long-time resident of Palacios, and a former member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. She was a resident of Bay City for the past 30 years, a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was employed as a PBX Operator for Matagorda General Hospital.

She is survived by: son, Alfred R. Buckley of Bay City; mother, Genoveva Hernandez of Bay City; fiancé Robert Diaz of Bay City; three sisters, Julia Martinez of Freeport; Virginia Zarate of Bay City and Emeralda Melgar of Palacios; and two grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by father, Fredrico Hernandez and sister, Cindy Hernandez.

Arrangements are with Palacios Funeral Home.

Tony Gonzales Buckley

A Funeral Mass for Tony Gonzales Buckley, 78, of Palacios was held Aug. 9, 2000 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Charles Dwomoh officiating. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery.

On Jan. 14, 1922 in San Antonio, Texas the Lord blessed our family with the birth of Tony Gonzales Buckley. He was born to the late Fred and Seferina Gonzales Buckley. He became a life time resident of Palacios. He was reunited with his parents in Heaven on Aug. 4, 2000.

He is survived by his loving companion and wife, Pauline Ruiz Buckley. Together they nurtured nine children, 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by: sons and daughters-in-law—Joe and Pete of Palacios; Fred and his wife, Dana, and their four beautiful children also of Palacios; and Tony Patrick and his wife, Robin, who live in Nevada with their five beautiful children; his daughters and sons-in-law—Delia and Jimmy Rodriguez and their lovely two children of Houston; Romona and Robert Sisco and their blessings of three children and two grandchildren of Kentucky; Linda and Robert Killion of California; Betty and Robert Salter and their wonderful three children of Indiana; and Rosemary and Jack L. Pierce, II with their three precious angels of Washington state; his sister and brother-in-law Amie and Lester Wright of Palacios; his brother Alex of Palacios; and several nieces and nephews.

Tony was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, a life member of good standing with Queen-Hamlin V. F. W. Post 2467, and a member of The Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 1919.

Employed by Alcoa Aluminum for 31 years, he retired on Jan. 1, 1983. He worked in a variety of positions, some of which included civil maintenance and re-firing plants calcinations department. For the majority of his career with Alcoa he worked in the smelter utility and pots rooms.

With the many achievements Tony accomplished in life, his family is most proud of his military accomplishments. He was a veteran of WWII, serving as a Private First Class in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. He served as a rifleman and squad leader for twelve months in the 7th Armored Division in France, Belgium and Holland. He was extensively trained in the use of grenades, machine gunnery, camouflaging and firing at the enemy.

As a member of the 1550 Service Support Unit, he was wounded in action in Holland on Oct. 4, 1944. After his recovery, he returned  to America and served as a prisoner of war guard at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was Honorably Discharged from the Army on Jan. 10, 1946. For his service to his country Tony was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in action, the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with one bronze service star, the American Theater Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Tony Gonzales Buckley has been a protector of the peace, a loving husband, a dedicated father and grandfather, but most of all he has been a wonderful human being. The family will eternally miss him, and will cherish him always.

Pallbearers included: Fred, Tony, Pete, Joe and Cory Buckley, Fred Buckley, Jr., Christopher Pierce and Jack L. Pierce II.

Hugh Franklin Buffaloe

Funeral services for Hugh Franklin Buffaloe were held at 2 p. m. Thursday March 27, at the First United Methodist Church of Palacios with the Rev. Mr. J. Sidney Gervais officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Son of Frank and Mary Lowe Buffaloe, he was born in Palacios on January 5, 1927. A graduate of Palacios High School, he resided here until a few years ago when he moved to Madisonville to manage the Joe A. McDermott Ranch.

He passed away Monday night, March 24, in Hermann Hospital in Houston where he was transferred after he accidentally shot himself while cleaning a gun at his home the first week of March.

He is survived by his wife, Carolin Buffaloe of Madisonville; his parents, of Palacios; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Anna William of Las Cruses, New Mexico and Carol Buffaloe; two sons, Henry and Tommy Buffaloe, all of Madisonville; two sisters, Mrs. Opal and Lee Zunker of San Antonio and Mrs. Joy Faye Lowak of Corpus Christi.

Mary Anna Buffaloe

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Anna Buffaloe were held at the Church of God of Prophecy Thursday afternoon, September 11, at 3 o’clock with the Rev. Bobby Madison officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hebel, she was born September 5, 1879, in Medford, Wisconsin. A resident of Palacios for 53 years, she died September 10, 1969 in Freeport.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Cholorene Murray, Mrs. Bessie Countryman of Lake Jackson, Mrs. Elizabeth Dickey of Freeport and Mrs. Dorothy Carson of Angleton; two sons, Edd Buffaloe of Bay City and Fran Buffaloe of Palacios; 25 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth Buffaloe

Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Buffaloe, 89, were held at 11:30 a. m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1995 at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Palacios with Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery.

Mrs. Buffaloe died Feb. 18, 1995 in New Braunfels, Tex.

She is survived by two daughters, Opal Zunker of Bulverde, Tex. and Joy Faye Lowak of Corpus Christi, Tex.; two sisters, Minnie Reaves of Pasadena and Ann Harr of Houston; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Hugh Buffaloe.

Rufus Franklin Buffaloe, Jr.

Funeral services for Frank Buffalo, Jr., 83, were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel April 22, 1986 at 11:30 a. m  Rev. Larry Matula officiated. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery.

Buffaloe, a lifelong resident of Palacios, was born July 9, 1902 in Koffman [Kaufman], Co., Texas and died April 20, 1986 in Corpus Christi. He was the son of Rufus F. and Mary Ann Hebel Buffaloe.

Survivors include daughters Joy F. Lowak of Corpus Christi and Opal L. Zunker of San Antonio; sisters, Babe Murray, Bessie Countryman, and Dorothy Carson, all of Lake Jackson; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Hugh Franklin Buffaloe.

Grandsons were pallbearers.

Rufus F. Buffaloe, Sr. Buried Here Saturday

Funeral services for Rufus Franklin Buffaloe, Sr., were held 3:30 Saturday afternoon with Rev. N. F. Dunning ad Rev. E. G. Sullivan conducting the last rites.

Mr. Buffaloe, born May 14, 1867 in Vaden, Miss., the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Buffaloe, had been a resident of Palacios for 40 years. He died at 11:35 a. m. July 19 at the Bay View General Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Buffaloe of Palacios; four daughters, Mrs. Chollorene Murray, Velasco; Mrs. Bessie Countryman, Palacios; Mrs. Elizabeth Dickey, Freeport and Mrs. Dorothy Smith, Angleton; three sons, S. B. and Frank Buffaloe, Palacios; and W. E. Buffaloe, Markham, 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

William Edward Buffaloe

Funeral services for William Edward Buffaloe of Bay City were held at 1 p. m. Thursday, March 22, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel with Reverends H. D. Fleetwood and Edd Webster officiating. Graveside services were held at 3 p. m. in the Palacios Cemetery.

A former resident of Palacios, he was born June 21, 1898 in McLendon and moved to Matagorda County in 1916. He was a farmer and cattleman before his retirement. He died Tuesday, March 20, in Matagorda General Hospital.

He is survived by four daughters, Merdell Bacheller of Houma, La., Lanita Skalicky of Ganado, Suzie Brannon of Bay City and Pat Buffaloe of Silsbee; eight sons, Gene Buffaloe of Victoria, Glenn Buffaloe of Houston, Jack Buffaloe of Corpus Christi, Ken Buffaloe of Louisville, Ky. and T. J., Mike, Donnie and Todd Buffaloe, all of Bay City; four sisters, Cholorene Murry, Mary Elizabeth Dickey and Bessie May Countryman, all of Lake Jackson, and Dorothy Lee Carson of Angleton; one brother, Frank Buffaloe of Palacios; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Maria Tu Thi Bui

Funeral services for Maria Tu Thi Bui, 78, will be held Today (Thursday) at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Pham Chec Trinh officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery. A rosary was recited Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Bui was born Dec. 31, 1907 in Bue Chu, Vietnam and died August 12, 1986 at Wagner General Hospital.

She is survived by three daughters, Cuc Thi Nguyen of Palacios, Hoa Thi Nguyen of Palacios and Huc Thi Nguyen of New Orleans; one son, Lai Van Nguyen of Palacios; one sister, Tuc Thi Nguyen of New Orleans; 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Clarence Buller

Funeral services for Clarence Buller, 75, were held Aug. 29 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City with Dr. W. D. Baker officiating.

Buller was born May 27, 1906 in Sealy and died at Matagorda General Hospital Aug. 26. He was a retired farmer and a former resident of Palacios since 1952. He was the son of Louis Buller and Lena Pless Buller.

Survivors include his wife Jessie Parsutt Buller; daughters, Jackie Ann Hatchell and Carolyn Hiler of San Diego; sister, Elnora McDaniel of Freeport; brother, Wesley Buller of Humble; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jessie Buller

Jan 12, 1909 – May 25, 2005

Jessie Buller was born January 12, 1909 to Thomas and Eva Parsutt in Palacios, Texas and passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2005.

She is survived by: daughter, Carolyn Buller Hiler; one brother, Steve Parsutt of Matagorda, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Buller, in 1981.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday, May 29, 2005 at the Palacios Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Blair officiating. Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery.

G. C. Burchard

G. C. Burchard died at the home of his brother, Rev. Burchard at Laward, July 8, aged 50 years, 10 months and 6 days. The remains were prepared for burial by the Duffy Undertaking Co., and interment made in the Palacios Cemetery under their direction Thursday, July 11. The deceased had just recently come from Arizona for a visit with his brother and family.

Joseph Burdick

Funeral services for Joseph Burdick were held in the Palacios Funeral Home Friday, March 4, at 10:00 a. m. conducted by Rev. L. M. Greenhaw. Burial was made in the Palacios cemetery.

Mr. Burdick, a native of Czechoslovakia, was born March 15, 1889, and died at his home in this city March 2, 1949.

Survivors include his wife and four children, two sons, Charles and Freddie of Palacios, two daughters, Mrs. Maurice Kelly of Palacios and Mrs. Lloyd Shepherd of El Campo.

In early life he joined the Lutheran Church. He had been a resident of Palacios for several years and the family has the sympathy of a host of friends.

H. N. Burditt Buried Here Friday
.

H. N. Burditt, 80, retired farmer of La Ward, died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. R. Forest in Houston. The remains were brought here Friday and funeral services held in the cemetery at 4 p. m. conducted by Rev. T. B. Ramsey, of La Ward.

Mr. Burditt was a native of Austin but moved to Jackson County 43 years ago to make his home. He was well known throughout the community and had served as school trustee and other positions of trust.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. W. R. Forest of Houston and Mrs. H. K. Hayes, of La Ward and one son, Allen Burditt of La Ward; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mrs. H. N. Burditt – Nettie Lila Burditt

Mrs. Nettie Lila Burditt, wife of H. N. Burditt, died at the family residence at La Ward, Texas, Wednesday, March 21, at 2 p. m. age 69 years and 1 month. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. W. R. Forest, of Houston, and Mrs. H. K. Hayes, of La Ward and one son, A. L. Burditt, of La Ward. Also one sister, Mrs. Florence Hill, of Lockhart, Texas, and one twin brother, G. L. Ellison of Lockhart, Texas, two granddaughters Mrs. Robert Fridge, of Refugio, and Miss Carolin Burditt, La Ward, and four grandsons, Robert Forest, Houston; Herman and Ralph Hayes and Allen Newton Burditt, of La Ward.

Funeral services were held at the home Thursday at one o’clock and burial was made in the Palacios Cemetery under the direction of the Palacios Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were A. J. Stayton, T. N. Dahlstrom, P. C. Rothwell, T. L. Shannon, J. J. Hunt and W. J. Sears.
